"Mr. Price, that's amazing!" As the butler finished speaking, the guests erupted in cheers.
"That's the Supreme Commander who, just three months ago, defeated the armies of ten nations—a million troops in one battle! They say he's even been promoted to Marshal!"
"Exactly! The fact that he's attending Mr. Price's birthday banquet shows how much respect Mr. Price commands!"
"Hahaha, you flatter me. I'm just lucky," Landon said, laughing so hard that even the lines on his face seemed to smooth out. Though his words were modest, his heart swelled with pride.
The Supreme Commander was coming—this was his chance to climb the social ladder. From now on, he would dominate all of Meriland.
The Price family's business could finally break into the capital market he had been dreaming of for years.
"Mr. Price, the Commander is about to arrive!" The butler, having just received the news, rushed over to report.
"Quick!" Landon immediately began anxiously directing the guests to form two neat rows to welcome the commander.
Soon, a tall and commanding figure appeared in the distance, and everyone bowed.
"Welcome, Commander... Wait!"
But the next moment, something felt off. The figure raised a hand, and a box flew directly into Landon's hands.
"Tanner Morgan, son of Gavin from the Morgan family, presents a grand gift to Landon Price on his birthday! Wishing the entire Price family a horrible death and an early dismemberment!"
The box popped open in front of Landon, revealing what appeared to be a birthday cake.
But as Landon looked closer, he realized the cake was only a thin layer of cream covering something far more gruesome: a bloodied human head.
Landon froze, staring in horror. He was holding the severed head of his son, Jaxon, whose lifeless eyes remained wide open in death.
"Ah! My son!" Landon let out a heart-wrenching scream, dropping the head to the ground in shock.
He immediately panicked, scrambling to pick it up again and clutching it tightly as he wailed. "Jaxon, my son! My son has been murdered!"
"What..." The guests were utterly stunned. They had come to welcome the Supreme Commander, and now Landon's son lay dead before them.
"It's Tanner!" someone suddenly gasped, their voice trembling. The crowd recognized the figure standing before them in horror.
"Tanner?" Landon's eyes turned bloodshot as he clutched Jaxon's head, slowly rising to his feet. He stared at Tanner in disbelief.
This was exactly Tanner, Gavin's son, who had fled in disgrace five years ago, jumping into a river to escape. He hadn't died—and now he had returned to kill Jaxon.
"Well, well!" Landon growled, his teeth grinding in fury as he locked his gaze on Tanner.
"Back then, your parents offended the wrong people. They deserved to die. I was merciful enough to spare their lives, and yet you killed my son? Tanner, you repay kindness with vengeance!"
"Is that so?" Tanner, dressed in civilian clothes instead of a military uniform, still radiated an aura of overwhelming authority and power.
Hearing Landon's words, he let out a cold laugh.
"Landon, the Morgan family treated you so well in the past. We lifted you from being an unemployed nobody to a core member of the Morgan Group. And yet, you colluded with the government to frame my family for treason? You didn't spare my parents because you were merciful; you just wanted to keep them alive to torture them! How is that kindness?"
"And the fifty-three members of the Morgan family, all slaughtered by your hand—including my underage sister and my pregnant wife..." his voice trembled as he continued.
Every time Tanner spoke of his beloved wife Rebecca, it was as if the unhealed wound in his heart was being torn open again, exposing unbearable pain.
Rebecca had been a kind and gentle soul, someone Tanner had known since childhood.
To others, gentleness might have been a quality, but to Tanner, Rebecca was the very definition of gentleness.
After graduating college, they got married, believing they would spend a lifetime of happiness together.
But Tanner could only watch helplessly as Rebecca, pregnant with their child, was captured by Landon's men. He had been powerless to stop it, and soon after, the news of her tragic death reached him.
"Landon." As the excruciating memories flooded his mind, Tanner's eyes burned with murderous intent. A surge of immense power erupted from his towering figure.
He clenched his fists and charged straight at Landon. "You will pay for the tragic deaths of my family!"
"How dare you!" Landon didn't move, but in an instant, over a dozen swift figures appeared behind him. They shouted at Tanner as they lunged toward him.
Landon had no idea how Tanner managed to kill Jaxon, but he wasn't the least bit worried that Tanner could touch him.
The bodyguards surrounding him were terrifyingly strong—ten times stronger than the ones Jaxon had relied on.
"He's overestimating himself," some of the guests murmured as they watched Landon's bodyguards spring into action. They all sighed, convinced that Tanner had reached the end of the road.
"Tanner's background is tragic—his entire family was slaughtered. Anyone would sympathize with him. But why not just live quietly? Why insist on seeking revenge and throwing his life away? He can't even get past the bodyguards."
"Exactly. Those bodyguards around Mr. Price are all incredibly fearsome. Especially the strongest one, Preston Price—he's Landon's younger brother and the assassins in Caridonia!"
"Yeah, I once saw him fight three crazed lions barehanded. He killed them all without a scratch on himself."
"Go to hell!" The so-called assassin, Preston, charged toward Tanner, his massive fist hurtling toward Tanner's head.
The other assassins followed close behind, brandishing cold weapons aimed at stabbing Tanner.
Everyone in the hall was certain Tanner was doomed. Even Landon smirked coldly.
'I am the richest man in Caridonia, worth billions, with over a thousand enforcers at my disposal—not to mention my military and government connections. Even if I killed your entire family, what can you possibly do?' Landon sneered.
He then said dismissively. "Ladies and gentlemen, he's just a little nobody. In a moment, I'll have him killed to avenge my son. I can't let him ruin the Commander's mood at this banquet. I—"
"Ah!" Before Landon could finish, his smirk froze. He watched in disbelief as Preston's powerful punch completely missed Tanner. Instead, Tanner countered with a single devastating punch to his chest.
Bang! Under Tanner's terrifying blow, Preston's entire body exploded into fragments, blood splattering across the hotel hall.
But Tanner didn't stop there. In a blur, he charged at the remaining assassins. One by one, they let out agonized screams before being reduced to chunks of flesh.
When the chaos ended, only Tanner stood in the center of the hall. Calm and unscathed, he glanced disdainfully at the crowd, who had just been so certain of his death. "Who else dares to challenge? Step forward!"
"God..." The guests stared in shock, their mouths hanging open in disbelief. "How could anyone be this powerful? Who would dare challenge him now?"
"How are you this strong?" Landon collapsed into a chair, his earlier arrogance completely gone.
Though he still had backup plans he believed could save him, none of them would arrive in time.
If Tanner wanted to kill him now, there was no escape. Panic set in. He had grand ambitions and couldn't die here, he thought.
"Tanner, calm down. I'll give you one million—no, ten million! I promise never to trouble you again! Let's negotiate—ah!"
Before Landon could finish, Tanner appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye. Without hesitation, he tore off one of Landon's arms and crushed it into pieces, blood splattering everywhere.
"Ah!" Landon screamed in agony, his entire body trembling. He realized Tanner was a madman, someone who dared to do anything. It seemed he was really going to die here today.
But Tanner didn't strike again.
Instead, he spoke coldly. "Landon, you're really stingy. Just ten million to buy your life? But don't worry, I'm not going to kill you right now. I remember that back then, it was you and a certain high-ranking government official who framed my family for treason. My family's revenge isn't just on you—it's on him too."
"So tell me." Tanner's expression darkened, his sharp gaze piercing into Landon. "Who is that person in the government?"
"You want revenge on him?" Landon's face turned even paler.
He looked more terrified than when Tanner had ripped off his arm. "Don't even think about it. That's someone you absolutely cannot afford to mess with!"
