Genevieve was instantly stunned.
She looked at Gideon, but his face was completely devoid of emotion as he said flatly, "Austin never told you about our family, did he?"
After a brief hesitation, Genevieve nodded.
She knew very little about the Hayes family. Austin rarely mentioned them, and the few scraps of information she had were from Amelia.
"He probably didn't dare to," Gideon sneered. "Austin's mother was my father's first love. While my mother was pregnant, she seduced my father and got pregnant with Austin. The shock and anger took a heavy toll on my mother's health during childbirth, and she passed away when I was five.
"At my mother's funeral, that woman showed up with Austin, demanding that my father take responsibility. She completely ruined the service."
