CHAPTER FOUR
[Tribute portfolio hotel]
In Seth's room, he could be seen with his laptop. Although he is here in this hometown, performing an outreach. He still works by following the health status of his patients.
Right now, he's chatting with a woman from France through the hospital website link who happened to get the link by referral.
The woman: I've been carrying this pregnancy for 12 months now doctor, I seriously don't know what to do anymore!
Seth: Have you been to any hospitals since you noticed the pregnancy has exceeded 9 months?
The woman: Yes, actually it's one hospital I went to. I was scanned and told that there isn't anything wrong with me, but I feel everything is not alright as I do feel pain.
Seth: Okay, I'll let you know when you are to come to New York, to scan you and if there are any abnormalities then you shall commence treatment.
If you don't mind me asking, have you had PCOS before or are you a pcos patient?
The woman: Yes doc….do you think that has affected my child! .
Seth: I can't be so sure of anything yet ma'am but it can probably be the cause. Why don't you come to the hospital first after the date have been communicated to you later today
The woman: Okay doc, thank you…I'll be expecting the date.
After communicating with the woman. His phone immediately rings. He glanced at the phone screen placed beside him on the bed. Seeing that it was his secretary, Daniel. He picked.
“Yes?”
“Sir, this is concerning the task you assigned me. The one where you asked me to find out the reason for the board meeting” Daniel said, all in one go, formally. His voice was low and urgent.
“Okay, spill,” Seth said dryly. Even though he is eager to know why.
“Based on my findings, I learned that this meeting is regarding the late Mr. DelaRosa. Dr. Emily's late father” Daniel said.
“Go on” Seth's expression turned thoughtful.
“So there's a probability that she will also be joining the meeting, and again the location of the meeting has still not been communicated yet” he continued, informing Seth all that he had found out.
The line went silent for ten seconds, with Seth trying to grasp what he had just heard, and Daniel wondering whether his boss was still on the line.
“Boss?”
“You have done very well, Daniel. Will get back to you”.
He said and disconnected the call. Leaving Daniel thinking what his boss is up to.
Seth sat on the bed after he disconnected the call, lost in his own thoughts.
He can't seem to place his hands as to why the meeting is regarding a dead man. He thought of calling his father, but soon discarded the thought, wanting to exercise patience and see how the meeting goes.

[Healing Grace Hospital, New York City]
The biggest hospital in the whole of the city. It happens to be the Hernandez hospital.
Nurses, doctors, paramedics, and other health practitioners could be seen busy with patients. The hospital is always very noisy and bustling.
In one of the rooms in the hospital, is the conference room. This room is so big that it can house three large extended families.
That's how big the conference room is. Not to talk of the whole hospital building.
Even the government hospital is not as big and elegant as this hospital.
A total of six men and one woman could be seen discussing far from the bustling and noisy part of the hospital, in the conference room. One of them is Sr. Mr. Hernandez, and Mrs. Hernandez.
The rest are the board of directors.
They are all seated in circles.
“Isn't this absurd, I mean why must we merge both hospitals!” Mr Francis, one of the directors said, his anger resounding in the hall.
“I concur with what Mr. Francis said. He is right. This can bring chaos and unnecessary fights and competitions" Mr Donalds, another director said.
“Competition?, chaos?, fights?... how can that happen when the two hospitals are literally collaborating together and not separately” Mr Hernandez said. “Besides nothing any of you or the directors of Gifted hands says, that will change a thing. The decision has already been made decades ago” he continues.
His tone was firm and final, signifying the end of discussion.
Tension filled the room, with many boiling in anger. The room fell silent, with the directors exchanging uneasy glances.

[Hernandez mansion]
That same day.
“Honey, don’t you think you need to reconsider this merging?” Laura asked her husband.
They were in their master bedroom. It was 7 p.m., and the room glowed warmly under the chandelier shaped like a cascade of glass petals. Two long sofas sat neatly by the window. Several pictures lined the wall—Seth’s graduation photo, one of the four of them with their closest friends, and an art illustration of a crowned silhouette.
Richness clung to every corner of the room. Even the bathroom, visible through the open door, looked like a miniature palace.
“Laura,” Mr. Hernandez said gently, “there is nothing to reconsider. You know this can’t be a mistake. This isn’t meant to bring pain but unity. Merging and love through all this.”
She frowned.
“What if the kids don’t agree to this?”
“Well, they have no choice. They stand to lose if they don’t.”
Laura sighed loudly and rolled onto her back. She stayed silent, thoughts swirling. A plan was forming in her mind—one she knew she shouldn’t entertain, yet couldn’t stop.
