Rain and Nickolas

"Wrain" my little four-year brother says looking up at me with his big blue eyes.

"Where are we going and why do these people have on funny looking cloths?"

“Because it is a holiday called Halloween where one night a year people dress up and go trick or treating."

He scowls "trick or twreating."

“yes people give them candy."

His eyes widen and I could tell that he wants to talk more about this holiday, but he doesn’t.

"Are they going to be nice to us?"

 "We are going to someone who has agreed to keep us safe."

I say with uncertainty sneaking into my head.

"Now Nickolas, try to rest. Our journey is long and we will not arrive until well after the sun goes down, OK baby?"

"OK Wrain."

Rain's pov

I sit there watching Nickolas sleep for a while, letting my thoughts go back to horrors of my second home. If it hadn’t been for Agnes, we would surely be dead by now, and I do not understand why. We are nothing special, that’s what we have been told. They kept us only as slaves to our last pack. I had to work day in, and day out just so they wouldn’t harm Nickolas. He wasn’t allowed to go to school or train with the other children. A few weeks ago he spilled a glass of milk, Alpha Thomas saw him. He immediately rose to his full height and slapped me so hard that I lost hearing in one ear for two weeks. The bruise is probably still visible. Nickolas ran to his  room, scared and crying. It was always my fault why I didn’t know, but I would much rather he hit me than Nickolas. He is just a young boy who is scared, so I have to be the strong one. We lived there since the night Nickolas was born. That was the last night I saw my parents. My Mother went in to the doctor’s room to have Nickolas and she never came out.  My father killed himself that same night because he couldn’t live with her as his mate. We were only supposed to be there visiting the pack for my dad join in on pack meetings; we were supposed to go home!

Home, was my last thought before slipping into my dreams where I dreamt of my beautiful home in the bayou. I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face and hear Nickolas laughing and playing. My parents, smiling down on us from afar. Everything felt safe.

The train comes to a stop and my heart immediately starts racing nearly out of my chest. I am scared mostly for Nick, but I am scared this Alpha will harm us both. Agnes ushers us out and reassures us that everything will be ok. Still with shaky hands I grab onto Nickolas much smaller shaky hand to follow Agnes to what may be our final home. We will either be happy here or put to death. Either way, I hope they spare Nick; he is so small and helpless.

As we reach the Crescent moon territory. I see guards step to alert as we get nearer. One guard is even growling now to show us we are not welcome and definitely not expected. Nickolas whimpers when the guard is almost in full werewolf form, snarling at my face. I try to look down at the ground to show respect but this asshole won’t allow it so with tears starting to fill my eyes I look him in the face. He says to me.

"state your business."

I try to open my mouth to talk, but nothing comes out. He roars as tears stream down my face Nickolas is now hiding behind me holding on for dear life. The guard grabs my throat and lifts me out of reach of poor Nick who is now screaming and Agnes, Where the f**k did Agnes go? I am batting my eyes, trying to talk. Looking for anyone to help us as my head hit something hard then all I see is black dots form where my eyesight is supposed to be I quickly mind link Nickolas to tell the guard the Alpha Adrian is expecting us. He permitted the visit. Then, nothing. Nothing but dark black nothing.

Nickolas pov

"Sir?"  crying and shaking. "Please don’t hurt my sister. The Alpha Adrian says we can be here."

The guard slings my sister to the ground to turn toward me, and I am so scared I can’t help but to pee on myself. The guard stops when he hears something growling.

"Leland, what the f**k are you doing?"

Then a very large, solid black wolf appears out of nowhere. The biggest wolf my little eyes have ever seen.  His growls are so loud it makes the ground shake so hard I fell down next to my sister. Who is still unconscious from her head hitting the tree.

"Wrian I cry pwease get up! pwease! "

The big wolf stops growling immediately when he sees Rain. He bends down and smells of us as to make sure we are no threat; I think. One bite and he could eat us both. Rain moves as tears roll off my face. She tries to sit up but passes back out. That’s when the wolf says something to the other two wolfs that had now joined him.

