PROLOGUE
Fifteen-year-old Ashley was crying and looking at her best friend Sam, for whom she has feelings as well. He was kissing Sophie, the girl who has been harassing Ashley since the day she joined the school. They danced, looking at one another, lost in their own world. That's when Sophie looked in her direction and saw her. She gave her her diabolical smirk by saying that you're a loser; even your best friend doesn't like you.
Ash seriously felt that Sophie had won since she had admitted her feelings to Sam earlier and that he had not only rejected her but also insulted her. He not only shattered her heart but also their 12-year friendship by insulting him.
A Few Hours Ago:
Ashley posed in front of the mirror wearing a red outfit. She was anticipating the party tonight because she planned to tell her best friend, whom she adores, how she really felt. When she arrived here with her mother, she met Sam. He had intervened to protect her when a few girls had been picking on her. She was used to being bullied because it happened all the time, but it made her feel good when someone defended her. They have been great friends ever since. However, she planned to upgrade their relationship from best friends to a couple in love today. She was afraid and uneasy as she wondered how Sam would respond to her confession.
Her mother had complimented her appearance as she left the house. And she hoped Sam would enjoy how she looked because she had dressed up especially for this event despite being a tomboy who despises wearing makeup. She walks in and scans the crowd in an effort to find Sam. But much to her dismay, Sam was nowhere to be seen. When she noticed Sam talking to his buddies in a corner, she started looking around for him. She was watching him when Sophie the b*tch approached him, which made her feel uneasy. She then started to walk in their direction because she had overheard girls talking about Sophie liking Sam in the restroom.
Sam turned when she went there and called him. He looked at her and grinned, and She felt her heart warm when she saw him turn and smile at her. However, Sophie the b*tch ruined it by encircling his hand with hers and calling him with her obnoxious voice. Even though Ash was unaware of what had occurred, she felt compelled to tell Sam right away what was going on in her heart, lest that b***h ruin it as she smirked at her.
So, without considering the repercussions, she nearly shouted, "I love you, Sam."
Sam's glass fell over, and he looked shocked as he turned to face her. When she heard gasps, she looked around and noticed that many people were observing her. She stands in front of Sam as her cheeks begin to turn red while she waits for his response. But when Sam started laughing aloud and other people joined in laughing as well, her vision of a happy life with Sam was dashed. As the entire classroom started laughing, her smile faded. She tried to keep her tears from falling, as she hoped Sam would be joking. But instead of expressing his feelings, he insulted her.
Trying not to chuckle, he exclaimed aloud, "How can you possibly imagine that I will love a lady like you, Ash? You crack me up. Since I don't even like you, love is currently a long way off. The love of my life wouldn't be a tomboy like you; she'd be attractive and seductive."
She was stung by what he said, but she nevertheless stood quietly in his presence in the hopes that he would clarify that he was joking.
"Sam, look at her and see what she is wearing today. She appears to be a harlot pleading for attention." Sophie murmured as she opened her mouth. Sam and the rest of the people laugh aloud at that.
Despite her broken heart, Ashley asked, "Sam, I thought you were my best friend."
He regains his composure and says, "Yes, you are my best friend, but I can't spend the rest of my life with a woman who doesn't know her father. How can I spend my life with a girl who doesn't even know her own father?"
His final statements caused Ashley to give him a hard smack. That statement had such a profound impact on her that she thought her heart had been shattered. Her best friend's ex-friend thinking this about her made her feel hurt. She had tears running down her cheeks, but she refrained from crying so that she wouldn't have to admit to him how much his comments had upset her.
"If having a father is like being you, then I thank God that he didn't give me one, and thus I am delighted that I don't have one." Ashley retorted while wiping away her tears, then turned around and exited the gathering.
