Chapter 4

1134 Words
Sierra’s POV   How could he do this?   30 minutes earlier…   As soon as I opened the front cover of the file, a familiar but strangely unknown face of a man appeared.   Confused why my dad handed me a file with a man’s picture, I look at my dad only to find him staring right ahead.   Getting the clue that he doesn’t want to answer any questions until I look at the file completely, I flipped to the next paged.   The words on the next page shocked me and tears collected at the rim of my eyes. My worst nightmare seems to be coming true.   The words written as the heading in bold made me drop the file – “BUSINESS MARRIAGE CONTRACT”.   Why is everything worse happening to me? Why is my life cursed like this? Where did my perfectly luxurious life go?   I thought dad coming back home was a good sign that things will be better from then. I thought dad changed into a caring man and I was going to get one of my most desired dream come true – a father’s love.   Well, it seems like he came back here after all for his business. What else would make him come home?   He didn’t even ask about mom and Sally. Is there even a human on earth like him? Is there any other human on earth who is this heartless like him?   He knew all along my only wish was to marry the love of my life, but he is still doing this.   “Dad, what do you mean?” I asked in a low and hurt tone but he seemed unaffected.   “I mean exactly what is written in that contract. You will be having an arranged business wedding with the only son of the Cameron family business – Alexander Cameron.” Dad said to me with a straight face; his tone cold and unaffected even after hearing my hurt tone.   “The wedding will take place in 2 weeks. Everything is already arranged so you don’t have to worry about anything.” He added   “Dad, you know what means to me the most. You know I despise arranged business marriage. You know that this type of marriage means nothing other than a simple business contract between two companies. Why are you doing this to me?” This was the very first time I talked back to my dad.   Never in my life have I ever argued or talked back to Robert Evergreen, because everyone knew whatever he said will surely happen. But he was treating my marriage just as a contract between companies.   He was treating me as a pawn for his business. He knew I hated this the most.   “The Camerons will be visiting our house tomorrow. They will be here till dinner. Make sure that you are on your best behavior.” This was the last thing dad said for the night and went upstairs to his room.   End of flashback   Tears were endlessly falling from my eyes.   My face was smudged with dried up streams of tear, eyes bloodshot red and puffy, and the sleeves of my pale, silk nightgown were soaked with tears and snot. Awfully lady-like.   I knew my life turned upside down since the news of my sister’s death hit my ears. I knew my nightmare has started and it could be endless. Even after knowing all these, my heart was lit with a glimmer of hope and happiness when I opened the door and saw dad’s face.   I knew dad coming back home was bad news but I still wished everything was going to be better.   How foolish of me!   **** Bright rays of the sun fell on my face, waking me up from my dreadful slumber.   I don’t exactly remember when I fell asleep last night but I might have fallen asleep in the middle of crying. I wished everything was another huge nightmare.   But to my dismay, when I went to the washroom to clean up and saw my tear-stained face it hit me that all wasn’t a nightmare.   These days all I wish is the previous days were a nightmare when I wake up every morning.   Cleaning up, I put myself in my sportswear and chose to go for a run to clear off my stressed thoughts from my mind.   The house was busy. Everyone was running here and there – cleaning and arranging the house.   The confusion only lasted for a few seconds when I recalled that my to-be in-laws are going to pay a visit today.   Pushing everything aside, I went to the park a few blocks away from my house for a mind-clearing run.   People say running helps a lot to clear off all your troubling thoughts or stress and anger. I have to admit that I also find this method extremely effective.   I kept on running until my muscles started aching and burning until sweat was dripping from my head. I ran until I couldn’t run anymore.   Finding a small bench by the side of the curvy, brick road, I took a break. Remembering that I forgot my water bottle and towel as I ran away from the chaos in the house, did nothing but make my mood worse.   Yes, my life was getting worse as seconds ticked by!   I let my mind drift off to the strong, manly arms that held me from falling - back in the cemetery. I started wondering who that man was and if I was ever going to meet him again.   What would I do if I met him again? Could I catch feelings for him if I meet him once more? What will even happen if I catch feeling for him?   It’s not like I could be with him. I was getting married to some unknown CEO just because my dad wants to make his business stronger.   Recalling the business marriage that was going to take place in just 2 weeks, tears started rolling off my eyes again. I mourned my sister and mother again.   I wished they took me with them while they left for the journey to heaven.   What could I do to stop this marriage? How can I change my father’s mind? How do I get to know who held me that da in the cemetery?   I was brought back to reality from my thoughts when I felt someone wiping the tears off my cheeks with a soft handkerchief.   “Here,” The handsome stranger said – offering me the handkerchief in his hand and a water bottle. “You look pretty stressed and dehydrated. Have some water”   The man standing in front of me had dark hair which was messy from all the exercising and running making him look hot. He had brilliant hazel orbs as eyeballs that make you feel warm inside and a deeply worried tone.   Everything about him screamed - attractive.   But why did this stranger look oddly familiar? It’s as if I had seen these similar pair of hazel orbs many times before.   Who was he??
