My boyfriend, Stanley Lewis, and I had been long-distance for five years. And every single day, he'd call me to make himself satisfied.

When he hit his peak, Stanley would always drawl, still hungry for more,

"Ellie, I'm going crazy thinking about you..."

So I booked a plane ticket and flew home that same night, hiding myself quietly in his closet to surprise him.

But when the bedroom door swung open, Stanley carried my best friend, Zoey Adams, right onto our marital bed.

Zoey flipped around and straddled him, unbuttoning his shirt one by one as she purred, "Stanley, honey, that i***t Ellie has no clue we've been together for five whole years. It's getting boring. She's proposed to you ninety-nine times already. Why don't we give her a nice little surprise at our wedding next week?"

I clenched the engagement ring in my palm so tight my nails dug into my skin.

My mind went completely blank.

I watched as Stanley slid his hand under her skirt, his voice thick and lazy, "What's the rush? I had already shipped her off to the Nordics. Aren't you reassured yet?"

Through the wooden planks of the closet door, every filthy, disgusting sound boomed loud and clear in my ears.

Huddled in the dark, I clamped my hand over my mouth to muffle any sound, and my heart died right there.

Chapter 1
My boyfriend, Stanley Lewis, and I had been long-distance for five years. And every single day, he'd call me to make himself satisfied. When he hit his peak, Stanley would always drawl, still hungry for more, "Ellie, I'm going crazy thinking about you..." So I booked a plane ticket and flew home that same night, hiding myself quietly in his closet to surprise him. Why don't we give her a nice little surprise at our wedding next week?" I clenched the engagement ring in my palm so tight my nails dug into my skin. My mind went completely blank. I watched as Stanley slid his hand under her skirt, his voice thick and lazy, "What's the rush? I had already shipped her off to the Nordics. Aren't you reassured yet?" Through the wooden planks of the closet door, every filthy, disgusting sound boomed loud and clear in my ears. Huddled in the dark, I clamped my hand over my mouth to muffle any sound, and my heart died right there. The two of them were completely naked on my bed, kissing each other passionately. A hot tear crashed down hard onto my phone screen, which suddenly lit up with a text from Stanley. Stanley: Ellie, how about we skip the call today and do video instead? Zoey glanced at the message and let out a sharp, mocking snort. "Stanley, we usually just let her listen in when we f**k. You really got the guts to stream it live for her today?" Stanley had her underwear clamped between his teeth, and he grinned like the shameless bastard he was. "You wanna bet if she'll answer it?" Before I could even process what was happening, the video call popped up on my screen. My hand shook so bad I tapped the wrong place three times before I finally hit decline. This was the same man who'd once formed a human bridge over me in the earthquake rubble, shielding me under his body. This was the man who’d risked his own life to save mine. And the other? She was the woman who saved me single-handedly back in high school, when a delinquent girl tried to s***h my face open. And right here, right now, those two same people were going at it hot and heavy on the wedding bed I’d paid for with my own money. The sight hit me so hard I couldn’t process what I was seeing. By the time they’d gone through an entire box of condoms, I still couldn’t pull my scrambled brain back together. Stanley lit a post-s*x cigarette, and slowly turned his head to look right at this wardrobe where I was hiding. Our eyes locked. My heart seized up like a giant hand had wrapped around it and squeezed tight. The very next second, Stanley blew a perfect smoke ring, lifted an eyebrow, and smirked. "Ellie, are you some kind of p*****t who likes watching people? How much longer are you gonna hide in that closet?" Zoey’s face drained of all color on the bed, and she scrambled straight under the covers, terrified out of her wits. Three slow seconds ticked by. I stumbled awkwardly out of the wardrobe, my voice shaking so bad I could barely get the words out. "I-I… I just wanted to surprise you…" Stanley sat up unhurriedly, and blew a cloud of smoke right in my face. "Surprise? Your flight booking text got sent to my phone ages ago. What kind of surprise could you possibly have left?" He reached his hand down under Zoey’s skirt, fished out a damp fuzzy bunny tail, and tossed it straight at me. "Take notes. This is what a real surprise looks like." I’d proposed to him ninety-nine times, each time I came up with a brand new different way to do it. I’d done it all just to repay him for saving my life. But now? Every last bit of effort I’d poured into this had turned into a sick joke at my expense. "Why? Why… why would you two do this to me…" When he saw the confused, broken look on my face, Stanley answered in a cool, detached drawl, "Why? Ellie, you don’t actually think you can hog me all to yourself, do you? When did you get so selfish? Besides, Zoey was moaning the whole time every time I called you. Didn’t you really hear it?" So that’s what it was. Every single time he’d told me he missed me, his body had been pressed skin-to-skin against Zoey this whole time. My entire body shook uncontrollably, and my stomach twisted and churned so hard I was seconds from throwing up. Zoey grabbed my pajama, pulled it on slowly, a smug smirk tugging at her lips. "Ellie, didn't you always say you'd share anything with me? You're always so busy with work, I was just being nice and taking care of Stanley's needs for you. Aren't you supposed to thank me?" I shoved her away hard, then snatched up the nearby picture frame and hurled it straight at her. "Get out! Get the hell out of my face!" And the worst, most sickening irony? Inside the frame, the old photo of Stanley and me had been swapped out for one of Zoey in a bikini. Every single day, Stanley told me that when he missed me, he just looked at my picture. Turns out he was looking at this kind of picture all along. A sharp gasp ripped through the room. Stanley stepped in front of Zoey without a single second of hesitation. The frame crashed straight into his temple, and bright red blood immediately came gushing down his face. "Ellie, can't you stop acting like a raving lunatic? I never said I was dumping you. It's not my fault I'm not marrying you. Can't you even look in a mirror and see what your place is? "It's just a wedding between me and Zoey. As long as you keep the peace, what we have will never change." I snapped completely, grabbing every single thing I could get my hands on and flinging it at them one after another. "What we have? What do we have? You want me to be the other woman? Get out, both of you! You cheating scumbags, get the hell out of here!" The bedroom door slammed shut with a deafening, bone-rattling c***k. I stared at the bedroom, now a wreck of shattered wood and broken glass scattered across the floor. I wrenched the engagement ring I'd been clutching so tight my palm ached out of my hand, and hurled it straight out the window. Then, like something else was controlling my body, I picked up a tiny shard of broken glass. Just like I'd done when I was little, numb and completely empty, I held it to my wrist and drew it down.
