I looked out the window of the small room that looks like a mansion to me. This has been my room for a very long time now and yet, I still could not get used to the fact that it is indeed my room and my home now. I could see the lawn from here where children of all ages including my age are playing. The first time I was invited to play, I almost hurt someone when I was startled and then the second time I played, I caused someone to get injured when I pushed him away when he touched me. I refused to play from then on. It is hard to get used to this life even if many years have already gone by when the Alpha took me in. It is hard for me to get close to anyone or initiate a conversation. I do not even dare try to really communicate with the rest of the pack with the fear that I’ll hurt them even though they are used to me.
I was born a rogue before I was orphaned and abandoned by my group but abandonment was nothing new because even when I was part of the group, survival was already a daily challenge. When I was abandoned, I was homeless but smart enough to learn how to survive. I learned how to steal and learned how to fight and run away from different types of people. I was a mess when I was brought here by Alpha David and it took me months to learn that everyone around me would not hurt me or take my food away. When the Alpha met his mate, Luna Elizabeth, my life became a bit more like a life because she became a friend and a teacher to me. Luna Elizabeth would spend the most time with me with different things for entertainment or for teaching. She did not mind that I rarely talk to her and would just politely listen to her. I would try hard to learn what she would teach me and I noticed that that was enough proof for her to know that I am okay. I do not know what the rest of the pack know about me but they always treated me with sincere kindness and have been doing that until now. At school, no one bothers me and I do not bother them so school is fine for me.
“Here, eat more meat. You need to get more fat in that small body of yours.” Mama Willa, the pack house caretaker, said as she scooped two slices of meat to my plate during dinner. She also always say those words to me.
“Thank you Mama Willa.” I quietly said as I obediently started biting on the meat.
“The only thanks I need are to see you eating and growing. This refers to all of you.” She said and everyone at the dining hall cheered or joked.
The pack house looks like a residence building to any outsider but not every member of the pack lives here. Most of the pack members with families of their own have homes of their own in town or near the pack house. There are also people like me who are orphans and depend on the pack for daily necessities like food and shelter. I receive allowances but someone like me who have no wants, just needs, has no desire to spend money. People who experienced what hunger and being homeless tend to have this trait. Clothes and things are not lacking on my part because Luna Elizabeth seems to adore shopping and she would buy me things on impulse when she sees something, she is rich and that is not a secret. Luna Elizabeth obviously favors me a bit more than the others and I might have attracted jealousy from the others but as long as they do not touch me, everything is fine with me. There are only a few things that scare me and they involve mostly my self-control but I am fearless because I have nothing to lose.
“Abby!” I heard someone shout when I was walking on the way home from school. The voice is from someone I could recognize even when I am sleeping.
“Luna.” I greeted when she stopped the car in front of me. Her black eyes shone brightly when she smiled as usual.
“Going home?”
“Yes Luna.”
“I am going to the diner for a burger. Do you want to come with me?” She said and in the voice that says she’s going to make me go in the end but still…
“I have a lot of homework.” The Luna stuck out her tongue.
“There is nothing wrong with having fun or taking a break after school. Besides, I know you. Those homeworks are nothing to you. So come on before I order you to do so.” Is it strange to think now that the Luna is actually a “bad influence”?
“Okay.” I said with a silent sigh.
“Yehey.” She said and I went around the car towards the passenger seat. She took my backpack and tossed it towards the back and started driving. I ignored the fact that her action could have damaged my books.
Luna Elizabeth is a free spirit that always does things confidently and without fear but she honestly does what she wants all the time. I do not know her story but I heard some of the pack members say that she had a past that was not good and other than that, no one had really gone into details about that past. I am aware that some of the pack members are still wary of the Luna but it does not seem to bother Luna Elizabeth. She does her duties as a Luna right and sometimes when she is not doing her duties as a Luna, she is just the Alpha’s wife and mate. Other than doing things that she wants to do, she never really bothers anyone who does not want to be bothered or does she try to carry favor for those who do not like her. She is the type of person who does not hide her true colors or change for someone to like her. I looked at her as she chatted about some random things she saw in the forest today during her run and she turned to smile at me when she noticed me staring. I gave her a small smile and turned to look out the window. One thing though is that she is very beautiful. Another thing I heard is that she is older than the Alpha. No one would actually believe such rumor when they look at the Luna in comparison to the Alpha.
“What do you want to eat?” The Luna asked when Kelly, the waitress and Mama Willa’s daughter, came and gave us the menu.
“I will just have water. I am not hungry.” I said and the Luna was not the one who spoke up.
“Abigail Finch! You are not leaving this diner until you have food in that stomach of yours.” Kelly said as she tapped my head with her pen. The Luna laughed. Everyone who knows Mama Willa will not doubt that Kelly is her daughter.
“But I am not-“I started to protest but Kelly started writing in her pad.
“Okay, Abigail will have a milkshake and a mega burger. What about you Luna?” Kelly asked as she ignored me and took the Luna’s order. She left after giving me a smirk.
“So we haven’t spoken for almost 3 days.” The Luna started when Kelly left. “How are things with you?”
“I am fine and nothing has changed Luna.” I replied but I silently hesitated.
The pack, the Thunder pack, has one of the strongest warriors in the werewolf world and this is because the pack has willing werewolves that join the Elite group, a group of warriors, of the pack. They are not bound by their duty to the pack but they are doing it willingly with the desire and courage to fight. They take an oath that ties their lives to the pack forever. I have been observing them and had been reflecting for a long time.
