Leah
“What are you girls still doing? Let's go to campus.”
I was already dressed. My two girlfriends were sitting on the sofa in my house. I was wearing a hot crop top with short sleeves that exposed my navel, where I had a diamond belly ring. I paired it with short designer jeans with fashionable rips that showed off my long legs, and I carried a small handbag with a long strap across my neck.
A few seconds earlier, I had looked at myself in the mirror. My lips looked so sexy with a touch of red lipstick.
“Are you going to campus dressed like this? Haven't you heard?” Helen asked, widening her eyes as though I was the last person to know.
“What is happening on campus that I don't know about?”
“Ladies, I have news for you.”
Helen and Sara walked over to me until we met in the middle of the living room. I didn't think Sara knew either because of the way she looked at Helen.
“Haven't you heard that the billionaire, Damien Anderson, also known as the university's biggest donor, will be speaking at today's public lecture?”
“Why would I miss something like this?” I looked at Helen, slightly jealous that she had heard the news before I did.
She handed me his book. Written on the cover was the title, Becoming Your True Self.
His handsome face was on the cover, along with a short inspirational write-up.
This was the kind of man I wanted in my life.
“The mysterious Mr Damien. The sexiest billionaire bachelor,” Sara said, emphasizing every word as she looked at me.
I was the leader of this group, and they both subconsciously paid attention to me whenever they spoke.
“Mr Damien is an elite man, and a unique man like him will only date the best.” I slightly swayed my hips. “And who is the top b***h in our school?” I looked into my friends' eyes.
“You... Leah,” they echoed, and I could feel goosebumps rise on my skin.
“I already knew the answer, but I wanted to know your mindset. My parents and Mr Damien have been involved in business together. That was the first time I saw him. He is the hottest and most handsome man I have ever seen, and I am the only one worthy of being his girlfriend.”
“Leah, no one can compete with you. But are you still going to wear this outfit?” Sara asked, looking me up and down.
“Girls, I'm going to my wardrobe, and I'm going to wear the most expensive gown and shoes I own. What time is it?”
“9:15 a.m., and the event starts at 10:30.”
“There's still time, but we need to get to the auditorium and secure the front row. I want my dream man to notice me every time he finishes a sentence.”
“Yeah!” they cheered, clapping their hands.
I immediately went inside and changed into my most expensive pink gown, silver-and-gold shoes, and matching handbag.
“Wow... you look so beautiful. How much does everything you're wearing cost?” Helen asked.
“These clothes aren't for the poor, and no student will be wearing anything like this to the auditorium. Altogether, I'm wearing twenty thousand dollars' worth of clothes.”

Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the venue. Students, parents, staff, and visitors had gathered to listen to the mysterious Mr Damien.
The hall was noisy as usual, and we headed for the front row and there were only two empty seats in the front row.
“Girls, what are we going to do?” I asked with a wink.
“One seat is definitely for you. Sara and I will throw a dice to decide who gets to sit beside you.”
“Smart suggestion.” I smiled.
While the hall was still buzzing with conversation, we moved a little closer to the podium as my friends rolled the die.
Suddenly, the auditorium fell silent, and everyone turned to look at someone walking down the middle aisle.
Has Mr Damien arrived?
“Oh! It's that little Brit called Sophie. I wonder why everyone is looking at her like that,” Helen said.
“Maybe because you look awkward in your second-hand clothes. Let's continue what we're doing,” Sara added as she turned to face me, making Helen chuckle.
“Are you two not seeing what I'm seeing? I'm into fashion. That dress and handbag are both Black Label limited editions. How can that broke b***h even afford them?”
We were so distracted by her that we almost forgot she was trying to take my seat.
Thankfully, Helen and Sara quickly sat down and saved it for me. Did she want to be the centre of attention at this event? First, she made everyone look at her, and now she was trying to take my seat.
I watched as Sara and Helen mocked her without saying a word, quietly chuckling.
I could see the awkwardness in her eyes. Just then, John Smith, her crush, came to her rescue.
She deserved a low-class guy like him.
“Helen, Sara, and Leah, don't turn this public lecture into a circus or distract everyone from the reason we're here,” he said, his face full of warning. Then he turned to Sophie.
“Come and sit beside me. I saved a seat for you. I know you wouldn't want to miss a lecture like this.”
“Broke couple,” Helen muttered behind them.
Neither of them realized I was only a few steps behind. When they sat down, Smith smiled at Sophie.
“You look so beautiful today. Is that a limited-edition handbag? It matches your outfit perfectly.”
“To be honest, I don't know. It was a gift from someone,” Sophie replied.
But that didn't stop me from doing what I wanted.
I snatched the handbag from her. Since she wasn't expecting it, her fingers lost their grip on the handle.
“Big liar. Who would give you a handbag worth fifteen thousand dollars and a limited-edition gown? They're obviously cheap fakes, or maybe you picked them out of the trash after your coffee delivery job,” I said loudly so more people would hear her lies.
“What is your business? Be careful, Leah. Jealousy can give you permanent wrinkles.”
What hurt me most was that the people around us laughed at her words, and that made my anger boil.
I needed to ruin her day.
When I noticed a sharp pin on the floor near my foot, an idea came to me. She would regret challenging me in public. She should have kept quiet.
I grabbed her gown by the shoulders, yanked her to her feet with all my strength, and shoved her toward the pin. She reacted quickly and threw out her right hand, letting it hit the pin instead of her face.
“You little b***h! How dare you carry a fake handbag and talk back to me?”
Her handbag was still in my hand, and I threw it at her.
I wanted to make sure she missed this lecture. As I was about to press her injured hand against the pin, the auditorium doors burst open.
“Stop!”
A cold masculine voice stopped my leg in midair.
It was Mr Damien.
Everyone turned, and his arrival silenced the entire hall. The sound of his shoes echoed through the building as he walked toward us.
Sophie turned to look at him, and her eyes never left him as he approached.
I thought he was walking toward me.
Instead, he stretched out his right hand to Sophie and helped her to her feet.
They stared into each other's eyes for what felt like forever.
Why were they looking at each other like that?
It was as though they already knew each other.
Did he want to kiss her?
