Chapter 09

Next morning, Sarah woke up with a call.

She took the phone while rubbing her eyes. It was Jenny.

Hello. Sarah answered the phone and tried to open her eyes.

Hey girl. Were you sleeping?  Jenny replied with a question

Yes I was sleeping. Sarah answered and looked at the wall clock. I was eleven in morning.

You’re lazy. Jenny giggled

Yes I am. Sarah answered and asked Jenny, “Why did you call?”

First wake up. It’ll be noon in one hour. Jenny said and giggled

You already did that. Sarah sighed

Hahaha. Jenny laughed

Oh yeah, I called to tell you that we can’t meet today because the rat I was following wants me to follow him more. Jenny answered in her usual playful tone.

What do you mean? Sarah asked with confusion

Means I won’t be able to come back today so we have to postpone our today’s schedule. Jenny announced her excuse.

Oh then it can’t be helped. Sarah sighed

We’ll meet tomorrow on our decided time and venue. Ok? Jenny asked

Yeah done. Sarah said

Ok then see you tomorrow.

Sarah thought how bad luck she has. She got up from bed and went to bathroom to freshen up. After taking shower she wore the most comfortable sweat shirt and trousers and went downstairs.

Jason’s mother was already in kitchen. When she saw Sarah entering the kitchen, she smiled at her.

You slept well today. She said while cutting onion.

Yes I overslept today. She replied and sat on a chair.

It’s ok. Sometimes it’s ok to relax yourself. She answered while cutting vegetables.

What are you making? Sarah asked

I am preparing for lunch. She replied. What you want in breakfast? She asked Sarah while taking out eggs from fridge.

It’s ok. I’ll eat later. Sarah felt embarrassed to let her cook for her. Sarah was like that from childhood. She does all of her work on her own. She always wanted to become independent. It was the reason, she was living away from her parents. The relationship between her and her parents was not good.

I am making pancakes for you and don’t you dare to say no. I know how much stubborn you are. Jason’s mother scolded her. She knew Sarah when she was a baby. She loved her like her own child. She scolded Sarah many times before too so Sarah was used to it and never took it to her heart.

Here we go. Jason’s mother put the plate of pancakes in front of Sarah and sat beside her. “Now eat”. She ordered.

Sarah looked at her and obediently started eating. Sarah knew that even Jason’s mother is a kind and loving lady but at the same time when she gets angry, she is the most terrifying person.

After finishing her breakfast, she washed her plate. Jason’s mother went to the garden behind her house to get some chilies, where she grew some vegetables for convenience and to pass her time.

Aunty let me help you. Sarah said when she came back.

Sure. Come let me teach you this recipe too.

Sarah spent the whole day with Jason’s mother. They watched movies for entire day and went for walk together and had dinner together at a newly established restaurant they decided to go on a whim.

When they came back, it was already late. Jason’s mother was a morning person so she goes to bed early too. She went to bed after coming back.

Sarah went to her room too. She thought to call her mother too. She had bad relationship with her parents after Roy left her in college days.

She called her mother.

Hello. Her mother answered the phone

Hi mom. Sarah greeted her mother.

How are you? Her mother replied

Mom, I miss you. She tried to control her emotions.

I miss you too. Why don’t you call often? Her mother said

How’s Dad? Sarah asked about her father. Even though they don’t have good relationship they were still her parents and they loved her very much.   

He is fine too. When are you coming here? Her mother asked her.

Very soon mom. She replied

She talked with her mother for 15 minutes. After talking to her mother, she felt relived. She took shower and changed in her pajamas then went to bed.

Sarah woke up early. She had to go office. She already took many leaves. She made breakfast for her and Jason’s mother. When she was setting the table, Jason’s mother came to the kitchen.

You woke up early? She asked

Oh yes aunty. I need to go to office today. There’s a pile of work waiting for me. She replied

Aunty would you like to have a cup of coffee? I have already made your breakfast. Sarah asked Jason’s mother while pouring coffee in her cup.

Yes sure. She replied and sat.

Sarah made sandwiches. Sarah loved sandwiches. She usually make sandwiches as it was the easiest food to be make during busy schedule and eventually it became her habit to eat sandwiches in morning.

When will you come back? Jason’s mother asked Sarah while sipping her coffee.

Umm….. I can’t say anything now. You know I have so much pending work and I have dinner plans with my friend. So I’ll be late. She replied.

Okay. Just take care of yourself. Jason’s mother replied with a smile.

Sarah felt very awkward for some reasons but she hid her awkwardness and ate her breakfast quietly. After having breakfast, Sarah took her bag and left for office.
