Chapter1
SYLVIA. I, Sylvia Earhart, was the wife of Jerome Earhart, the most successful young billionaire in the United States. Married for over six years, I had luxury at my fingertips and a pillar of people who worshiped me. I didn't want that, I never did. Even with the wealth and name given to me through my husband's status, I never saw myself as worthy enough to live this life. Most of the rich elites saw me as a gold digger and not good enough to be Jerome's wife. Even his family, especially his mother, opposed our union and did everything she could to change Jerome's mind, but our love was far stronger than a rock. I had lived a low-class life, had nothing to my name, and even had to work three jobs to pay my college tuition fees, but everything changed when I met Jerome, my knight in shining armor. He was a blessing in disguise and, at first, I wondered why he chose a woman far beneath his class. He is a man any woman would kill to have, and I saw myself lucky to have him. Today was Jerome's thirty-seventh birthday. In my black dress, I glanced around at the crowd of noble people in the state who had come far and near to celebrate with us. My home was a multi-billionaire mansion, built to harbor over a million guests and I stood proud, waiting for when the party would be over. “Oh dear, you look beautiful.” A voice said behind me. I turned to see Mrs. Agatha, the wife of the most successful lawyer in the States. “Thank you so much for coming.” I smiled, hugging her. She gently rubbed my back and released her grip, “Anything for a good heart like you. Jerome made the right decision in getting married to a good woman like you.” My cheeks burned. Mrs Agatha always had a way of showering praise on me whenever we crossed paths. “I am the one lucky to have him,” I responded. Mrs. Agatha shook her head, “You both are lucky to have each other, never allow anything to come between you both.” I smiled, speechless at her advice. “I will leave you to attend to your fellow guest.” She smiled and walked away. I glanced around, there was no sign of Jerome and I couldn't remember when I last saw him. Gently, I placed my glass of wine on a table and began to head towards the second living room. “Jerome,” I called out, scanning the large living room, but there was no sign of him. “Where is he?” I asked myself. I could feel my stomach rise with butterflies. I have good news! One that would make Jerome flip with joy. A few days ago, I found out that I was pregnant, and I decided to tell Jerome tonight, the perfect birthday gift he will ever wish for. I searched around, but there was no sign of him. I decided to call his phone. I dialed his number. It started to ring, but he didn't respond. “Strange,” I muttered, suddenly becoming worried. “Jerome.” “Jerome.” I began to walk up the stairs, heading towards our bedroom. “Jerome,” I called again, but still no reply. Confused, I walked further only to hear soft voices accompanied by laughter. Puzzled, I halted, wondering where the voices were coming from. I took a step forward and at once, it dawned on me that the voices were emitting out of our matrimonial room. One was the voice of Jerome, and the other was a woman's voice. “Jerome!” I rushed and before any of them could move, I flung the door open and my heart dropped. Right in front of me was Jerome in bed with Amy, my best friend, stark naked. I felt my breath seized, I was losing consciousness and the pain that pierced my heart was sharper than any pain I had ever felt before. “Jerome,” I muttered as hot tears blinded my eyes, my legs felt wobbly, and I held onto the wall for support. There was a look of disgust and hatred buried in his eyes. “How dare you barge into my room? Are you out of your mind?” He fired, his eyes burned with fury. Taken aback by his outburst, I staggered backward, unable to believe my ears. “Your room?” I managed to say, my throat suddenly became dry and a tear rolled down my face. “Your room or our matrimonial bed!” I yelled, unable to contain my anger at myself. Jerome got out of bed, he wasn't wearing anything. I watched him pick up his underwear, wore it, and turned to me. “You must be sick! Who owns this house? Who pays the bills? Huh? Tell me!” He roared. My head was spinning in twos. No! This isn't real. I must be hallucinating This isn't real! I shut my eyes tight and opened them, but what stared right back at me was nothing but reality. I turned to Amy who lay on the bed, there was an evil smirk on her face as she caressed her fingernails, her bosom visible, and she didn't make any effort to cover them. “How could you do this to me, Amy? I thought we were best friends.” I said, this time, my face was flooded with tears. Amy chuckled and scoffed. “Best friend?” She raised a brow. “Look at the way you sound so pathetic! You have always been the one having a good life and taking everything good away from me. Everything I have ever wanted was to have Jerome and, sorry to say, we have been in a secret relationship for two years. I am so glad that the cat is finally out of the bag.” Stunned, my gaze left her and rested on Jerome. “Two years? So, you two have been deceiving me for over two years?” “Amy.” I called, looking at my friend, “Is this the reason you begged me to talk to my husband about giving you a job in his company two years ago? Was this your plan, to ruin my home?” “Cut that crap!” Jerome fired, “What home? What home are you talking about? We have no home. Do you think that your sight alone pleases me? Take a good look at your appearance. You are not even my spec of a woman. I was just with you out of pity. I never for once loved you, Sylvia, all I wanted was to keep you because you possess wife traits, and I was out of luck getting a good girl and a puppet to control. But now that I have Amy, she is the best I ever searched for and craved in a woman, she isn't a boring hag like you, she gives me the satisfaction my young body needs and I don't regret one bit going into a relationship with her.” My heart shattered into pieces. I stood still, speechless. His words kept ringing nonstop and at a point, I flickered my eyes, hoping this was nothing but a nightmare. “You are lying Jerome, you loved me, we were in love before we got married. I have sacrificed so much for this marriage. I have loved you with everything in me these past six years, and now you are doing this to me?.” Saying this, I rushed towards bed to get to Amy, but Jerome was fast enough to stop me. He grabbed me by my hand, slapped me hard on my face, and pushed me on the floor. I screamed in pain as my nose hit the ground. I looked up, only to feel blood trickling down one of my nostrils. “Don't you ever think you can lay a finger on Amy! Don't! Who do you think you are? I am done with this lie called marriage. I can't pretend anymore!” I watched him walk towards the table, he pulled out a drawer and took out a piece of paper. “I have been keeping this for the perfect day. I knew it would come soon, but I did not know when. But you have given me the perfect time.” He tossed the papers at me. With trembling hands, I picked it up and my jaw dropped. “Divorce papers?” I shivered, and my world fell apart.
