“Twenty years ago when I became the Beta, serving your father like a slave, I had only one intention in mind which was to be the Alpha. It was my only desire, my only reason I agreed to be the Beta after all and after a long while my dream was finally coming to pass but then you ruined it.”

Madeline cried her eyes out while still listening to Kai who looked down at her with deep rooted hatred. “You.. you ruined everything. The day you were born was the day I lost my birthright.” Beta Kai screamed at her. “A right which my lineage had earned with countless years of hard work and slavery for the King.” Kai's face darker, his voice shifting to a sad tone.

“You are a beast! A blood sucking beast! How could you do this? How?” Madeline's eyes were filled with fury and pain.

“You can call me whatever you want to call me, Madeline. I don't mind. I only did what I had to do. Your father is the heartless one. Instead of giving me my birthright which was Alpha power, instead he gave me a weak woman like you, Madeline.”

“I'm not weak!”

“It doesn't matter what you say, Madeline. I am the Alpha and there's nothing you can do about it.”

“Behind her, her father's cough grew worse and worse, he was now badly hurt and was bleeding from his chest. Madeline couldn't believe that he was still alive, as she rushed to his side, holding him in her arms.

“Father, please..”

“My dear Madeline,” Jaxon's hands trembled as Madeline took his hands in hers. You are the one that brought joy into my life. I can't believe that we've come this far..”

“I'm sorry that it has to be this way. You won't inherit my power, Madeline but you have to be strong in order to reclaim your power as the Alpha.”

Madeline's heart sank to her tummy immediately she heard this. Of course, she knew there were only two ways of becoming Alpha in the Royal blue Park: by inheritance or by forcefully taking it just like Beta Kai did.

“Get ready, my flower. It is going to be a rough ride but the spirit of your mother will help you.. you..” Jaxon said, taking his last breath.

“No, father. No! What are you saying? My mother? Who's she? Father? No!” Madeline couldn't stop crying. Her heart broke into different tiny pieces while Beta Kai smiled and laughed like a mad man.

“Finally, I can feel it. I can feel it, I feel the Alpha power coming over me.” He stretched out his hands like he was welcoming something in the air inside him.

Madeline sat there feeling totally tired, waiting to wake up from this terrible dream. Her father's body grew limp and cold in her arms.

“I am no longer the Beta but the Alpha. Yes! Yes!” He screamed in his loudest voice. “It's time to announce to the wolves of Royal Redbull Park that I am now their Alpha, they have to bow down to me.”

Madeline couldn't stand because all her strength had been taken away from her. Without even sparing her a look, Kai walked away. “I'll leave you to your despair, dear mate.” He said and walked away.

“Father, you don't deserve this death, I'll avenge you till I take my last breath.”

Thinking of how her father was murdered by a man he trusted and how she was betrayed, sparked up different emotions in her.

Anger

Pain

Heartbreak

Grief

“Stop there, you heartless monster!” Madeline didn't know where she got her energy from but she got up, went face to face with kai.

“You bastard. I, Alpha Madeline of the Royal blue park, reject you, Beta kai as my mate and…”

Kai burst out laughing like a man who was out of his mind. “I'm sorry Madeline but I can't just stop laughing.” And he didn't stop, he kept going till tears came out of his eyes, then that anger and despair filled his eyes again as he approached Madeline.

Kai smiled, reaching his hand out to her face. Madeline wouldn't be deceived by his touch when what she saw in his eyes was hatred.

“You, of all people, should know how to address your Alpha. I am your Alpha.” He twirled her brown hair with his index finger and repeated the exact words. “I am your Alpha.” Then he tugged at the hair curled up in his finger causing her to gasp in pain.

“Let me go, you beast!” Madeline didn't want to show weakness but she was in pain.

“Let her go!” A man appeared from nowhere. “Let her go.” His name was Derrick and was one of the Alpha's trusted men and one of the oldest in the park.

Kai turned to face him, interested in whatever he had to say, finally letting go of Madeline's hair. “Do you have anything to say?”

There were still at the hall but now, it was filled with dozens of people who had heard the news about the Alpha's death, some looked nervous while others remained silent watching everything that went on.

“You were his most trusted friend, how could you kill him? I refuse to follow a man who cannot be trusted. How can you be our Alpha? What power do you possess?”

He had barely finished talking before Kai disappeared and appeared in his presence. “I'll show you.”

Kai chuckled as he stretched out his hands to show a heart dripping in blood.

Derrick, felt a sharp pain in his chest, turned only to see a hole in his heart. He fell to the ground motionless.

“I do not need hopeless and weak men like you.” Kai replied, cleaning his blood filled hands on his victim's body. “No, any objections? Anyone have anything else to say?”

Everyone remained quiet and soon chants of “Hail the Alpha” filled the air. One by one, they knelt before Kai.

“No!” Madeline screamed. “You can't give up easily.” She yelled at the people then turned to Kai. “How dare you kill an official of the Alpha, you won't go scot free. I'll murder you…”

She managed to free herself then suddenly she began to transform. Her heart began to beat faster and her senses became more clearer. Madeline's body began to shift and her bones reformed as fur grew.

“Oh wow. The princess finally decided to join the party.” Kai mocked her.

“Kai!!” Madeline screamed from the bottom of her heart, her chest in pain. “You bastard! I'll kill you…”
