7 Kaiya knelt, holding a road tile in her hand. Her shift was almost over and she had filled barely a fifth of her quota. She stared at the road tile, moving it this way and that to see her glum reflection at different angles. Nearby, a holoboard scrolled through advertisements. Her shift had played out to the cycle of the holoboard, and she knew her few moments of relief would arrive soon. When they did, she stared up, drinking in the unsatisfying faux-fulfilment of another Rapture advertisement. She had gone to the clinic, begged them for more, but a week had not passed. They had left her stranded in an ocean of pointlessness, her existence slowly fading into the road tiles for which she no longer cared.
