Chapter 1 Signed in Cold Ink
Aurora Mo and Lucian Che began as a mere contractual couple, yet unexpectedly, fate would slowly draw them into a deep and genuine love. But how did they even end up signing this contract in the first place?
That day, Aurora Mo paced nervously in front of the marriage registry office. She was terrified she would regret this decision, but she desperately needed this marriage to resolve her father's massive debts.
Lucian Che had explained coldly that he needed a wife to shield himself from his intrusive family. Aurora had agreed but not without presenting her own terms. Lucian considered her conditions briefly and nodded, sealing the deal.
When Lucian finally arrived, he simply said, "Let's go. It's time to sign." Aurora quietly nodded, following him inside.
After they completed the formalities and signed their marriage documents, Lucian swiftly left without another glance. Aurora stood alone, watching his retreating figure fade into the distance. She took a deep breath, reminding herself firmly, "It's just a contract. This is merely a transaction—don't ever fall for it."
A chilly breeze brushed past, raising goose-bumps on her arms. For a split second she almost rushed after him—to ask whether his indifference was real or just another layer of the contract—but pride glued her feet to the marble floor. She inhaled slowly, pressed the new red marriage certificate against her chest, and muttered, “Survive the year, pay the debt, then walk away intact.” Only then did she push open the heavy glass door and step back into the glaring sunlight, forcing a smile no one would notice.
