Celine Daemon’s POV
The sun rose the next day as I prepared for a busy school day. I put on my academy uniform: a black denim skirt that reached my knees, a white shirt, and a black tie. At exactly seven in the morning, the academy bus was waiting for me, even though the girls' dormitory was close enough to walk. But, of course, this was the idea of that towering, insufferable Black.
After finishing my lecture on the Law of Light and Darkness Balance, which stated: “Every werewolf must maintain an inner balance between light and dark energies. A werewolf who loses this balance risks madness and transforming into a savage creature. Regular ‘Balance Restoration’ rituals are conducted to maintain inner stability for the pack.” It was a challenging rule, like all the others. I sighed with relief when the class finally ended.
During the break, I noticed Mrs. Cooper, who was in charge of teaching the laws of the Moon Goddess and our pack. She was one of my favorites.
“Celine, you’re the student I wanted to see. How are your summer training sessions going?” she asked.
“I’m preparing, Mrs. Cooper. There’s only a little time left until the midterm exams, and then the summer training begins,” I replied.
Mrs. Cooper smiled, but then she began discussing a project that would significantly impact our midterm grades.
“It’s wonderful to hear that. I have a project in mind that will be exciting and beneficial for your grades. It involves a deeper analysis of the laws of the Moon Goddess and the power of moonlight. Are you ready to take on a partner?”
I agreed, hoping I’d get a diligent partner. But Mrs. Cooper had a surprise for me. “Excellent, I’ll pair you with Alpha Black—you may find this a challenging experience.”
My heart sank. Black as a partner? I was sure this had to be some kind of mistake, but Mrs. Cooper seemed confident in her decision.
“But... Mrs. Cooper, how am I supposed to get Alpha Black to work with me on this project?”
Mrs. Cooper looked resolute. “This is an academic project, and the teams have been assigned. Alpha Black is your partner, Celine, and remember that failing to complete the project will affect your grades! Additionally, you need to start participating in the academy’s newest activities, particularly some sports. You’ve been skipping out on them entirely!”
Each project usually included an instructor with a group of students for guided training and rule memorization. I expected everything—except a project with Alpha Black. And now, not only did I have to collaborate with him, but I also had to join some dull sports activities. I’ve never been an athletic person; running and exercise just aren’t for me.
“What? I have to join, too? I was planning to use that time for studying,” I muttered in frustration, trying to convince her that all I did was study.
Mrs. Cooper nodded firmly. “You’ll register for one of the activities and begin your project with Black. You have until the end of the midterm break.”
As I watched my teacher walk away, satisfied, I let out a long sigh. How on earth would I get Black to cooperate with me?
Just then, Claire, my friend, walked over and noticed my frustration. “Why the long face, diligent one?” she asked.
I sighed and replied weakly, “Guess who my partner is for Ms. Cooper’s project on the laws of the Moon Goddess and moonlight. It’s Alpha Black!”
Claire squealed with excitement, practically bouncing. “You lucky thing! Maybe this will lead to you and Black being together forever—it’s a great opportunity!”
I continued with a frown. “Or maybe it’s the end of my grades and everything else. He’s so strict.”
Feeling down, I went to sign up for soccer just to be involved in an academy activity, but unfortunately, the only spot left was in basketball.
Claire’s laughter echoed as she looked at me with a smirk. “You really have the worst luck, Celine! I mean, with your height barely reaching 155 cm, how will you manage basketball?”
She had a point. I was quite short and not exactly athletic, and basketball required taller, stronger players.
At that moment, cheers grew louder, and the girls gathered around excitedly. It was Jennifer, the academy’s beauty, registering for basketball. With her slender frame and stunning looks, she was the girl everyone admired, and every boy wanted to date. She, too, was signing up for basketball.
"She belongs to the Red Moon Pack and is the daughter of Alpha Daemos. She possesses a powerful aura and great strength. She’s learning here now because she sticks to Alpha Black like gum—she’s deeply in love with him and takes revenge on any girl who tries to get close to him.
I’ve always preferred to stay unnoticed and avoid crowded places, but this activity will be packed now that Genevere is here.
I wondered why Genevere didn’t sign up for soccer, where Alpha Black is surely the star player. But not a minute after Genevere walked in, her "hero" arrived. He entered slowly, his hands tucked in his pockets, wearing his signature leather jacket. He, too, signed up for basketball. Does this mean I'll be in the same activity with that colossal guy again?
Claire's voice broke my thoughts, teasing, "Looks like you're in for some fun, girl. There's Black, right in front of you—the very one you've been seeking and waiting for!"
I sighed, whispering in resignation, "This isn't good. Everything's just getting worse; not a single thing is going right."
Curious, Claire asked, "But why would he sign up for basketball instead of soccer? He's famous for his shooting skills; he’s the champion."
I was also intrigued, but I brushed it off. I couldn’t care less about Black or anyone else—my only concern is getting out of this nightmare.
Seeing Alpha Black here was my opportunity. I wanted to wait until everyone left and then approach him to discuss our project together and inform him that he’s my assigned partner. So, I waited for a while, watching Black make shot after shot on the basketball court. He’s tall and clearly skilled at the game. Just as I was about to head toward him, I noticed Professor Zach approaching Alpha Black, dressed in his own basketball attire."
