Kiery POV
I can’t believe Asher approves of Kimmy and I being mated to each other. She’s like a little sister to me and I am four years older than her. Age gaps are not unusual among werewolves. I am surprised that the Moon Goddess revealed our bond early. I am not supposed to scent her until her 17th birthday. The Moon Goddess said that our bond and union would help in keeping our pack and Luna safe.
I have a mate! We’ll have to wait a few weeks for her birthday, but I will make sure my mate has the best day ever. To know Kimberly Layne is to love her. A fierce fighter, considerate, caring, with a little sassiness to bring it all together.
Kimmy and I were the last to enter Asher’s office. There is a lot to unpack about what just happened in the Luna’s quarters. Luna Aniyah doesn’t have a wolf and, with a war coming, this may be the reason that the Moon Goddess wants us to protect her.
Some of us grab a seat and some stand around due to the limited space. Asher takes his seat behind his desk and pours himself a shot of tequila, I guess it’s going to be one of those nights. After we take a round of shots, Asher and Mary fill us in on what happened before we all made it to Luna Aniyah’s room.
Asher POV
“Anyone have any ideas about what this may mean?” I questioned my friends. Everyone in this room is not just packmates, they are my family as well. Kiery and Leo look like they are deep in thought which is to be expected from them.
“OK, we can start with the separate messages we received from the Moon Goddess and move forward with our thoughts.” Mary chimed in, looking around the room at us.
“I was told that my bond with Kimmy would keep our pack and Luna safe. We are to mate and mark each other in private with only close family members present.” Kiery’s face holds a look of fear and confusion. I hope he doesn’t think that I am upset about his union with my sister. Out of everyone in the world, I feel like he is the perfect mate for her. We’ve known each other all of our lives and she’s an alpha female, which would be great for their children.
“I got the same message; I was also told not to trust any lies that come my way although they may seem accurate and not to broadcast any discrepancies because they can be used for our benefit.” Kimmy added on to the information that Kiery provided.
“The moon goddess told me to train the Luna so that she is prepared for battle because this war will not be easy.” Gamma Stephanie relayed her message.
“I am to support Stephanie in her training and provide protection to the Luna. I was also told that the times she requires me to not protect her are the times that she will need me the most.” Gamma Leo added.
“Alpha, I am to remain by your side and keep a close eye on your surroundings. Everything is not as it may seem, and I must help you make the right decision, or you will lose everything.” Mary almost appeared frightened to tell me. Although I won’t admit it, Mary has saved me plenty of times from making decisions that could’ve led to my downfall.
Gabriella looked at me with a doubtful expression. “Alpha, I am to teach the Luna medical practices and fighting skills for close combat. I cannot take it easy on the Luna.”
Lastly, Danny steps up, “I am to be a shadow walker for Luna Aniyah. She does not know that I am following her. This will allow us a heads up if I see anything that doesn’t look right.”
I ponder over what everyone has said, and I realize that the Moon Goddess has unionized us as personal guards for Aniyah. She must’ve known that my Luna was the weakest of them all.
“Without the Moon Goddess we wouldn’t be here, we will follow her words and wisely prepare ourselves and the pack for war. Ahhhh!” My shoulder blade began to burn horribly. I rip my shirt off as Kiery runs to my side, he stops with a gasp that catches everyone’s attention.
“What is it, Kiery?!” I grunted out my question through the pain.
“You have been blessed by the Moon Goddess. I have never seen this before. I don’t know what this means.” I can’t believe Kiery is at a loss for words.
Kimmy takes her phone out and snaps a picture, handing me her phone with a smile. On the screen it shows a silver crown glowing on my shoulder blade.
