Seeing Maeve clenching her fists in anger, Zion changed his tune.
"There's a way to prove it to me. Marry this gentleman right here, right now!" He said, a cunning smirk playing on his lips. This man was not only dressed in designer clothes, but the car he drove was a limited edition... If he really married Maeve, could he, as her father, be treated poorly?
As for the Murphy family, they would have to accept his decision for Maya's sake, for now.
Hearing this, a profound glint flickered in Julius's narrow eyes.
'This future father-in-law, as despicable as he is, has some ideas... Marrying this little girl seemed quite interesting?'
Looking at Zion's face full of shrewd calculation, Maeve laughed in anger. "You think I wouldn't dare?"
"I bet you wouldn't! If you really register for marriage with this kid, not only will I never force you to do anything for anyone, but I will also..." Zion lowered his voice, leaning closer to Maeve, "Find the best doctor and the best medicine for your grandma, ensuring her a long life!"
"Fine! You said it; you better keep your word!" Maeve said through gritted teeth. The impulsive words had already been spoken; she didn't want to back down.
She silently rolled up the car window, shutting out everything outside, then turned around and smiled at Julius with a coquettish look. "Mister, look... you were stood up by your bride, and I ran away from my wedding. We're both down on our luck, so why don't we..."
Maeve closed her eyes tightly, and when she opened them again, her face was full of heroic sacrifice. "Why don't we seize the day and get married?"
Julius glanced at her, his eyes narrowed. "You mean to send you to the clerk's office? And taking me along for the ride?"
"Well, this is an efficient use of resources, isn't it?" Maeve giggled, unlocked her phone, and showed her bank account balance to Julius with a serious face. "Look, my total income is more than 8 grand a month. After I become a full-time employee next month, I will earn over 10 grand! If you agree to marry me, I will pay for your expenses. This much money is enough for the both of us, right?"
'This little thing is quite gutsy and resourceful.'
Julius glanced at the screen. The income information showed about seven or eight sporadic incomes, the largest being over 4,000 dollars, and the rest were three-digit figures.
"Are you sure you can support me?" he asked.
Maeve nodded repeatedly. "Absolutely, positively, definitely sure!"
"But you don't even know my name."
"Names are not important! As long as your name isn't Julius Murphy!" Maeve said, anxiously turning her head to look out the window. "Mister, as long as we can deal with my scum of a father, we can get a divorce anytime! All expenses paid by me..."
"I heard you say that your grandmother needs money for medical treatment?" Julius interrupted her.
The smile on Maeve's face disappeared instantly. She lowered her eyes and pursed her lips. "Yeah."
Seeing her sudden drop in mood, Julius's gaze on her face deepened with inquiry. Silence fell upon the car, a stark contrast to the impatient crowd outside.
Suddenly, the man's deep, magnetic voice, as pleasant as a melody, rang in Maeve's ears. "I happen to have my birth certificate with me today. Do you have yours?"
Maeve abruptly lifted her head, her eyes widening in surprise. She quickly removed her phone case and took out the ID stuck to it. "Only my ID, is that okay?"
This ID belonged to Maya. Maeve was worried that she would be too nervous at the wedding and expose her identity, so she carried Maya's ID with her just in case.
Julius took the ID and glanced at it. "What if I get retaliated against for kidnapping the Murphy family's bride?"
Maeve immediately patted her chest. "I'll pave the way for you!"
Julius raised an eyebrow at her playfully. "Alright, remember, you're paying for my expenses!"
"Yeah! I won't forget! Mister, you're the best! Bless you!" Maeve excitedly grabbed Julius's hand and showered him with compliments.
However, a cunning glint flashed across her clear eyes.
Anyway, the ID wasn't hers. After dealing with this, she would go back to being Maeve, and neither of them would interfere with the other.
'Hmph! Maya, don't be too grateful that I got you such a handsome husband!'
Julius pulled his hand back in disgust. "Sit tight, we're going to the clerk's office."
The original plan for the day was to hold the wedding ceremony first and then register for marriage. It seemed they were just taking a different route to the same destination.
