CHAPTER TWO
Seth landed with his crew for the commencement of the outreach.
They are currently at the hotel, seated and surrounded like a conference meeting.
“I believe y'all know what you are here for?.” He said, his dark eyes trailing each of them making them respond with a nod.
“No slacking, and if anyone is found doing such, you will be sacked and not just that, you'll also be seriously reprimanded. I'm I understood?”
“Yes sir” they all chorused.
Seven of them.
“With that being said, you can all leave for your various rooms to prepare for tomorrow”. He said, standing up from his chair.
They all stood up also and began to leave.
Seth stayed back, his eyes fixed like someone who was in a deep thought, towards the large vertical glass window.
Though he is a doctor, this hotel is his.
No one knows, except his secretary who's also his close friend, Daniel.
He then went up to his room, changed to casual wear with a face cap on.
He just wanted to stroll and see the hometown he hadn't been able to see as a result of work for a long time.
He had already walked a little bit too far from the hotel, when he bumped into someone.
A lady.
■■■■■
“Don't stroll and go too far my darling. You know you haven't been to this hometown far too long now”
Emily kept the words of her grandmother while taking a stroll.
It's been two days now that she has been in this hometown.
She is healing, thank goodness.
But then again, her mind drifted to the conversation she had with her granny concerning the outreach she's to attend.
Seth Hernandez.
The name alone makes her cringe.
She hates his ego.
‘Puffft!! What does he have that I don't have? That granny has to go ahead and praise him in front of me!’ she thought, angrily.
She was still grumbling when her phone buzzed and she looked at it.
It's an email notification from her secretary.
As she wanted to open the mail, she bumped into something hard.
A person's chest.
Seth's.
■■■■■
Seth looked down on the person to see who that was that bumped into him.
Emily DelaRosa.
“Oh, what a pleasant surprise to see you Miss DelaRosa,” he said, his forehead creased in surprise.
“Yeah” Emily respond, flatly.
‘Of all people, why him!’ she said within herself.
“So, are you also here to host an outreach?” Seth said, “I mean, we could joins hands together”
“Join hands with who?, oh please, that'll be the last thing I'll do on earth” Emily muttered.
Seth's lips twitched. A smirk coming on his lips.
He knows everything. He knows her disdain towards him.
But one thing he doesn't understand is why.
He's literally enjoying her hate towards him, pretending he doesn't know that she hates him.
“Isn't that a little too harsh, Miss DelaRosa?” He said, his expression like that of one who is pained.
“No. I'm just being plain, Mr Hernandez” she returned back the same tone.
Seth nodded calculatively.
“Now if you would excuse me,” she said.
She hadn't taken two steps when he called her, making her turn.
“Emily.” He called her firmly.
The guts!
“You should attend. I mean it will be nice of you to,” was all he said, before he walked past her. Smiling.
She wouldn't lie, her name on his lips sounded too good for her body.
She hates it. But her body seems to like it.
Fraustratedly, she walked towards the other direction.
■■■■■
The day of the outreach came.
Dr. Seth Hernandez, could be seen with his crew.
His crew, setting the place up, while he went about supervising.
In no short time people started coming in.
Elderly people.
It's as if luck was on his side, because it seems the atmosphere understood the assignment.
After it looks like the elders are almost filling up the spaces, Seth walked confidently towards the podium.
As he moved, his presence seemed to fill the space around him, drawing people's attention without seeming to try. The overall effect was one of quiet confidence, a sense of power and authority that was both captivating and intimidating.
On getting to the front, he began
“Good day, esteemed elders. My name is Seth Hernandez, senior doctor of Healing Grace hospital from Houston, and as you all know that I and my teammates are going to commence the medical outreach today which will last for a month. We would like your cooperation so you can get the best from us. Feel free to ask questions and I can assure you that confidentiality is obtained from us”. He said in one go, his voice firm and lacing with calmness and an unexplainable aura.
While he was still addressing the elders, Emily walked in with her grandmother.
Yeah, she came.
She came just for her grandmother.
They walked to an empty seat at the back.
The gathering soon bloomed with noise.
The outreach just began.
Emily's grandmother, because of the relationship her late son, who happens to be Emily's late father, has with Seth's father, she loves and treats Seth like her grandson.
“Emily darling, let's go over there,” she pointed towards where Seth was seated attending to an elderly man.
“Why there granny?, let's just do it here,” Emily grumbled, also pointing, but to a lady's seat.
A crew member of Seth's hospital.
“But I want Seth to attend to me. Besides, you know how I get when someone knows my health status other than family.”
“Family?, when did he become family?” Emily asked. Not getting annoyed.
“Have you forgotten the relationship his father had with your late father.? Grandma asked.
“He isn't family to me just so you know,” Emily muttered.
Her grandmother just shook her head, walking towards Seth, and leaving her to deal with her grudges.
Seeing that her grandmother had left her, and because she didn't want any doctor to discuss her grandmother's health status without her being present.
She followed.
But she hadn't even taken up to three steps, when she slipped and fell.
Those seated around gasped out loud.
“Oh my” her grandmother said, shaking her head.
