what was he doing here?

Chapter 22 Sophie POV "Why didn't you tell me Jason is here?" I ask Zara once we are inside the room together, but she only shrugs after she glances at me as if I just asked a stupid question. "Because he asked me not to..." "And you think it was right not to tell me? What if Xander and I had come home together? How do you think he would feel?" I yell at her angrily, and she shrugs. "He won't feel anything. Jason is your ex-boyfriend and not your current boyfriend. You could've just introduced them to each other, and made it known to Jason that you have a man already. Well, not that he mentioned he wanted you back anyway," She utters sarcastically, and I sigh briefly. "Ugh! Why the hell am I even talking to you?" I groan angrily as I stand up and dash into the bathroom, slamming the door hard behind me. I don't know why I'm so angry, I don't know if it's because Jason was here, or the fact that my crazy friend didn't inform me about it. Why the hell was he even here? What did he want from me? "He thinks he can just show up at my doorstep after all these years as if nothing happened? Is he kidding me?" I scoff as I strip out of my clothes angrily, almost ripping them off. I spent about an hour in the bathroom before I walk back into the room and throw myself on the bed beside the already asleep Zara, not after drying my body. Fifteen minutes passed, and I keep tossing restlessly on the bed as many thoughts flood my mind. My phone suddenly beeps, and I reach out for it as I sit up on the bed. It's a text from Xander. 'Hey, babe. I just got home now. I'm sorry for texting late. I'm coming to pick you up tomorrow on my way to the office. Make sure you wake up early since we are having an appointment in the morning' I sigh after I read the dry message. It doesn't sound romantic, but I wasn't expecting work texts to be full of romantic words, yeah? That's crazy. Shoving my phone under my pillow after I reply to him, I finally manage to get some sleep, but it's almost as if I closed my eyes for seconds, and the blaring sound of alarm pulls me out of my deep slumber. "Ugh!" I groan tiredly as I toss on the bed tiredly, and just as usual, I find myself sleeping alone on the bed, which only means that Zara woke up early as usual. She has always been the first to open. Recalling that Mr. Xander will pick me up soon, I stand up from the bed and walk sluggishly into the bathroom, where I have a quick bath and by the time I walk back into the room, I find Zara cleaning already. Does she ever get tired of doing chores? It seems like it's what she enjoys doing. "It's still very early, you don't have to do that, Zara," I whine as I slump on the dressing chair, and I hear her scoff. "I am not as dirty as you are, Sophie. Cleanliness is next to godliness, just as they say. You are the one that can't clean, I'm not complaining," I wasn't expecting a nice reply from her, knowing the kind of crazy person she is, anyway. "Just suit yourself, Zara," I say to her dismissively before she walks out of the room. I set to get ready for work, and just when I finish zipping up my skirt zipper minutes later, the door suddenly burst open, scaring the guts out of me and I gasp sharply as I turn swiftly to find Zara standing with an unreadable expression on her face. "What is it, Zara? You startled me," I roll my eyes as I turn to check myself out in the mirror. "You should be startled, Sophie. There is a big problem as we speak. My in-law is here," She utters, and I roll my eyes sarcastically. I can't talk her out of calling him her in-law, because who the heck says that Zara would ever listen to me? "What's the problem with him being here? I'm done getting dressed already," I utter as I pick up my handbag from the bed, turning to face her. "Actually, you will understand when you get to the living room. Anyway, good luck with handling things down there, and your breakfast is packed up in the food flask on the dining table," Now, I'm getting more confused about what she's saying, but shouldn't I just go out and see for myself, what she's talking about? Casting her another confusing look, I finally pull the door open and saunter of my room, going to the living room, but I stop on my track when I finally arrive in the living room, and the shock of my life welcomes me. Mr. Xander is sitting there with his legs crossed, and Jason sitting on the chair across from him. Wait a minute! What the hell is Jason doing here this early morning? "Sophie..." Jason calls and stands up to his feet as soon as he notices my presence, and I gulp down nothing as I suddenly feel nervous. I know it's not something to be worked up about, but I can't help it. "Babe... Are you ready for work yet? And... Who is this? Is he your friend? You never told me you have a friend aside from Zara," Mr. Xander says all in one sentence as he stares at me with a demanding expression on his face, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat. "Uhm... This is Jason, the one I told you about," I reply to him, and his eyes flicker with anger as he glances over to Jason who seems lost before he returns his gaze to look at me. The look on his face shows that he's not happy about what is happening here, but he should also know that I didn't do anything wrong, right? "Who is he, Sophie?" Just when I'm still finding it difficult to get out of this s**t of Xander being enraged, Jason throws another question at me, and I shut my eyes tightly. "This is Mr. Erubas Xander, my boss, and my boyfriend," I reply to Jason, and I bet his mouth drops open in shock and his eyes slowly narrow as he stares at me. Wait! Is he thinking that I would be waiting for him all these years? Anyway, I waited, but it just didn't work...
