Chapter 5 Madeline didn't even turn back as she ran. At one point, she lost track of how far she had run. The trees blurted as she sprinted through the forest. When she turned back, looking around, she was sure she was many miles away from home. She was now totally exhausted so she decided to take rest, transforming back to her human form. She was now naked since her clothes tore when she was transforming into her wolf. She was still wondering where she was, when her stomach growled in hunger. She scanned the environment, her nose twitching as she caught the scent of something delicious not far away. She went in search following the lead her nose provided. There, she saw it. It was a freshly killed deer, laying at a side. Someone must have left this there, she thought but her mouth watered as she stared at the carcass because the hunger was overwhelming for her. She changed back into her wolf and devoured what was remaining of the deer which was enough to satisfy her hunger. She ate to her fill, the flesh and blood of the deer able to give her the energy she hasn't had in a while. Immediately after she finished, she felt a wave of exhaustion come over her and she curled on the floor and went to sleep. She woke up, hours later, in her human form only to find a figure standing over her. She was about to charge at him, all fangs and claws when she found out that she was tied. She felt embarrassed and afraid at the same time as sleep jolted out of her eyes. “Who are you?” “I should be the one asking that question.” He said, still staring. “And don't try to cover yourself up. I mean I have been standing here for hours watching you.” “Untie me.” Madeline growled, struggling to free herself. “Calm down, if I had wanted to hurt you, then I would have done that when you were asleep.” He said, untying her and using his coat to cover her up. “My name is Lucas Blackthorn.” He said, standing over her. “Madeline.” Madeline thought that the name was a very weird one. She took the coat grateful that she had something to cover up even though it wasn't much. Lucas stood tall, muscular with broad shoulders. There was something his brown eyes did to her as he stared down at her. “What are you doing here?” “It's none of your business.” Madeline answered, helping herself up. Of course she wasn't going to blindly trust a stranger she didn't know, no matter how attractive he looked. Lucas laughed. “Actually, it is.” He said, looking intently at her. “What do you mean?” “You see, I'm the one in charge of this part of this forest. In Fact, this place is my domain so I know every single part and could be of help to you, after all I'm the true son of this land, Carthepian coven.” “You are?” Madeline became suddenly excited. “I mean, is this place really Blackwood forest?” She was literally grabbing the young man by his shirt, her disbelief evident. “Yes. It is.” “Oh thank the goddess. I'm so glad. I need your help.” Madeline said, regaining her composure. “I'm looking for someone here.” “Who is it?” Lucas asked. “Rose Witherfield.” Madeline announced. “Why? Why do you want to see her?” Lucas asked which made Madeline suspicious of what he had said minutes ago. Was he really a member of this coven? What if he lied? Madeline still didn't have any choice but to tell him about her identity. “She's my mother.” “What?” There was surprise written all over his face. “Rose is my predecessor.” “Can you take me to her?” “I will be glad to take you to her but first..” He said, his brown eyes turning to red ones. “Let's see.” “What?” She asked, unsure of what he was doing. “Wow. Only my kind are immune to my deep shot stare.” He said. “You are quite an interesting one.” He pointed out, leading the way. Madeline wondered what he meant by “his kind”, was he also a witch like her mother? She would have answers to this question soon as she followed him to his home. Soon, they got to the Witches castle. It was a grand Palace filled with intricate and delicate pieces of architecture. At the gate, several maids and guards stood in line to welcome Lucas . “When do I get to see Rose?” Madeline asked, not wanting to delay anymore. “You'll see her tomorrow.” Lucas said but seeing that she was about to protest, he explained to her that she had a meeting and would return only tomorrow. Madeline was led into a room, spacious and fit for a princess. She was tired and needed a bath, so she began to undress but suddenly she detected a scent just outside her door. “Who's that? You shouldn't peek when someone's changing.” The door creaked open and a man who looked exactly like Lucas walked in but unlike Lucas , he had a very dark expression and tired black eyes. His face was round unlike his brother's and devoid of emotions. “Who are you?” The man's movement was slow but deliberate. His expression filled with anger, and unexplainable malice. Madeline felt a dark aura around him and possessed a certain type of darkness that Madeline hadn't sensed ever. “Who the hell is this man?” She wondered, fear creeping over her. He kept approaching her until she couldn't step back anymore, her back hitting the wall. “Or rather what are you? I can't seem to identify your scent.” He sniffed again. “You have two scents.” Madeline’s legs were weak and she couldn't move. Her heart raced as he sniffed her but she still maintained a strong facade, after all, she was supposed to be the Alpha of her park. “I'll tell you what I told Lucas, the Lord of Blackwood… It's none of your business.” She held her breath as he stared down at her, feeling a powerful force she couldn't resist. Then suddenly, he pulled away. “Oh, I see you've met that fool. By the way, I'm Liam, the Lord of this powerful Coven, not him.” He turned to leave but stopped. “Welcome to my Territory, we are going to have so much fun.” With that, he slammed the door which made a loud echo that made Madeline jump. She used her hands to wipe the sweat off her face and she used the other hand to calm her racing heart. “What just happened?” She whispered to herself, her voice filled with fear and confusion. It still wasn't clear to Madeline that these two twin brothers were after power and would later come after her.
