Chapter 3
Madeline jumped up and appeared right in front of the traitor. She charged straight at him but he barely moved, sidestepping all her moves against him. She wouldn't give up as she continued but a hit from Kai got her on the floor on her knees.
“Finally on your knees?” Kai laughed. “Madeline, this is my destiny, my fate and there's really nothing you can do about it.”
“Never! You stole my birthright! This is my destiny.” Madeline screamed as she sprang back up from her knees, her movements swift and fast, that none of the Omegas could keep up with her but still Kai didn't move a muscle.
As Madeline continued lunging at him, he only needed to stretch out his hands to grab her by the neck which abruptly stopped her movements.
“Is this how an Alpha is to fight? You are not fit to be an Alpha. You are weak!” He whispered in her ears. “Have you forgotten that we were betrothed and I was your master. Every move you make, I already know it.”
Madeline didn't want to feel weak but she couldn't breathe. Kai's face was gleaming with victory and satisfaction. “You have no say in what goes on here anymore so you should know your place, okay?”
“I'll never let you win. It's not possible for you to win. Never!” Madeline cried as her hands clawed at his, begging for him to leave her. He coldly slammed her to the floor with a force that left her unconscious.
Without even sparing her a look, he ordered them to lock her up. Everyone in the hall murmured and whispered as the only Alpha they knew was being carried away from the scene.
The tension could be felt as everyone stared at the new man who stood before them as their Alpha.
Kai first scanned the hall before talking. “Alpha Jaxon is dead, like you must have heard. Of course I'm not going to deny it. He died in my own hands.”
This confession wasn't new but it made whispers rise from every corner in the room. Impatiently, Kai released a powerful roar which sent shivers down the being of his listeners.
He laughed. “Finally, I can taste it.” He said to himself, then to his listeners. “This is the mighty Alpha Roar. I am the Alpha now.” Kai observed his listeners and he knew that something would play stubborn bit he exactly how to bring them to their knees.
“Bow to your king or you'll come face to face with death just like the king did. Any objections?”
Kai waited.
One by one, every single man and woman who was at the hall went on their knees to honour the new Alpha.
“Hail the new Alpha!”
“Hail the new Alpha!”
They all submitted to their new leader, afraid of being killed just like he threatened them.
A WEEK LATER
Madeline curled up in the empty cold cell. She had been here for a week and had even lost count of the time. Whether it was day or night, she didn't know but she could give anything to be outside.. or anywhere that wasn't this cold and barren cell.
The sounds of footsteps drew her attention to the door. The door creaked open to reveal Chad.
“My Alpha.”
Chad was one of the most trusted elders of the Pack. He and Derrick, who had confronted Kai and gotten killed, were Jaxon's closest friends. Unlike Derrick, Chad was more smart and level headed.
Chad had expected Madeline to have gotten sick after not eating well for a week but instead of hunger, he found a fierce determination in her eyes. Just one week ago, he could remember how warm hearted the Princess has always been but now, all he could see in her gaze was venom.
“Take this.” He said, giving her some bread. “I know it isn't much but it's better than nothing.”
Madeline snatched the bread from him, tearing into it like a savage. Chad understood. Afterall, she hasn't eaten in days and hunger consumed her like fire.
“You need to hurry. We are leaving this Park tonight.”
“Leaving? I can't leave. I need to get my plans together. I'm going after Kai.” She said, still eating.
Chad shook his head, sadly. “You can't do that now. Not when you are in this state. You are in no position to fight so you have to leave for the moment. You can't match the Alpha power that Kai now possesses.”
Madeline didn't want to believe that she was supposed to leave Royal blue park and its people in the hands of Kai.
“No. I have to fight. My father taught me everything I should know so I'll fight, no matter what.” Madeline insisted.
“Remember that your father entrusted you in the hands of Kai who was your mate, hoping he would teach you how to fight so you would ascend the throne, instead the monster didn't do that, instead he kept wanting all the power for himself.”
Madeline still didn't budge. Her eyes were filled with sorrow and pain, she was filled with the hunger for revenge.
“I'm not taking revenge away from you, instead I'm giving you a chance of a properly planned out revenge that would shake Kai and let you reclaim your birthright as the Alpha. You just have to be patient.”
Madeline nodded, finally agreeing to Chad. He handed her a black cloth.
“Cover your head and follow me.” Chad said and together they exited the cell carefully, quietly passing over the guards that were all asleep. “We put some sleeping pills in their drink to enable you to escape.”
“We?” Madeline couldn't believe that they had gone out of their way to save her. For that, she swore never to forget the people.
They managed to leave the castle as they stood in the courtyard which led to the outside world. A place where, since childhood, Madeline has been warned never to step into.
“Here, my princess.” Chad pulled out a letter from his pocket. “Your father predicted that his enemies would end his life, so he entrusted this letter to me. In this letter lies the answer to all your questions.”
“Father…” Madeline received the paper with shaky hands.
