I stand in place, watching as Austin and William disappear through the front door. Neither bother to stop and look back. It’s like their backs are telling me that whatever we had has ended and I had no one to blame but myself for it.
This is for the best. I think inwardly, trying to ignore the stabbing pain in my chest. It’s because of them that my life has become a mess, and without them I can go back to my mundane existence.
