First Days Are Always The Worst
Chapter One. Freya’s POV. “Meet me here after school and by the moons Freya, if you make me wait for you for even a second, I’ll make you regret it.” I read Mom’s text over and over again to make sense of it. The location she had sent along with the text was of a fancy restaurant downtown, the kind of restaurant people like us could never get access to, so what the hell was she talking about? It’s been two months since I last saw her and I was really looking forward to seeing her again. The sudden zooming sound of a car that shot past me startled me and my phone instantly dropped from my hand into the puddle of water in front of me and before I could even react, the car splashed the dirty water from the road on me. My mouth hung open in shock as the laughter from the students in the car flew back to me. “Hey weirdo!” “Go back to the slums!” Their loud voices and wild gestures was all I could hear and see as the car sped past the large gates in front of us. “No! No! No!” I cried out loud as I quickly picked up my phone but it was too late, it had gone blank. I fought back the tears as I stared at it, I had worked so hard to pay for this. DrakenVille High was my worst nightmare, yet it was my dream come true. After Dad died and Mom started acting like I didn’t exist, I had to find a way to fend for myself, I got as many part time jobs as possible to be able to pay the rent and survive but on one of those random jobs, I stumbled on an opportunity organized by the Alpha and his Beta. I won a scholarship to the most prestigious high school in the entire world. DrakenVille High was built strictly for the elite kids, Alpha's sons and daughters, no omega has ever stepped foot on their grounds, until I came. The backlash was intense, students made my life a living hell and teachers openly showed their disdain for me but I couldn’t walk away, not when I knew this school on my resume would help me land a decent job for an omega after school. A shiver raced down my spine as I walked past the gates, clutching my bags tightly while the other students pulled up in luxurious cars. It was the first day of senior high and I could already feel my bones rattling. Not from the cold but because I knew what was waiting for me inside those classrooms. “You’ve got this Freya. Keep your head down and stay at the back of the class like you always do, this year won’t be any different.” I whispered to myself as a form of encouragement but my legs grew stiff with each step. The sound of an exotic sports car pulling up in front of the gates sent a wild jolt through me. I would recognize the sound of that engine anywhere! It had been ingrained into my mind in the most traumatic way possible. So on impulse, I did what my body had become accustomed to doing, I ran, as fast as my legs could carry me. I stuck close to the wall, pulled my hoodie over my head and tried to fade into the background, hoping no one would spot me and maybe, just maybe I would survive the day but mercy was something the Moon goddess had never shown me before. Just as I pulled open my locker, a large hand suddenly came down on it and forcefully slammed it shut. My finger was caught in between it and I screamed out loud in pain as the metal made brutal contact with my fragile finger. “I didn’t even think you would dare come back here until I perceived your stench. It makes the air in here unbreatheable.” A masculine voice growled beside me and the girls standing around giggled excitedly like watching me suffer was the most amusing thing in the entire world. Tears sprang to the corners of my eyes but I fought it back, I wanted to lash out, scream at them to just leave me alone for one day but I bite down hard on my tongue instead until I could taste my own blood. Talking back or resisting would only make it worse, so I swallowed hard and kept my head down as the tears blurred my vision of my shoes. “I don’t understand why the school just had to send a charity case here, I mean, they’re a lot more schools for your kind in the remote areas.” A more feminine voice came from behind me and I didn’t have to glance up to know who they were. Aaron and Sasha Lockwood, the nephew and niece of the Lycan king. “Look how dirty she is? Don’t you have soap inside the hole you crawled out from? Can’t you wash your uniform?” Sasha yelled as she shoved me back roughly. “This is not one of those cheap uniforms you treat like rags, if you can’t respect the school crest on this, then leave this school.” One of Sasha’s friends who were always somehow behind her, yelled. I winced as Sasha roughly grabbed my arm and almost screamed when her sharp nails scratched against my bare skin but I dare not speak a word because ever since I stepped into DrakenVille High, everyone had bullied me mercilessly. The teachers turned a blind eye to it and left me to suffer. “If you think I’ll let you tarnish our school with your omega filth then you’re in for a treat.” She grinned devilishly as she snapped her well manicured fingers and one of the students rushed forward with the bucket the cleaners used in cleaning the restrooms. Before I could even react, he poured the dirty toilet water all over me. Heartless laughter rang out from the students that had gathered as Aaron and Sasha smirked. “Toilet water suits you just well, doesn’t it?“ Sasha mocked, “you should come around, the maids in my house have enough of it to help you take a bath. Maybe it will wash away that stench from you.” I could hear their receding laughter as they walked down the hall while I stood there, soaked to the bones and dripping with a toilet paper stuck to my head. My stomach churned aggressively at the smell. The tears I had been fighting so hard to hold back violently shock through my entire body as it began to slid down my face. My throat stung and I could barely utter a word while the other students took photos and made videos. I tried to move but had barely taken a step when the doors opened and he walked in. The devil I feared more than anyone in DrakenVille. Rafe Nightwell, the Lycan Alpha’s only heir and captain of the football team. DrakenVille’s very own golden boy yet he was my worst nightmare. Making my life miserable had to run in his family, they enjoyed it so much that even Aaron and Sasha, his cousins took after him. But the moment I saw him, my fear overpowered my anger. I tried to hide, to run and stay as far away from him as possible because I knew without a doubt that Rafe was a hundred times worse than the entire school combined. “What’s wrong? Didn’t like my welcome back gift to you?” His silky smooth, yet intensely demonic voice filled my ears and a chill settled into my bones. I hated him! I hated even the sound of his voice but for some reason, my wolf stirred restlessly in a weird manner whenever he was close. Just like she had that night at the school’s party… when Rafe had drunkenly pressed his lips against mine.
