Amaya stood awkwardly on the fringe of the dancefloor watching couples waltz by she kept her back to the curtain and she stood still trying to take in everything that had just happened to her minutes ago. She needed fresh air and she wanted to call her mom and confirm everything she had just been told. She was in emotional turmoil she couldn't be a queen she had just finished high school who goes from high school to the throne in a matter of days? She almost collapsed into hysterical laughter but she knew that would be frowned on in a place like this. She slowly scanned the room looking for an exit she just needed a minute to herself to process. Spotting an open door overlooking a garden she quietly made her way to the door and out of it. She took in her surroundings and then saw that there were benches sprinkled throughout the elaborate garden. She stopped at the first empty bench and she sat down and breathe a sigh of relief what a night. Quickly taking the cellphone out of her bag a gift her mother had insisted on giving her on her 18th birthday Amaya called the only number that was in the phone her mother.
The other line rang and rang and rang and then voicemail. She tried her mother's number again and she got the same result. She couldn't believe her mother wasn't answering her calls. Where could she have gone to? Did she know what was waiting for me at this ball? Why didn't she warn me? Amaya had so many questions and no answers and the one person she had trusted her whole life had suddenly disappeared. Amaya felt uneasy. For the first time in her life she was alone truly. That frightened her more than anything else if she didn't have her mother than who could she trust? Who would help her with things? Amaya put her phone back in her purse and just stared out at the garden. She was lost.
She didn't know how long she had been sitting there when she started to feel her heart racing and her skin heating up, she sniffed the air and her mouth watered. She got up like she was in a trance and followed the scent into the ballroom and she kept walking like a sleepwalker she had to find this scent it was pulling her forward, compelling her towards it. It led her to the very muscular back of a dark skin god whose loccs flowed down his back in thick luxurious elaborately styled plaits. All time stopped around her it seemed like an eternity before the person with the luxurious loccs turned around locking eyes with her and at the same time the word mate fell from each of their mouths.
Now that she had found the scent that had compelled her to her mate she was stunned and at a loss of what to do. He on the other hand seemed amused. "Would you like to dance my queen?" His voice made her faint. There seemed to be a heat fanning out from her stomach to her lady parts and she was certain that everyone could smell her heat. I want to die now Amaya thought. The dark skin god took her by her hand and lead her onto the dance floor. Amaya wasn't certain she could be dreaming this but she could've swore they were dancing on air, glancing down she saw that they were slightly elevated from the floor. In awe again she looked into her new found mates face and fell into his eyes. Amaya quickly broke eye contact and shook herself mentally. She was acting like a loon she thought. He must think her strange. For other than mate she hadn't said any other words to this stranger that she was instantly attracted to. How was this going to work out if she never found the words to speak.
Amaya cursed her shyness and she looked down at her feet as they waltzed across the floor. They waltzed right out into the elaborated garden and he sat her down on the bench she had just vacated. She was still dazed and out of it. If being close to your mate kept you incapacitated how did anyone manage to function in life?
"I guess I'll do the introductions since the wolf has got your tongue this evening." He joked trying to bring Amaya out of her head, she smiled and then again looked down at her feet. He must think me a complete i***t she thought. "I don't, but you do seem rather shy." He said in her head. She lifted her eyes to his eyes hoping for an explanation. "Telepathy between family members and mates are common especially amongst the high born, we practice it especially when we are amongst mixed company it gives us an edge over others." Amaya nodded her head. "I'm jonathan lakos by the way and you are?" "Amaya Arros," Amay said breathlessly. "I'm sorry johnathan this is all so new to me I knew that there were mates but I didn't know the mechanics of it all. The overwhelming powerful pull and the...." Amaya stopped and looked up at Johnathan suddenly, "Are you going to reject me?" She asked him. Jonathan looked off into the distance while rubbing the back of his neck.
