Chapter 14

Kris POV Arriving in the office at 8:30 AM to get some work done before Kane picks me up, I see that Andrew is waiting in the lobby with a series of flower bouquets around Jenny's desk. Damn it. Will this guy ever give it up? "Andrew." I acknowledge him but make my way quickly into my office, or try to. He grabs hard at my wrist, causing me to almost wince out in pain, but I refuse to let him have that luxury. "Andrew." Mateo warns him and makes Andrew take his hand off of me. "I already said no yesterday Andrew." I remind him of our little conversation when I was at Kane's. It was truly embarrassing and offensive, but I was going to drop it for today since I have to meet up with the kids. "I think you should reconsider Kris. This isn't a case you can win." I shake my head at him with rage. How he can offer such a deal is beyond me. "It's also illegal, Andrew." I snark back at him. Again, I try to head into my office and this time I make it with the help of Mateo combating against him. When I get in the office, I respond back to some emails and grab my tote to get ready to go when Kane tells me he is here. Walking out, I see that Andrew hasn't left yet and is instead arguing with Mateo. Seriously? Why the hell does he want me so much for anyway? Shaking my head, I try to walk around the commotion as I am sure Andrew will leave once I do, but no such luck. Again, he grabs hard at my wrist. "It will kill two birds with one stone and you know it." "Are you that scared that I am going to beat you?" I grit down as push him off and yank my arm free. "Oh, please. Drop the act, Kris. I have known you for a long time and I know all of your tricks." I scoff at him and again try to get out of here, not intent on keeping Kane waiting too long. Andrew steps in front of me and blocks my way. "Seriously, Andrew. What is it that you want? I will never be interested in you. Get that through your thick skull." I get harsh with him as I hit him with a reality check. That frat boy routine might work with other women, but it definitely doesn't impress me in the slightest. "Always so prideful. I wonder if Ethan knows you're whoring yourself out to Kane Bishops." Without even thinking about it, I smack him hard across the face. s**t, that hurt my hand. Behind Andrew, I see that Kane has walked through the door. f**k, how long has he been there? Ignoring that, I walk past Andrew and grab Kane to leave the office. We both hop into the car quickly and make our way to Santa Monca Beach. The whole way there, the car ride is intense. "Anything I should know about?" His low raspy voice brings me peace of mind. I lick my lips and then breathe out a shallow breath that I have been holding since I hit Andrew. It was unprofessional, I know, but he crossed f*****g line. "No." "No bullshit, Kris." He states calmly as he gets off of the highway. Thankfully, the traffic wasn't too terrible and we are still a couple minutes early. "I know Andrew is Nora's lawyer and I don't think it's a coincidence that he was there this morning." I breathe out again and I close my eyes. He's right. We have an agreement. "They are offering a $10 million settlement, giving you full custody." "Sounds too good to be true." At least he is smart enough to know when a deal is too good to be true. "What is it?" "And Andrew gets to have me for one night." I give him the PG version of what Andrew described he wanted to do to me, but Kane catches my uncomfortableness even having this talk to him. "To do what?" He pushes further, spitting those venomous words out. "Anything he wants, essentially." Sick of this conversation, I get out of the car to meet up with Nora. Kane slams his door and walks over to my side. "It's illegal. If anyone were to find out about this, your reputation would be ruined." I tell him as he might want to take up on that offer since it doesn't really effect him, just me. "You think that's what I care about?" His chest is right in front of me, but I look away to see that Nora and the twins are at the spot that we said we would meet at. Again, the twins are wearing layered clothing on this hot day. "They're here." I gesture to the kids and we start walking in that direction. "So, I guess you're not taking up on our offer." Nora snickers at me and I hold my tongue. Anything I say out of turn could cause more drama and this case is practically filled to the brim with it. "No, she's not." Kane answers for me. "She's not for sale." My heart skips a beat with his harsh tone towards his ex. "Unlike you." "Well, at least I am not a tease." Nora retorts back and then pushes the kids into our direction before taking off. I breathe out and look up at Kane, but he doesn't look at me. "Kris! Kris!" Mason captures my attention and I look down to see his cheerful eyes peering right up at me. Smiling immediately, I bend down to ruffle his hair. "Let's get you guys out of these layers and head to the beach." They start jumping up and down and drag our hands down to the beach. Another hour or so later, the boys are playing with the waves and jumping back while Kane and I walk along the beach. My hair is curled wavy down to be breast. I have a pair of dark blue jeans and a white tank top on. Holding onto my flip flops, I balance myself the best I can while walking on the hot sand. Kane has on light blue Hawaiian shirt with white shorts and holding onto his sandals. Staying close enough to the ocean to see the boys, we are far enough that they can't hear our conversation. "Thank you for what you said to Nora." He grunts an acknowledgement. "You