She still loves him

Chapter 24 Sophie POV Before lunchtime, my phone rang and when I answered it, I realized that it was Jason, and he told me he was on our company's premises. I mean, why the heck was he here? I left my office a few minutes before lunchtime, and I saw him parked outside our gate once I stepped out. "What are you doing here, Jason?" I asked him earlier once I got to where he was standing. "Uhm... I came to see you," He had replied to me, and I felt like crying. Mr. Xander will be so pissed if he finds him here. "Can we talk later when I get home from the office? This is my workplace, and you can't just show up here like that. It's not right," I tried to convince him so he would go back, but he didn't seem like he would listen to me, since he insisted that we have lunch together so we could talk over there. "What is going on here?" The voice I've been scared of hearing finally speaks up behind me, and I freeze on the spot. s**t! I thought he won't leave his office since he never does, so what is he doing here? I quickly put on a smile and turn to face him, but his eyes are on Jason, gleaming with anger. "Uhm... I'm sorry, Sir..." "Drop the honorific, Sophie, I am your fiance," He cuts me off, and I snap my head to look at him. When did he ask me to marry him that he's calling me his fiance? I didn't remember that, but does that matters now? "You need to leave, Jason. I need to get back to work," I quickly say to Jason as I turn to leave, but he holds my hand, bringing me to an abrupt halt, and I feel waves of sparks surge through me. I thought the feeling was gone, but it turns out that I was fooling myself. They are still there. I gulp down nothing as I suddenly feel my heart racing fast, and I quickly yank my hand from his grasp, rushing to my office afterward. I barge into my office minutes later and lean over the table as I try to catch my breath. My heart is still racing fast, and I feel like it's going to leave my chest eventually. "Do you still love him?" I almost jump out of my skin as I turn sharply to see Mr. Xander standing with his hands tucked in his pockets. "You startled me," I breathe heavily. "Do you still love him?" He asks as his eyes pierce into mine, and I quickly turn my gaze away from him. "Wha...what are you saying? I don't love him, of course. How am I still supposed to love him after so many years?" I scoff nervously. Silence creeps in the air, and I doubt if he believed what I said to him. He stares at me with an unconvincing look on his face, and he finally sighs after a long silence. "I don't want you to talk with any other man, Sophie. You are mine alone, and if you need anyone to talk to, I will always make myself available for you, I promise," He utters sweetly, and I can't help the smile that laces up my lips. "I know I may not be the best man you want to be with, but I promise to improve, all I need is some time. I will be that man you want to spend the rest of your life with. You won't leave me for him, will you?" Now, he's sounding possessive and sweet at the same time. Aren't I lucky to have someone that desperately wants to be with me? "I won't leave you. It's nothing to panic about," I reply to him as I give him an assuring smile, and he slowly nods his head. "Uhm... Will your friend be free tonight? We can all hang out together, you know?" He suggests, but I quickly shake my head. "No, she can't join us, please," I decline, and he raises his eyebrows. If he knows the kind of crazy person I have as a friend, I bet he won't even want to have her around him. "She won't be free?" He inquires, and I quickly nod my head. I know Zara will kill me if she finds out about this, but it's the best I can do. I can't let her come with us. "Alright. I will make a reservation for us at a restaurant. We can go after work, or what do you think?" He asks, and I nod my head quickly. "I will love it," I reply to him sincerely, and he nods his head before he turns and walks into his office wordlessly. The rest of the day at the office was filled with me working my ass out and trying to sort the heap of documents on my desk. It was stressful, but I managed to sort everything out, and I finally pull through with everything shortly before closing time. Just when I'm rounding up and ready to go on the date with Mr. Xander, his door suddenly bursts open, and he storms into my office. "Are you ok? Is everything alright?" I ask him, seeing the terrific look on his face, but he quickly nods his head. "Something urgent came up, and I don't think I can make it again. I promise to make it up to you some other time. I need to leave now," He utters hurriedly before he storms out of my office, not even waiting for me to say anything. Is he kidding me? "What happened to him?" I mutter as I stare at the closed door, but I shrug the questions off and proceed to shut down the desktop, after which I finally stride out of my office. Since there's no vehicle going from the bus stop from here, I decide to walk down there, which will either take me about ten or fifteen minutes, and I'm already exhausted from work. I know I can't walk that long, but I really need to try my best if I want to get home and not stuck on the road later. I barely for five minutes and I stop to catchy breathe, but a familiar car pulls over beside me, and the tinted glass wine down, revealing Jason. "I was going to pick you up from the office. Hop in and let me drop you off at home," He offers as he pushes the door open for me. I am torn between entering the car and walking to the bus stop which is still about ten minutes ahead, and who knows, I may miss the bus since my walking now would be slow because my legs that are already tired. "You don't have to worry... The bus stop is just ahea..." "The bus is not working today because of road maintenance. Come on, hop in," He utters, and I know that I don't have an option at this point. Not that I was planning to decline the ride before, anyway. I didn't just want to make it look like I really needed it. I was waiting for him to say it one more time before I hop inside the car. "Thank you," I mutter once I hop inside the car and fasten my seatbelt. The ride to my house began, with silence taking over the atmosphere. "How have you been?" He suddenly asks as he glances at me, and my heart misses a beat...
