Spa Day With Joshua

-Veronica Langford- As the morning sun rays filtered into my room, I tossed around in my bed restlessly trying to get back to sleep but I couldn’t. I got up from my bed and didn’t even bother to wash my face or brush my hair, I stepped out of my room, heading for the kitchen I could already perceive the aroma of whatever was sizzling in the kitchen. I rubbed my both eyes as i descended the stairs, still half asleep “Momm, what’s for breakfast? I’m famished” I asked, not bothering to open my eyes “Well, we’ve got pancakes and hot dogs” A deep voice replied instead of my mom’s light voice i was expecting, startling me. My eyes flung open and I saw him in the kitchen stirring the hot dogs with a smug smile on his face Shit! How could I forget that he had moved in with us. “What are you doing? And where’s my mom” I shot at him “Good morning to you too, sunshine. Sleep well?” he said, his eyes scanning me, lingering far too long on my messy hair and my… thin nightgown. Of all the mornings to run into him, it had to be today, when I hadn’t even washed my face or brushed my hair. I suddenly felt self conscious. My hair was a complete mess and I was just in my thin, transparent nightgown with the sleeveless hand dropping from my shoulders. Could he see my n*****s from my nightgown? I ran my hand through my hair and then folded them over my chest to hide my erect n*****s. Why was I so self conscious? ‘I don’t care about him. He is my mom’s fiance’ i tried to convince myself “How I slept is none of your business and you haven’t answered my question” I walked into the kitchen poured myself a glass of water. His eyes followed my every movement closely “Always so pleasant in the morning. Aren’t you?” he turned off the fire and turned to face me. “You like hot tea right with milk?” “Yes. what does that have to do with anything?” “We’re out of milk so your mom stepped out to go get some” he answered, leaning on the kitchen counter “We’re?” i asked, lifting my brows. “Stop acting like this is your house too. I just have to find prove that you’re here for my mom’s money and you’d be out of here in a snap of my fingers” He walked close to me, each step slow and deliberate. He stoppped just inches away from me and sip of water i had taken froxe in my throat. His scent was warm and inviting, calling out to me to just bury my face into his chest but I held myself back. He watched my throat and ran his fingers over it as I swallowed the water. He caressed my throat slwoly with his thumb and i struggled not to show any expression, although his touch made my heart race. He stepped back like he was holding himself back and took the glass from my hand and set it down on the kitchen counter “You really don’t like me, do you?” he asked, his voice a low rumble that sent shivers down my spine. “Not even a little bit,” I lied, my voice trembling slightly For someone who claims to hate me, you sure spend a lot of time trying to get my attention. Always ready to argue.” His hand brushed my arm as he lifted the strap of my nightgown back onto my shoulder. The simple act was so maddeningly intimate that I couldn’t breathe for a second. His gaze held mine for a moment longer, and then he turned back to the stove, picking up the spoon like nothing had happened. “You should sit for breakfast” I hated the way his touch lingered on my skin. I hated the way my heart raced around him. But most of all, I hated the part of me that didn’t want him to stop. Without another word, I stormed out of the kitchen and back to my room. Flopping onto my bed, I groaned into my pillow. Why couldn’t I stop thinking about him? Why did my mom out of all the men in the world have to pick him to be her fiance? Why was I so attracted to the man my mother was engaged to? That was definitely not normal I needed to get him out of my head. And out of this house. The faster I proved he was after her money, the faster I could breathe again. Or at least that’s what I told myself. To distract myself, I grabbed my phone and opened my anonymous i********: account. My sext buddy hadn’t replied since our last… intimate video call. Hey. I haven’t heard from you in a while, I typed, hitting send. A moment later, the three dots appeared. He was typing. My heart raced as I waited. But the dots disappeared as soon as it came. “Ronnieeeeee” I heard my mom's voice as I was about to text him again. “Come down for breakfast” I sighed and got into the bathroom, took a shower and brushed my teeth before I went downstairs. Joshua and my mom were already seated. “Good morning, sweetheart,” my mom greeted brightly as I walked into the dining room, where the smell of syrup and coffee filled the air. She was perched next to Joshua, practically glowing as she laughed at something he’d said. He was sitting close to her, his arm was casually over the back of her chair, a charming smile on his lips as he sipped his coffee. The sight made something twist in my stomach. “Morning,” I muttered, sliding into my seat across from them. “Pancakes and hot dogs for breakfast,” my mom said cheerfully, motioning to the plates on the table. Joshua glanced at me, his eyes lingering just a little too long. “She knows. We already had a little chat in the kitchen.” “Oh?” My mom raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “About what?” “Nothing important,” I said quickly, shoving a piece of pancake into my mouth before Joshua could answer. “Right,” Joshua added, his tone dripping with amusement. “Nothing important at all.” I glared at him across the table, but he just smirked, looking far too pleased with himself. “So,” my mom began, resting her hand on Joshua’s arm in a way that made my stomach clench. “What are your plans for the day?” Joshua leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly on the table. “I was thinking about heading to the spa to get some work done. They’re remodeling one of the lounges, and I need to check in.” “Oh, that sounds amazing,” my mom gushed “I’ve been meaning to check out the spa since you mentioned it.” “You should come by sometime,” Joshua said smoothly, his smile warm. “I’ll give you the VIP treatment.” My mom laughed, touching his arm again, and I had to grip my fork tighter to keep from snapping it in two. “I would love to but I've got some work to handle today. You know who could use a spa day?” my mom said suddenly, turning to me. I froze, the bite of pancake halfway to my mouth. “What?” “You!” she declared, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “You’ve been so tense lately. It would be good for you to get out of the house for a bit, you know get a little massage” “Oh, I don’t think—” “She’s right,” Joshua interrupted, his gaze locking with mine. “You could use a break, veronica” My mom clapped her hands together, delighted. “Perfect! You can go with Josh. He’ll take care of everything.” “What?” I sputtered, looking between the two of them. “It’s settled,” my mom said, completely ignoring my protests. “You’ll go with him.” Shit! What did i just get myself into? A day alone with joshua? How was I going to control myself?