should have told me." Kane's right. This is his case and I let my personal feelings about Andrew get in the way of that. "No lies, right?" "Yeah..?" I give him a quizzical look before he asks me his questions. "If you are married, then why does Andrew hit on you like you're not?" Oh. "It's complicated." I admit to him. "You mean as complicated as having twins you never knew about with an ex-girlfriend that you despise." We laugh a little bit and I nod. Okay, maybe my situation isn't nearly as complicated as his. "Regardless, Andrew just won't take no for an answer." Thinking about this now, I am curious to what Nora said earlier to us. Pulling out my phone, I text my PI to find some information for me. Kane looks at me curiously as I do this. "If he gives you any more problems, especially about this, let me know." I smile at him and nod. "I don't think we will have a problem after we win this case." "Do you think my chances are good?" Kane sneaks a peek at the kids to see that they have stopped playing in the waves and have decided to collect seashells. "To tell you the truth," I hesitate to say more because I don't want to get his hopes up. "yes." "But?" "That doesn't mean we should slow down anything that we are doing. I don't want us to let our guard down." He nods in my direction before picking up Asher and swinging him around. Squealing with pure joy, Asher giggles out as Mason gets his turn. Kane's defined muscles ripple as he picks them up, showing his bulging muscles to those at the beach. I can tell I am not the only one impressed. "Husband?" A skinny blonde girl comes up and asks me. I turn to see that she is gorgeous with her tan skin and perfectly done hair. She is wearing a nice bikini that accents her body. "No." I turn back to see Kane lifting both of the boys, one in each arm, as they rush into the ocean. Even without looking in her direction, I can tell she is smirking. Not wanting to get involved, I walk away from her to see that she goes up to Kane as he drops the twins. The twins rush towards me. I am not sure what Kane and her interaction is, but she seems annoyed to say the least. "How about some ice cream?" I turn to the boys who nod profusely at the idea. Kane is quick to join us and I catch him up. "What happened to the girl?" I whisper to him as I see her pointing at Kane from afar with her friends. "Nothing." That girl and her friend group start coming towards us. "It doesn't look like nothing." I point with my chin at the group incoming and Kane groans out a bit. "Take the kids to the ice cream cart, I will handle it." "Are you sure?" I push them towards the ice cream cart as I wait for the girl to come to me. "Can I help you?" I offer the blonde as she looks at me with a disgusted look. "No." Her other blonde friend says with venom in her voice. "We just want to talk to him." Kane. "And why is that?" "Because I refuse to believe that he could take a look at me and not be interested." The first blonde girl looks at me up and down. "And who are you? His girlfriend?" Though I am a bit caught off guard, I hold my composure. "If you thought I was his girlfriend, why would you be interested in what is mine?" I snark back at her and her face is distorted. One of her other friends comes up to the front so now I am facing three of them. This time all three of them look me up and down. I scoff, but before I get a chance to reply to them, we hear a cough that takes away our attention. "Babe, let's go. The kids are hungry." I see that they have already finished their ice cream. Yikes, I hope that didn't ruin their lunch. Grabbing our things, I head towards Kane, but the blonde girl yanks me away. "You said he wasn't your husband." She grits through her teeth. Kane yet again beats me before I can say anything back. "Babe, you got to stop telling people that." Kane grabs my other hand and drags me alongside him across the beach to a restaurant. "Thanks." I tell him when we make it to the host's stand, waiting to be seated. "They were never going to leave you alone." He shakes his head at this as we get seated promptly. "What do you mean?" Not saying anymore, we order our meals and have a peaceful meal or sorts. Though most of the time we just try to get to know more about Asher and Mason, there's this sense of easiness in the air. Before we know it, Nora and Andrew come to pick Asher and Mason up from the designated drop off location.Though it is 2 PM at the end of July, we had to put on Asher and Mason's layers. I have to end this and end it soon. "Kris." Andrew's revolting voice addresses me as I just nod to him. When the exchange is over, Kane and I get back into the car and he slams his hands against the top of the steering wheel. Jumping up in surprise, he looks over to me with an apologetic face. "Sorry." I have a feeling this isn't normal for him, but I suppose people just react differently to these types of situations. "What's the next step?" He is quick to ask through his teeth as I have already set the next steps in motion. "It's already done." Turning my phone around, I show him the news. Nora's s*x tape with his brothers are blasted through the major media. Since it was taken roughly around the same time, it should garner him some positive media feedback. "You're going to make a statement about why this is the reason it didn't work out with you and Nora. You have to play the victim. She broke your heart and you lost contact, you never knew about your children. If you had known, you would have been there every step of the way. Now, you want to be there."
