Episode 1: Dylan
"Ding dong," the doorbell rang, waking Dylan up from his sleep
"Argh," he whined as he used two pillows to cover his ears, trying to ignore the noise and continue sleeping
"ding dong," "ding dong," the doorbell rang again
"Who the hell is that?" Dylan asked yelling
"the housekeeper," a female voice replied from outside
" Okay, come in," Dylan whined tiredly, sitting up on his bed
"Good morning, Master Dylan," the housekeeper greeted him as she entered the room. "Your parent asked me to call you. They are waiting for you in the living room."
" Okay, tell them I'm coming," Dylan said amidst yawning, and the housekeeper nodded and walked out of the room, shutting the door gently behind her
"Just look at the time, it's just 9 a.m. Who demands to see someone as early as 9 a.m.? I can't even get a proper sleep in this house. My God, I want to go back to my apartment." Dylan complained to himself as he got up sluggishly from the bed and headed straight to the washroom to freshen up.
Thirty minutes later, he was done; he walked out of his room and went downstairs to the living room to meet his parent. When he got to the living room, he stopped at the door and pipped at his parent to see their expressions. They were not looking happy at all, especially his dad. He looked furious, complaining angrily about him like he would pounce on him once he saw him.
"I can handle this," Dylan said and sighed as he walked into the room
" Good morning, Dad. Good morning, Mom," he greeted them, putting up a fake smile, trying to calm them a little, but it didn't work
" Dylan, when did you return to this house yesterday?" his father Mr, Leo, asked him, ignoring his greeting
" nine... Ten.. Ten thirty... Eleven o'clock," he stammered
" Dylan, you better stop lying. We waited for you until eleven thirty pm yesterday," his mother said to him, feeling very disappointed in him
"ahh, yes, eleven thirty. I was about to say eleven thirty-five, " Dylan said as he laughed pretentiously, jamming his hands together
"Dylan, are you out of your mind? Does it look like we are joking with you? " his father yelled at him angrily, and he stopped laughing immediately.
"I'm sorry, sir," he said, bowing his head and trying to cover his embarrassment
"Dylan, how old are you?" his father asked him, breathing down, trying to calm his nerves
"Oh, me? I'm 25... Oh, I'll be turning 26 next week, " he stammered again
"my God, a 26-year-old full-grown man returning from the club around midnight every day, tell me, Dylan, what do you intend to use your life for?" his father asked him again, still breathing down, trying to calm his nerves and he was quiet not knowing what to say
"Come on, answer me now, you fool," his father yelled angrily at him again, trying to throw his shoe at him, but his wife held him
" Baby, please calm down," Dylan's mother, Mrs Eunice, said to her husband, Dylan's father, trying to stop him from throwing the shoe at him
"Answer him now, Dylan," she yelled at Dylan, and Dylan was still quiet, still not knowing what to say
" Dylan, I asked you to write a CV and submit it to me since the last two weeks. Dylan, where is the CV? Dylan, why haven't you submitted it to me? Answer me now, you foolish and lazy boy," his Father yelled again angrily
"I'm... I'm still trying to organize it; you know, writing a CV is difficult," Dylan replied, stammering
" What? Writing a CV is difficult for you, a PhD degree holder. When even high school seniors write and submit CVs and application letters to our companies almost every day requesting part-time jobs, and you, a Ph.D. degree holder, say it is difficult, you fool," his father said and charged at him to hit him, but his wife held him back from hitting him
"Baby, leave me alone. Let me hit him when other people were getting normal children. I don't know where we got this fool from," his father yelled, trying to get out of his wife's grip, but she held him tighter
" Baby, please calm down," she said to as she held him back
"Dylan, please tell your father you are sorry, and tell him you will write and submit the CV today," his mother said to him, still holding back his father from hitting
"no baby, you don't need to beg him," his father said to his wife as he calmed down and stopped trying to hit him
"Dylan, since two years ago that you graduated from the university, I've been pampering you and petting you as my only son and my successor. I've asked countless times what your goals in life are so I'd know how to try and help you achieve them and help you become a successful man like me, but all you have given me is a deaf ear. You always tell me you will think about it, but you never do. Instead, all you do is go to clubs and night parties every single day with your jobless friends. You even went as far as renting an apartment without my knowledge, and you furnished it with my debit card so you could do whatever you wanted, and no one would know. I just went to fetch you from there last two weeks and still asked you again to write and submit a CV to me so that I can give you a job in my company, but still, you refused because you have decided to become a useless son but don't worry I can also help you achieve that too. Dylan, look at your cousin Reggie. He is very obedient and hardworking. He doesn't go around partying, and he has been working for me in my company since he graduated from school, but you never learn from him now, Dylan. I am giving you from now till tomorrow morning to write and submit your CV to me and start working in my company, or I'll disown you as my son, and you will lose the chance of becoming my successor forever, and nothing will ever be able to change it " his Father concluded and stormed out of the room angrily with his wife running after him trying to calm him down
Dylan collapsed on the ground, troubled by what his father said, whining and hitting the ground like a kid. A few seconds after his parents left the room, his cousins rushed in
" Dylan, get up from the floor and stop whining. We heard what happened. How can Dad be so mean to you? " Reggie, his cousin brother, consoled him, trying to lift him from the ground
" what do you mean by dad is so mean? Dad is not mean at all. He is only doing what he is supposed to do as a father," Ariana, his cousin sister, protested
"Don't say such mean words to him. Do you want him to feel more down than he already feels? Reggie challenged her
" yes, I want to feel very bad so that he can repent from his foolishness and laziness. Look at us. We are already dressed for work, but he returned from a party early this morning drunk. I don't even know why you begged Mom and Dad to go to bed last night. They would have stayed awake and caught him when he came back around one o'clock this morning," Ariana protested again
" hey, Ariana, stop that; Dylan is older than you. Stop talking to him in that manner," Reggie cautioned her. She stopped talking for a few seconds, and then she continued again, but this time, she spoke directly to Dylan
" Dylan, I'll send you a copy of my CV when I get to the office so you can go through it and create yours. You better sit up, okay? She said to him as she tapped him on the shoulder, looking at him in a funny and teasing way, and he whined angrily
"I'm off to work now," she said and hurried out of the room
