:// Prologue //:
Ariana hastily performed the spell of Prediction. The winds surrounded her, howling an ominous warning. She didn't have much time left before the time of Purity passed; the time when the light was cool against the Earth’s surface.
Which translates to: it's the only time Ariana could perform this spell, and she’s been procrastinating for weeks. Today was the Witch’s last chance.
She glanced at her sundial. Five minutes left.
"Goddess, why did my stupid freakin’ alarm clock have to break?" She grumbled to herself as she poured different powders and elixirs into a small metal bowl…only she didn’t say ‘freakin’. "They'll have my head for this, I swear." She complained, but she knew it was her fault. She’s the one who broke the clock when the alarm sounded yesterday. Not a morning person.
Finally, white smoke began to rise from the bowl. Little sparks that reminded Ariana of dandelion seeds tickled the air. She couldn't help but smile. She actually did it! Three minutes left.
She took her seat and cleared off the area around her. She really didn't want to accidentally poison herself when she was in the vision, like she did last time. That was really embarrassing.
Suddenly, the white smoke surrounded her head, but it was okay. She was ready now.
Everything around her started to fade out as the vision came to her. “I want to see soul the matches Theodore's”. She repeated that phrase over and over again, a sweet vanilla filling her nose with a fog in her mind. It wasn’t long before her eyesight started to swirl into a different picture.
This spell, the spell of Prediction, could help a Magical see a simple piece of something yet to come. Like a flash of a face, a name, or even a date. It wasn't as far as predicting the future, but it was still helpful. And since Ariana’s sister and nephew have been dying for an answer for weeks now, it'd be extremely helpful. After all, if she didn't have something before tomorrow's Summer Solstice, then the poor boy would be blind at the ceremony. He'd have no idea who the lucky girl would be.
After a moment, a picture began to form. “Odd,” the Witch thought to herself, “normally it usually takes much longer than that, and since when is the image so clear...?”
She could see the Corvinus Mansion standing proud in the distance. A beautiful structure, the Federal-Colonial build home like a palace, with splashes of Victorian decor radiating an intimidating class. Within moments she was inside, but not in the living quarters. Strangely, she was in the cellar, where someone sat huddled on the ground.
A thin stream of light erupted into the dank space as someone else came down the stairs. Coppery blond hair sat sharp upon his head with a pair fierce green eyes aged beyond their years.
It was obviously Theodore, Ariana's only nephew, but the other was a stranger.
Inky black hair almost covered his eyes, but the piercing silver of his eyes was unmistakable. How cold they seemed, for a Human, even as they spiked with fear.
“Wait, Human?” The Witch could barely tell within the hazy vision, but his lack of aura made his species clear. Though she didn't dwell on the thought for long.
Theodore reached out to help the stranger with a face Ariana did not recognize. “Is he...concerned for a him? A mere Human?”
A bright flash barreled into the room followed by a collage of confusing pictures. They came and went fast: the boys walking the grounds, laughing, arguing, and finally...
Kissing. Theodore was kissing not only another male, but a Human.
The vision ended, and the time of Purity had passed, and Ariana had her answer.
Theodore's soulmate was a man.
