Tempest reared back on her hind legs and Mina almost fell out of the saddle. She wrapped her arms around the horse’s neck and prepared to die.
An unearthly roar split the air, and Mina watched in awe as Copper dropped from the sky. His talons raked along the sand wyrm’s fleshy body, rending deep wounds that quickly filled with black blood.
The creature issued a horrendous shriek that made Mina think her eardrums were going to burst. Copper dug his talons into the wyrm’s body and flapped his wings, pulling the behemoth away from Mina and her mount.
