Equality.. " Men and Women are not equal " - she was always told . And similarly the occupations , colours , clothing , householdchores , behaviours , emotions , expressions , demeanor everything was categorized as per the gender norms ... It always confused her that the traits that are human based may vary from person to person, what role does it have in the person's gender ? It's the way she has seen people learn and grow that specifies different genders . Why does her neighbour assure his son " Take care of your sister .... we'll be back by 7 " while his son is just 6 and his daughter's 8 . Nia thought to herself " We've somehow managed to put the stamp over the fame as weaker than the male ! " The jogged in her memory ... it was the day she turned 10 It was her birthday and the very same day she got her first periods ... she didn't know a thing about it . She was terrified looking at those blood stains on frock she was wearing . She knew it was blood . " But , why is it coming out of me ? " - she said to herself . Just as her mom entered Nia informed her everything and her mom tried to console her saying - " It's a women problem ... we women are cursed and that's why we bleed once a month this way ... and it's one of the reasons why we women are weak .... you'll be impure for the rest of the 10 days ... don't dare to touch things without my permission " And that's what made Nia uncomfortable... she wanted to know the facts and the biological reasons behind it ... and ... Vola ! she scanned the books , surfed over web pages and had almost all the basic knowledge of sciences behind chums she wanted . A month later there was an interschool campaign of planting trees where Nia was representing her school .. After reaching home " Ma , the had a debate there and I stood 2nd .. and I was honored with this school kit " " Congrats betu ! " " I wish I'd come first ... the prize was a school kit along with a cricket batb" " Why would you want a cricket bat .... ohh!! lemme guess ... you were going to gift it to your brother na ?? " "No " - Nia Screamed The question was still in " Why do women pull women down ? Can we not just normalize this by giving the right information , boosting confidence into our daughters ? Accepting the fact that the norms that our parents were told has almost no logic ... it just adds the pain... why do they not think that a female can share her period Talk with a male in the family and she can play whatever she wants "
