Caden wasn’t very familiar with the castle’s interior, especially in the dark. He described the door he’d seen previously, and Bast guided him through the halls. They encountered a few soldiers making their rounds and had to duck into a darkened doorway to avoid being seen. After they guards passed, they continued onward until they reached an empty hall.
“This is it,” Caden said. “It’s the door at the end.”
“I know this place,” Bast replied. “I think it is where my transformation happened.”
“You’re not sure?”
“I was in and out of consciousness, but this area feels familiar. I don’t have any memory of it before that point.”
Caden strode to the door and tried the handle, but just as it had been before, it was locked.
“You don’t remember anything about a key, do you?”
“No.”
