Chapter 1

Madeline stood in front of the throne inside the huge hall of Royal Redbull Park Castle. It was dark outside but darker inside the castle. Her gaze was set upon her father, Alpha Jaxon who was seated on his throne, his body already weak.

Alpha Jaxon was one of the longest living werewolves and was a very powerful one too. Currently, he is the ghost of what he said to be, having lived more than a thousand years.

“You wanted to see me father.” Rose said bowing her head in respect.

“Madeline, my dear. I can feel it now. It's coming.”

With his shaky hands in hers, Madeline stood beside her father, confusion written all over her face. “Dad, what's coming?”

“Madeline, my dear. It's time for me to leave this world. My time has come finally after years of living for centuries.”

Tears welled up in Madeline's eyes as she listened to her father talk. “Father.. don't…”

“This isn't something we can change so easily.” Alpha Jaxon continued, his voice growing weaker and weaker. “You are truly the light in my life and it was only after you were born that I truly started living.”

Alpha Jaxon started coughing vigorously until blood came out of his mouth.

“Alpha Jaxon. Let us help you.” Reed offered. He had just entered minutes ago after he heard that the King sent for his mate, Madeline.

He was Madeline's fiance and was going to be made the heir after he marries her.

But Jaxon didn't let him do anything, instead he waved him off with trembling hands. “I'm fine, Kai. This is something that I must do.” He responded, rising from the throne.

“Father, no. You should sit.” Madeline was almost pleading but Jaxon never really listened to anyone except himself. His cough grew worse and it destroyed Madeline's heart to watch her old father. She had always known that it was her duty to be the leader of the Royal red Park and she had prepared herself for it or so she thought.

The part she could never get herself to prepare for, was the part where she had to have this conversation with her father. No amount of preparation was enough for this torture.

“Father, you need to save your energy so please sit down..” Madeline smiled sadly.

“Madeline, it's now your turn to take the throne. I have done everything I can do, now the throne belongs to you. I know you are ready, Madeline.”

Madeline tried not to shed tears in this situation. Her father had always taught her to be strong so crying in this situation was a bad idea. “I don't think I can do it. My mind isn't prepared for the trials I'll face.”

“They are all challenges of life, my dear.” Jaxon said, filled with confidence that he had trained his child so well. He had always known that she would one day succeed him. Madeline, herself knew too. She had braced herself, all her life for this single quest.

“I'm so grateful that you are my daughter. I know that you are ready.” Jaxon was already standing, his hand on her shoulder, his touch unsteady. “You'll lead this great Park as the Alpha, after all, you are my blood.”

Rose still couldn't explain the emotions she felt. She knew what this meant. When an Alpha dies naturally, the throne is passed down to their heir whether male or female. It was called the Alpha power. It had always been her dream to become the Alpha and now with the support of her mate and love, Beta Reed, she knew she would do a great job.

Madeline bowed her head, trying to stop the tears that were already threatening to fall. “Dad, I know that for years, we have talked about this.. you have prepared me for this.. but … I don't.. think I can do this.”

“But you have to, my child. You have to..” Jaxon approached her , limping. He touched her hair, then her face trying to console her.

Seeing her father in this condition, Madeline's heart broke. All her life, she had been raised to be a strong willed woman, to be the future of the Royal Redbull Park. She had always known that it would come to this but she was still not ready to lose her father, the only family she had.

Madeline let it all out, the tears, the emotions, she didn't care anymore, she just laid it all out. Jaxon gently wiped the tears out of her eyes. “Don't cry, my forever flower. You were born for this.” He smiled with a look of satisfaction.

Suddenly, just out of the blue, Madeline felt a warm liquid splatter across her face. She took a step backward only to realise in terror that it was blood, gushing out heavily from the Jaxon's chest.

“Kai! What the hell did you do? What?” She screamed in shock of what was happening.

Kai, her father's most trusted friend and Beta stood beside him, holding out his hand which was dripping in blood. Soon, Jaxon's body plopped to the ground.

“Oh. My God. What did you do? What did you do?” Madeline screamed. “Father?” She cried, on her knees

Kai, with a twisted grin on his face, let out a deep sigh. Then he began to laugh. It was a cold, cruel laugh, echoing through the hall.

“For so many centuries,” Kai started. “The Rogerhead family have served your father, from my First ancestor to myself.”

Madeline couldn't help herself anymore. “Why?” She screamed, her voice breaking. “Why would you do that to him? What did he ever do to you?”

“He deserved to die.” Kai said calmly, his hand filled with blood.

“My father ruled this Park as a kind, peaceful and fair king, what..”

“Fair?” Kai asked. “Jaxon was selfish and inconsiderate. For as many centuries he lived, he had so many mates but he couldn't get an heir from any of them.”

Alpha Jaxon had continuously, for centuries, looked for an heir to his throne but he was never successful. He lived for thousands of years and during those times he sought out so many priestess, witches, wizard in other to have a child.

His dream of having a heir was becoming useless until he met Madeline's Mother who made him the happiest man when they had Madeline.

Kai looked down at the weak Jaxon, his heart filled with hatred, then he turned to Madeline with a twisted expression.

“Madeline, your father was an egotist, he refused to give his Loyal Beta, the throne and he deserves to die a hundred times.”
