Terror coated my insides at the thought of being bound to Kael as long as I lived. He was bluffing. He had to be.
Gritting my teeth, I turned and smacked my hand against his chest. He grunted in pain, doubling over. I gasped when a searing agony shot through my chest as well.
He coughed, gripping my arm to steady himself. Then his knees gave out. My heart lurched in my throat, and before I realized what I was doing, my hands shot out to steady him.
He looked up at me, his face blank. But his crimson eyes shimmered with amusement.
Wait...
He was acting up on purpose.
Annoyed, I released him instantly. However, he effortlessly steadied himself and straightened.
"See? You do care about me after all," he whispered, his voice laced with mockery.
