Chapter One- Rising from the Ashes
Skylla's POV
I took one meek step out of the hidden door and all I can see is ashes and embers. The home I once lived in is gone, burnt to nothing but rubble and a few fallen eaves. Tears threaten to leave my eyes, but I know I have to stay strong for there are people to be taken care of. A couple of hours ago my pack, The Nightwalkers, was attacked by rogue wolves. My father, Arnold the Alpha of our great pack, ordered me to get the children, elderly, and pregnant mothers to the hidden bunker behind the pack house. My mother, Sarah, decided to fight along side my father since it's her duty as Luna to help protect the pack. My parents have always been strong, loyal leaders to our pack and have not ever thought twice about doing the right thing for their people.
"Sydney," I mindlink an Omega I know to still be in the bunker, " please make sure to keep everyone down there until I say otherwise."
"Yes ma'am." Sydney replies.
I started walking further to can see if I can find my parents, because if I find them then I know everything will be okay. My eyes scan the wreckage, but to my dismay there are no living creatures in sight. Bodies litter the ground, and I gulp back a sob. I keep walking until I reach the front of the pack house only to see my parents lifeless bodies. I run to them and stumble to my knees as tears start to flow freely down my face. I pick up my mother's head and lay it in my lap. Her once beautiful red hair now matted with blood. I reach over and grab my fathers hand, now cold and stiff. My heart is broken and my world is ruined. The two people I love most in this world are now dead, leaving me to guide the rest of our people by myself. Sobs wrack my body and I can't help but cry out. I cry for my loss and for the remainder of my pack, for they lost the greatest leaders we have ever had. Our home is gone, our people dead, our lives are never going to be the same. Suddenly I hear a malicious growl and turn to see two wolves stalking towards me. I know I don't have time to shift into my wolf so I gently put my mothers head back down and take a fighting stance.
I let my hands turn into claws and let out a threatening growl, for I am the new leader and won't let these rogues take anymore lives than they already have. I watch as they start to circle me. I'm ready to shed their blood, to get revenge for my pack and parents. One of the wolves, the larger of the two, lunges at me and I lean back and grab his shoulders using all my strength. I kick him in the stomach and send him flying. The next wolf, a smaller brown female starts to charge at me, but I jump up and land on her back. I reach one clawed hand around and rip out her throat. The wolf falls to the ground and I hear the first wolf running towards me. He jumps on me before I can act, I try to squirm from underneath him and as I am almost free he bites on my left thigh causing me to scream. I quickly sit up then take my clawed hands and sink them into his eyes. He releases me and starts to swat at me blindly. I stand up and grit my teeth as I shift my weight off my wounded leg. I pounce on the wolf and take him to the ground. I wrap my arms around the large wolfe's neck and squeeze as hard as I can. It takes a minute or two but I finally feel the life of this struggling wolf drain from his body.
I wait a moment to listen for his heartbeat, but thankfully i don't hear it. I get up and quickly walk around the rest of the pack house to see if anymore rogues come out to attack me. More dead bodies are littering the ground as I walk back to the bunker. I have to get the rest of my people out of here before any more rogues come to attack us. We have nothing left here so I will take them to my aunts pack which is about 80 miles to the east. At least we will be safe there. I will protect my people and lead them to the best of my ability.
