CHAPTER ONE Emily stepped out of the plane, immediately it landed. She felt utterly worn out. But because she can't wait to see her boyfriend, Tristan, she is going to his place to surprise him. ‘Maybe I'll just spend a day or two with him.’ She thought. “Baby” she called, on reaching his place. With her bags holding and slowing her back, she dropped them at the entrance. “Baby?” She called again, excitedly. But no response. She knows he's around, because the door wasn't locked. She went upstairs. “Tristan baby” she called louder this time. No response. But she heard noises. What she heard made her stop. “What do you mean I have a babe?, of course I don't” Tristan said. “But you do, I always see you with her,” the person replies. It was on speaker. That was a girl. “Maybe that was my sister you saw” Sister? Emily nearly choked. Tristan doesn't have any sister. Talk less of a cousin sister. Having heard enough, she stormed into the room. “Tristan!” She screamed. Tristan snapped towards her, now facing her. “Emily?” He was shocked. “When did you get back baby?” He asked. “Baby?, did you just call me that?” “Babe, it was all a prank. Whatever you heard on the phone was all a prank” “Prank? Tristan, you called that a prank?” She asked, wide eyed. “I promise you babe–” “Stop calling me that!” She lashed out. She then went closer and slapped him. “Okay!. You heard right, I don't want you anymore, that's why I have to lie to get another one " He said angrily. Lashing back at her. It was as if the world stopped at the moment for Emily. She was dumbstruck. She never saw this coming. “Why?” She asked, quietly. “You know what Emily?, if I'm to be sincere with you, it's because you don't let me touch you!” “Like who the h*ll does that!” He shouted. “I'm your boyfriend Emily for crying out loud!” He continued. “I thought we agreed on this issue from the start of this relationship two years ago, didn't we?” Emily asks. He went silent. “You know what, we are done Tristan”. “I also don't want you anymore!” Oh that word hit her in her chest. But she made sure it didn't show. “Okay, but I hope you regret this. Read my lips, you'll come begging” Emily said. With that she walk-run towards where her bag was, and left the house. On entering the cab she ordered, she burst into heavy tears. She loved him, with her whole heart. And this is how he chose to repay her? Her heart is bleeding. Her phone buzzed with a message. From Tristan. “For your information, I have been having s*x without your knowledge these past two years, so don't feel so high. I WON'T come begging.” Immediately she read that message, she blocked him. She really needs a shoulder right now, but she has no friends. Tristan was her everything. She will just take some days off and inform her staff members and board of directors that she's on leave. With that in mind, she decided to go see her grandma. On getting home, she went straight to her room with her belongings. Standing still with her eyes roaming her room. She felt empty. Every fiber of her being wanted to scream out loud, but she was holding back. There and then, without resting, she booked a flight with her phone immediately to go see her grandma. She packed a few clothings for two weeks. Still in that same attire, she dragged her suitcase and walked out of the house. “Hello grandma”, she said, immediately the person picked the call. She is now at the airport. “My darling”, replied her grandma, as she fondly calls her. “I'm on my way to see you right now granny”, she said. “Is everything alright?” Her grandma asked. “No grandma, all isn't well” she replied, her eyes wanting to pull out another ocean of tears. Her voice was shaky. “Shhhh my darling, it's fine. I'll be expecting you okay?” “Okay grandma.” The call ended. ■■■■ [Galveston County – Hometown] Emily soon arrived at her grandmother's hometown. She saw her grandmother already waiting for her at the entrance of her house. “Granny!” She rushed out of the car and stepped into her grandmother's arms. “Oh my darling,” her grandmother said. By now the driver was bringing out her belongings from the car. “How are you?” Her grandma asked, her palms resting on Emily's cheeks. Seeing no need to hide anymore, she let out those tears she had been holding. “I am not doing fine granny,” she replied teary. “Lets go inside and talk” They walked inside and sat on one of the couches. “Now explain everything to me” Emily explained everything to her grandma, leaving no details behind. “How dare he!” her grandmother thundered, immediately she heard the story. “Do you think it's my fault grandma?” Eniky asked. “How is it your fault? It's not your fault my dear, you were only protecting your body. Besides, didn't you say, he agreed to it from the start?” She nodded “Then that's sorted, he cheated because he wanted to. You weren't an excuse for him to cheat” Her grandma said with all certainty. “Honestly, I feel I didn't give him enough,” Emily cried. “Enough. I don't want to hear anymore of that b*st*rd”. “So what are your plans now?” “I'm not sure yet grandma, I just came here to relax my head” Emily replied. “No problem dear, this is also your house. Less I forget, you know Seth Hernandez right?” Her grandma asked. Emily, as if she didn't know him, started ransacking her brain and pretending not to know him in front of her grandma. “Who is he?” She asked, pretending. “Don't give me that look young lady, we both know that you know that young man.” “Okay, I'm already caught. What happened to him” Emily asked, unenthusiastically. “Well, he is coming with his crew to host a two weeks medical outreach, and guess what?, it's all free!’ Her grandma said, happily. “Nice” Emily said, flatly. She hated hearing his name. Hated how people worshipped him. He is also a doctor just like her. Different specialty. “Don't tell me you're planning to attend,” Emily said. “Because I'm not permitting it. I handle your medical care. You don't need an outreach.” Grandma Whitney, her grandma, leaned back and crossed her arms, her expression turned challenging. “I think it's you who won't be left alone in this house. Because you're coming with me.” Emily froze. “Grandma no. Absolutely not.” Her grandma simple gave her the decision made look. “Make me,” Emily muttered under jer breath, folding her arms. Her grandmother just smiled. The kind of smile that said she fully intended to do just that.
