Aria’s pov “Run away!,” my inner voice screamed in my head. I stood at the window looking out into the field. That had been on my mind for days— it was my only escape from this terrifying daydream I call home. The pack wasn’t my safe place. They had turned my life into a nightmare. I had been humiliated by my mate, and I’d finally realised— there was nothing left for me here. As tears rolled down my cheeks, I rushed to my corner, grabbing the only bag I had— a small sack made of animal skin. I packed my clothes before my parents would notice. Sara had made it her mission to destroy me . She swore I’d never know peace. She traced my footsteps, watched my every move like an eagle circling its prey. I knew she hated me — especially after she found out I was mated to her fiancé. I still remember her burning stare the day of the mate ceremony. I knew my presence threatened her—because deep down, she feared Kael might return to me. I didn’t care if she wanted him to herself —I wanted to escape. She had been rumored to have bound herself with Kael using a magical spell on him. They weren’t mates ,but their bond seemed like one. Her skin was pale as snow, her long black hair flowed like silk, and her icy blue eyes gave off a coldness that chilled my bones. Some claimed she was a god, while others worshiped the ground she stepped on. Staying back and living among this miserable pack would have killed me slowly— I was despised. Sara had threatened never to see me in gatherings. She once dragged me by hair and slammed me into a tree. My back ached from the pain. She had her friends with her and they punched my face. “Flee from us, I never want to see your face loser,” she threatened, and they walked away after they made mockery of me. I wasn’t surprised. She had given me cold stares and I knew an attack would come someday. But that was then. I looked up at the full moon and admired its beauty. But it had no effect on me. My wolf was still silent. Anger rose inside me. “I will make Kael regret humiliating me. "I will fight him and humiliate him in public— just like he did to me,” I thought. I wasn’t weak anymore. I threw my animal–skinned bag across my back and stepped into the woods. It was cold. A thick fog covered the path ahead. I could barely see, but the moon guided me— it shined down at me. The trees stood tall and scary. I heard no sound —just my footsteps and heartbeats. I had no direction …only my thoughts — leave the pack, start again, freedom. Fear gripped me, but I didn’t stop. Loneliness wrapped itself around me. I had never been out in the woods alone at night. But I had to be brave —for myself, I had to fight back. Suddenly, I heard wild sounds. Wolves were out hunting. I quickly hid at the bark of a tall tree … taking shade not to be seen. “Please moon goddess, don’t let them find me,” I prayed. I knew the consequences I would face if I got caught. They would assume I’d been a secret spy and severe punishments would follow. I depended on the moon goddess for safety. She is a sacred spirit. Mother of all werewolves— a divine being of light. She balances and watches over us from the heavens. She is life and creates the bond between mates. We believe she guides and protects us, especially in pain or loss. She does not walk among mortals but appears in dreams. She is both fierce and gentle. Some said she sends dreams to those chosen—like a warning or prophecy. I returned my focus to the danger at hand. I lowered my body and fought my trembling hands. Luckily they didn’t hunt in my direction … they drifted. I held my breath, covering my lips. I didn’t dare move. When the wolves were gone. I got up and picked on my heels. I ran as fast as I could before I was found by someone. I had no map, no directions, but I didn’t give up. I didn’t stop until my lungs begged for air. I leaned against a tree and gasped for air. My legs trembled. My throat was dry— I needed water. I started the journey again. I moved slowly— one step at a time. The deeper I went into the woods, the darker it became. My blood went cold— fear gripped my soul. My lips trembled and my body numbed. I walked slowly, counting my steps, too scared of what I’d see. Then came a slight noise. I picked up another race. Soon, I tripped on a stone and fell to the ground—hitting my head on a fallen log. I felt a very sharp pain in my head. I didn’t scream—I counted but couldn’t. I endured the pain and struggled to stand. But, I felt dizzy. I slowly drifted away. I collapsed. “She will take time to heal. "The wound is deep,” I heard a woman’s voice. It was unfamiliar, soft and mature. She was speaking to someone—a man. “Awch,” I gasped. My eyes were opened. I forced myself to sit up, but my head banged. I reached up and felt a thick cloth wrapped around my scalp. “Where am I?” I asked, confused… my vision adjusted. I last saw myself in the woods but now was surrounded by strangers staring down at me . I saw an old lady approaching me smiling. “Oh are you awake,” she asked before she sat at my bedside “My name is Tera. "We found you in the woods,” She explained. “I’m happy you are okay now,” she added. “Where am I,” I asked again, looking into her deep ocean-blue eyes. “You’ll find out soon. "Rest first,” she replied, standing up and walking away. I was fed well and taken good care of. I drank the herbs Tera gave me and in no time, I was healed. I was accepted, fed and clothed by these people. They showed me love that my pack never did. I was brought in as a stranger and taken care of like their blood. I felt happy again. I lived and ate with rogues. At first, I was scared. Stories had it that rogues were dangerous. They were lone wolves. But they welcomed me. They showed me kindness. They healed my wounds, encouraged me to live again, and I will fight with them as my family. They were the opposite of my pack. Tera treated me like a daughter. She had lost her only child to war. It made her drift away from her pack. The pain affected her so much—she attempted to take her own life. She was exiled by her own pack after the death of her mate. For years she had wandered in loneliness. Until she was found and healed by a rogue, Zarab. She knew pain. She knew mine. She promised to stand by me after I shared my story with her. She cried with me . I tried holding back my tears but I couldn’t. I remembered how Kael humiliated me— looked down on me. Called me weak and made me feel like I didn’t matter. Her encouragement was all I needed. It made me strong and also gave me hope. I felt new and determined— I had a goal. “You must be careful,” Tera warned, holding my hand tightly. “They will come after you”. “Who?” I asked. My heart skipped. “I don’t know… that was how the vision came to me” she replied, looking straight at me. I nodded in response. I was too scared to know the truth. Night came and it was calm. The weather was favorable—cold and quiet. I slept and saw myself fighting. I had strength— it ran through my veins. I was strong and led an army of men. I was known to be powerful. I woke up… it was a dream— a prophecy. A prophecy I will fulfil.