"Lucy get the little pup to the house. Charlie Don’t let any harm come to the boy."

Charlie shook his head in agreement. That’s when the smaller wolf grabbed me by my shirt and took off through the woods. I begged" pwease my sister. I can’t leave my sister." But it was of no use.

Rain's pov

 I wake and frantically look for Nickolas. I try to stand, but I can’t. My head is still dizzy from the concussion that I am sure I now have.

I am trying to scream for Nickolas, but my voice sounds so weak to even my own ears. That is when I see him watching me, just staring at me as he says something to his guard, and the guard runs away whimpering.

I prop myself up against the tree I had been so forcefully thrown at. I am frightened; he looks furious. He is. Probably didn’t even wait for his reply to her letter.

"He has probably not even been expecting us!" My wolf says so low I can barely hear her.

“Nice of you to join me now”!

"Sorry, you know, I don’t agree with this. I am still pissed."

“Yeah Thanks, I will just die here alone then”.

I ignore her and peek back in the stalker’s direction who is standing there in his non-human form, just staring at me like I’m his f*****g dinner. I move my hand to touch the bump on my head. I wince in pain, and he rushes toward me. I quickly drop it and look to the ground.

"Where is my little brother?" No answer! Great.

"Please don’t harm him. He is all I’ve got. You can kill me if someone has to die, but please just protect Nickolas."

“What is your name”, he growls as he changes and quickly slides the shorts on he had tied to his leg.

"Rain, My Name is Rain."

“Ok, first my Name is Adrian. I am the Alpha here at Crescent Moon; Your little brother is with my sister Lucy and her mate Charlie. He is safe. But you need to come with me and let’s get you checked out by the pack doctor, the tree was a little harder than your head he smiles”.

I instantly relax a little when he did that. I now can’t stop looking at him. He is beautiful and scary all at the same time.

"Can I go check on Nick first?"I ask with a shaky voice.

“How about I take you to the house and the doctor can visit you there”.

I nod in agreement and try to stand again but everything went black and I think I passed out again because when I woke up I was in his arms being carried, I didn’t move because I felt so warm and protected. I hadn’t ever felt so warm. I was confused at the feelings that were running through my body. The only people I have ever felt feelings for were my parents and nick, I shiver a little and he snuggles me closer to him and I let him. When we arrive at the house, The door is opened by a beautiful blond girl with eyes like Adrian’s. I knew it must be Lucy.  Charlie is right by her side.  Nickolas is covered up on the couch with a blanket and something hot in a cup. Adrian gives Lucy a sideways look like what the hell Lucy? She shrugs and smiles at me, I realize that we are in his house and he may not be comfortable with it so I start thanking him them to try to get down to gather Nick and his cup of whatever. He holds me tighter though and just goes up the stairs to a large room where he gently lays me on the bed. I protest and say.

"If you could just lend us a blanket for the night we will sleep in the shed and be on our way in the morning. I didn’t mean for this to happen I thought you knew of our arrival. I am so sorry to cause you any trouble." He is again just glaring at me. Great, now the damn Alpha is pissed, I think.

He stands and walks out the door leaving it open just a little and in the next minute Nickolas is jumping onto the bed. The doctor comes in with Adrian right on her heels.

"This is Wren; she will take care of you until you are better and can move around on your own."

