Chapter 1
“Ahhh!” The scream tore through the quiet apartment. Heavy footsteps followed. A door slammed open. Kylie ran out of her room, her heart racing as she rushed down the hallway. She didn’t even think. She just moved. “Carie!” she yelled. She burst into the room. Carie sat on the bed. Still. Frozen. Her eyes were locked on her phone like she was staring at a ghost. “Carie, what is it?” Kylie shouted, panic rising in her chest. She didn’t even notice the face mask still drying on her cheeks. She didn’t care. All she could see was her best friend sitting there, looking like her soul had left her body. Carie didn’t answer. Her mouth was open. Her hands were shaking. Slowly, she turned and looked at Kylie. Then she stretched out her hand and passed her the phone. Kylie frowned and took it. She read the message once. Then twice. Her eyes widened. Her mouth dropped open. “Recent order — 50,000 pieces.” “Fifty thousand?” Kylie screamed, then quickly covered her mouth with both hands. “Fifty thousand pieces?!” She looked at Carie like she was afraid she would disappear. “Do you know what this means?” Kylie shouted, bouncing on her feet. “This means we don’t have to close Mi’ Amores! We’re saved!” She threw her arms around Carie and hugged her tightly. Carie still couldn’t move. Five years. Five long years of struggling. Sleepless nights. Failed deals. Loans. Tears. And last night marked the end for them. Kylie and Carie had made that last painful decision to close down the business. The sat at the rooftop of the building, with many empty bottles. “Mi Amore,”Kylie shouted to the empty space. Her voice echoed back. “We really did our best!” Carie eyes were clouded with tears, she sat at a floor, gulping down alcohol. “Say your goodbyes,”Kylie urged as she dragged Carie off the floor. Carie staggered a bit before she spoke out. “Mi amore!” She screamed. “Forgive me! I’m sorry that your owner was nothing but a loser.” Her voice shook in tears. Kylie shoulders dropped. Pain filled her eyes. “Forgive me!” Carie shouted. “I couldn’t revive you.” Tears dropped from Kylie eyes. She pulled Carie into a deep hug as both of them broke down in tears. That night, they had finally given up. They drank to stupor. They said goodbye to their dream. And now this. The next morning, they were waking up to a 50,000 orders. Something they had never experienced from the very beginning. Tears filled Carie’s eyes. “They… they really want our chocolates?” she whispered softly. “Yes!” Kylie shook her shoulders gently. “Wake up! This is real!” Carie swallowed hard. “Please hit me. I need to know this isn’t a dream.” Kylie laughed and pinched her hard. “Ouch!” Carie screamed. Then she laughed. Then she cried. Then she jumped up and hugged Kylie again. “Mi’ Amores is saved!” they both shouted, laughing and spinning around the room. Suddenly, Carie stopped. “The meeting,” she said. “It’s in one hour.” Kylie gasped. “What are you still standing there for?” They both ran. Carie dashed into the bathroom. “Hurry up!” Kylie yelled after her. Thirty minutes later, Carie rushed out, dressed neatly, her hair tied back, her heart beating fast. “Wait!” Kylie called. She ran over and blew Carie a kiss. “Lucky charm,” she said with a grin. Carie caught it playfully. “I’ll need all the luck I can get.” Then she ran out. The building was huge. Glass everywhere. Carie stared in awe as she stepped inside. She felt small. But hopeful. At the reception desk, she smiled nervously. “I’m here to see Mr. Liam Salvador.” The receptionist typed for a moment. “I’m sorry, ma’am. He’s not here.” Carie’s shoulders dropped. “But we have a meeting.” “Oh. He’s at Micheals Hotel. Room six-zero-nine.” Carie hesitated. A hotel? She bit her lip. But this deal could save everything. She nodded, took the address, and left. It was almost noon when she arrived. Room 609. The room was quiet. Too quiet. She sat beside the bed, her hands twisting together. Minutes passed. Then hours. Time dragged on. Carie saw a laid out tray of food. The aroma filled the room. She had tried her best to ignore it but then— Her stomach growled. The food smelled too good. She waited. Then waited more. Finally, she gave in. She had a little taste of it. Her eyes widened. It taste so good. She dived in quickly and ate more. She poured herself a glass of wine as she gulped in down. Carie fell on the bed with full satisfaction. She laughed to herself, rubbing off her stomach. But then suddenly, her head spun. Her body felt hot. Too hot. Her skin burned. She shifted on the bed, breathing faster. She rolled uncomfortably. Something was wrong. Suddenly she head beeping sounds from the door passkey. She stood up, dizzy, and staggered towards the door. The door pulled open. She froze! Liam stood there. Tall. Broad shoulders. Sharp jaw. Dark eyes that seemed to see everything. Well-dressed. Confident. Dangerous. The most handsome man she had ever seen. “Carie Williams?” he asked surprised and shocked. She smiled. A slow, careless smile. “What are you doing here?” He raised his voice in shock. “How did you get in?” Carie staggered and almost fell off. “You made me wait,” she said softly, pouting like a child. Liam frowned. “Are you drunk?” She laughed. Then suddenly grabbed his collar. Pulled him inside. The door slammed shut. She pushed him against the wall. Liam froze. She hung his hands above his head pinning them to the wall. Liam eyes widened. All this while, he had seen women threw themselves at him but hers was different. Her confidence was on a whole different level. She pressed her body against his. Her body was warm. Too warm. She leaned closer. “I feel hot,” she whispered. Her lips brushed his. Liam pulled back slightly. “What are you—” She didn’t let him finish, kissed him again. Deeper this time. She took his lips like she owned it. Harder. Desperate. This time, he didn’t stop her. His hands found her waist. He kissed her deeply. His body was on fire. She was just a stranger but yet he wanted her badly. He pulled her up, her legs hugged his waist tightly. Liam didn’t stop kissing her. His lips moved down to her neck. Kissing and sucking down. Carie moaned softly. Liam laid her down on his bed. He grabbed her shirt and tore them like a hungry lion. He needed to get in fast. He pressed in for a deeper kiss. The air between them burned. And everything began to fall apart.
