The Mate Bond

Chapter Two Andrea I was told afterward that as I started to go toward the castle, the girls were calling me and asking what was going on, but I kept ignoring them. The only thing I was listening to was Hazel telling me to go forward. Luckily, Hazel didn’t take me to the front door. Instead, she took me to the back door that was open. I walked through, not even realizing the girls were following me still. I was still lucky as there was no one around. It seemed to be a maid's area where they did laundry, because there were clothes and sheets everywhere. The entire room was dark, but my night vision still helped me see, and find the door to continue further into the castle. Once I got through the next door, it was bright and lit up to a corridor with rooms on the side. I could hear some people in the rooms, but didn’t bother. Lydia told me later that they were still doing everything they could to get my attention, but at this point Yvette explained to them that it was most likely the bond and there was nothing they could do. Walking through the castle was almost like a blur. I couldn’t quite process everything. Normally I would’ve stared in awe at the castle I was in, but I had a mission. Eventually some of the maids saw us and started to panic, but Lydia explained to them what was happening. The stories about wolves mating with vampires had spread to them as well, and they started to get curious to see where I would end up. I made it to a door where I knew my mate was behind. I felt it. There was no doubt in my mind. I heard a maid whisper “But this can’t be you know who’s in there.” Lydia told me later the maid was about to stop me when I reached out still and opened the door. There on the bed was a vampire with his fangs out. He was on his knees behind a woman that he was holding out. His fangs had just been removed from her neck, which was evident but the blood smeared on her neck, and the red on his fangs. I saw him lick his lips and he made eye contact with me. Eyes as red as the blood on his teeth, that were pulled into a squint that was directed toward me. He looked around at the group that had just infiltrated his feeding session and tossed the girl aside on the bed. She didn’t even protest or move. Then without warning he was in front of me. I had to move my neck up to see his face. He was tall. So very tall. His silver hair had fallen in front of his eyes slightly, but he didn’t move them. He wasn’t old though, he looked young. I didn’t even know vampires could have silver hair while young. Then again who knew how old he really was? He glared at us as the maids started to apologize for barging in, but before he could say anything I just simply said the words. “Mate.” His red eyes like daggers, moved towards me. I saw his sharp jawline tighten even more, letting me know he was gritting his teeth as he spat “What?” His voice was deep and low. Yet still boomed through the room, like the bass from a dark ballad. I swallowed, not realizing that the first time I met my mate, I would be scared. But I was. The man before me was not who I ever imagined. He was dark and brooding, and held a presence to him that made my knees weak. I couldn’t tell if it was the mate bond that made me nervous, or just him as a person. Maybe both. I couldn’t deny that he was handsome. Even with his hair messy, and his shirt disheveled, most likely from feeding. The idea of him doing anything with that woman stung my heart a bit, which was something I didn’t think would happen. Still, I stood straighter and clearly said. “I believe you’re my mate.” He let out a small almost undetectable laugh from his nose. “Well I believe you’re wrong.” He said. Hazel was assuring me that we were not wrong, and I didn’t need her to tell me that. The way I was feeling about him as I looked at him. I was not wrong. “No, I’m not. I’m telling you you’re my mate. My name is Andrea, and I know it’s unbelievable, but it happened to this one…” Without being able to finish my sentence, I felt my body fly to the wall, and a tight grip on my neck. He had used his vampire speed to push me up against the wall, and had his hand wrapped around my neck. His body was pressed against mine as he whispered into my ear. “And I’m telling you, you’re wrong.” Was my mate actually trying to kill me?! Would he actually hurt me?! This was not what I had imagined. He was supposed to protect me. Not do this. I couldn’t help but start to cry as I tried to breathe. As soon as the tears started to fall, he loosened his grip, and I let in a breath. He dropped his hands from me and took a step back. “You don’t even know who I am do you?” I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to answer, but I didn’t want to. I was terrified of what he would do next. After a moment of silence he spoke, “I’m the Vampire King of this coven. I am not destined to be with a mutt. Do you understand? So do whatever you have to do to get this stupid fantasy out of your head, and leave my castle.” Vampire King? Oh no, not only was my mate a vampire, but he was the king of this coven. Great, just great. I needed to reject him then, and get him to reject me. The Moon Goddess HAD to have made a mistake, and I was going to have a second-chance mate, there was no other option. I sighed, ready to tell him that I was going to reject him. When I heard Hazel tell me, “Wait. Give him time. Don’t do it just yet. He needs time.” I wasn’t sure why she wanted to give HIM time. I would’ve thought she would’ve jumped at the chance to get rid of this ridiculous bond with him. But the more I thought about rejecting him the louder and more adamant she got. “No Andrea. He’s just in shock, you have to give him a chance to show you why the Moon Goddess chose him.” I just sighed once more and looked back at him. “Okay I’ll leave now. I’m sorry to disturb you during this.” I gestured to the girl on the bed who was sitting up at this point and staring with a confused look. My mate nodded and looked at the maids, “Please show Andrea and the rest of the mutts out.” I know it was not the interaction I was looking for, but hearing him say my name for the first time made my heart flutter. It made my mate bond feel just a tad stronger. I took one last look at him as the maids ushered us out. His red eyes still locked on mine, as I exited the room. Would I actually ever love him? The better question is, can I get him to love me?
