Aria’s pov
Just like the speed of light, I ran as fast as I could. My bones got weaker, but my mind was too focused to have noticed. The heavy wind came at me and I struggled to breathe through the thick air— it felt like I was being pushed back by the wind as I moved forward.
I needed to escape. I needed to be alive— my life journey can’t end now. I knew I was not strong, but the strong wouldn’t catch up with me.
I was determined to run away from the face-masked men. At first, they were unknown to me until I saw their symbol. A symbol that remains marked in my memory.
I heard the horse steps approach me and I knew they were closer to me. But the knowledge of what they would do to me if caught kept me going. I ran for a life I wished I had lost after my mate rejected me.
“Don’t let her escape!” I heard one of them yell. And with that, I hastened my steps.
As I ran faster… the wind became stronger and my strength weaker. I tried gasping for air as it was the only option I had to remain alive.
Earlier that day, the forest looked magical as rays of light penetrated through the thick leaves that formed a canopy covering the sky. It was a sunny afternoon and a beautiful day. I had worn a simple brown gown and headed into the forest for mushrooms.
I hummed to myself as I walked. My voice always calmed me. Surrounded by weeds and wildflowers, I felt like a princess lost in nature . I traced my finger tips on the flowers and allowed myself to be free. Finally I approached a tree with mushrooms growing near the root.
“Poisonous” I murmured, drooping the brown coated mushroom mixed with white dots I had picked. As I bent to pick the healthy mushrooms, I felt the rays of sunlight reflect on my skin and it glowed.
I had finally healed. It was a struggle but I made it out. The pain was still there but I had survived.
Suddenly I heard sounds, similar sounds that I never expected— a neigh .
I was alone in the forest and had always been safe…especially for the rogues who lived nearby. But hearing the hoof beats of horses made me confused. I was concerned—there was no warning, no signs of danger. Why were their riders here?
I hid behind a tall tree and stood still to hide my identity—I peeped. I realised the unknown men in scary masks… I gasped. Tightly covering my lips with my hands.
They weren’t identified by their looks… but their shields did and I recognized them — the blood fang pack.
Tera was right, I was in trouble.
And instantly, I ran— I wasn’t safe. I threw my woven basket, half-filled with mushrooms to the ground… my life mattered most. I needed no distractions.
This wasn’t my first time in these woods. I knew the paths. I bent under logs and jumped over the small ones. I was good at running— I had trained myself.
I escaped their sight and hid inside an abandoned cave. It was quiet and dark— I only heard my heartbeat. I felt my skin inch from the rush. I parted my lips—I was close to dying.
I woke up and the forest looked dark. I searched and they were gone. I immediately stood up, dusted off my dress and walked towards home.
From a distance, smokes rose from our hideout— my home.
I knew my family was in trouble… I had to save them, so I ran forward.
As I got closer —I froze, and watched fire burn down the house I was treated and welcomed in. The place that gave me hope.
“There she is! ” a voice shouted. Two men approached me but I couldn’t move. My legs betrayed me— I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t run…I wasn’t feeling them any longer.
They forcefully dragged me by my hair and I screamed out of pain. My clothes were torn and mixed with dust as they dragged me on the rocky ground—I felt my skin scrape. I was pushed forward and I fell hard on the ground.
A wooden bucket filled with water was poured on me. I gasped for breath— it was cold. My hair lapped on my skin, my body shivered in the cold. I looked up slowly as I saw one of them unmasking their face.
It was her— Sara.
I saw the smirk on her face. She smiled with her upper teeth while approaching me—it was a wicked one. It was obvious she loved the state I was in. I never imagined she would stoop low in harming others just to find me. I had always known she was ruthless, but this was beyond it.
“I found you,” she said, squatting and looking down on me as I laid helpless.
“Hold her up!,” she commended and two men held me by their hands and forced me to kneel . It felt a sharp pain as she punched me across my face.
“I did nothing to deserve this,” I thought.
My vision blurred as I received countless punches to my stomach. I tasted blood as they escaped my lips.
When she got satisfied. I was tied on top of a horse and was taken away.
“Am I cursed? Why do the ones I love always suffer—people who treated me like their own blood? Why is my life full of pain? I thought it was all over. I have failed again,” I thought as tears streamed down my cheeks.
We rode through the dark forest— the day had gone dark. I felt my blood stir—heat spread through my chest. My skin tingled— white fur sprouted out.
The full moon rose—I transformed. My wolf finally broke free. Her howl filled the air.
My strength came back to me. I tore out from the moving horse and ran far from eye reach.
For the first time in years, my wolf finally howled— it was no longer silent.
My senses sharpened. I saw clearly in the dark—the trees very far from me. My sense of smell increased. I perceived the scent of earth—leaves and animals nearby.
I didn’t stop running. The scents of my attackers faded. I knew I had left them behind.
But then,I lost control and stumbled on a sharp wooden post cut. My vision blurred and I laid helpless watching myself bleed to death.