I just look at him with confusion and say “thank you”. I say so low that I’m not sure he heard me. But then I see his lip go up just slightly and I knew he did. He waited while wren checked me out. Wren says I have a concussion and a fractured neck. So I am to stay in bed for at least a week because I’m not healing like I should be as a wolf. She also told him that Nick and I were malnourished so he is yelling at everyone to bring food to us. Nick looks at me with a raised eyebrow and I do the same and we both shrug our shoulders. Deciding it would be best if we didn’t talk because we were starving and the thought of food. Well it’s been almost two weeks since I have even had a piece of bread. Nick did get to eat once a day but only enough to keep him going and because I was older I got to have food once a week and it was always what someone left on their plate after dinner. Lucy comes in with a tray filled with bread and soup. I could smell that it was chicken soup the one thing my parents would go to town to get us when we were little. As the thought entered my mind I felt a tear fall and Lucy stopped in her tracks as Adrian growled.

"I-I can bring something else sweetie. I just thought;"

shaking my head I smile a nervous smile, “No! Its perfect thank you so much! but we don’t mean to be so much trouble”.

Looking down to Nick I see he is more than hungry but he hasn’t moved since Adrian growled at Lucy. He doesn’t want to make trouble for me.

"Go ahead Nickolas," Adrian says in a more gentle tone.

"It is OK to eat our food and stay in our house. You don’t have to be scared here. I will protect you and your sister OK?"

Nicolas looks at me and I nod for him to go ahead and eat while taking a piece of bread for myself with very shaky hands.

Adrian notices that I am shaking and goes over to the large fire place. He has a fire going in just minutes and says that will warm the room, He must think I am cold.

"The two of you will stay in here for tonight"

He says as he  goes to the closet to grab some clothes for himself. I realize at that moment that we are in the Alphas bed. I jump up not remembering that I’m injured, and I fall flat on my face making Nick spill his soup all over the bed. Nick scrambles to my side crying,

"’m sorry I didn’t mean to spill the sou. Pwease Alpha don’t hit her!"

He says so scared of what’s coming.

"I will clean it all up."

Adrian looks pained as he bends to help me up and I see anger flash in his eyes. I brace waiting for the beating coming but it never does. He places his hand on my face and gentle as he can be says open your eyes Rain. I slowly did and meet his ice blue gaze, my eyes widen in fear.

I managed to whisper "please send Nickolas out before you…"

He cut me off growling at my words. I cry even more thinking he is going to beat us both or maybe worse. His eyes darken almost solid black, he shakes his head as if trying to calm himself and steps back from me a little to let me know he isn’t going to harm me looking over at Nick curled up on the bed crying.

"Nickolas why would you think because you spilled a bowl of soup that I would hit your sister?"

Nick looked to me for what to say. I shrugged and answered for him.

"that’s how we were treated at our second home."

Adrian loosened his hold on me and shook his head as he said.

"I will never beat you or your sister Nickolas. But I will find whoever did and I will make them pay. I’ll have more soup brought up and clean sheets for the bed."

Nick and I both sat on the bed so confused watching him leave. One minute I think he is going to kill me and the next he is nice to me. I don’t get it. A short while later, I hear a knock at the door. It was younger female wolf with the most welcoming smile with fresh soup and sheets for the bed.

"Hi I’m Amber"  The beautiful brunette says as she walks in the room.

"I will be your um, assistant until you heal."

“Assistant?" I say with a raised brow.

"Yes! Let’s just say that Alpha Adrian cares for you a great deal and wants you to be comfortable here. So he sent you me!" She said with a bit smile and a quick raise of her eyebrows.

"Now let’s get you over to the couch while I change the bed OK?"

I nod and let her help me. Nick quickly follows and we eat our food while Amber sings and dances while changing the sheets as if she is happy to do it. I shake my head again but don’t think much of it because the soup is so good it is all my mind will let me think of. After we finish, Amber helps me back over to the bed very careful not to hurt me. Nickolas crawls in beside me, snuggles close and quickly falls asleep.

"Thank you Amber for being so nice to us, I know you don’t have to be."

“Actually I do Rain. Alphas orders but guess what?"

"What?" I say furrowing my brow wondering why it was the Alphas orders.

“It’s not just because he ordered it. I like you Rain, little Nikolas there too she said with a huge smile."

Oh OK, well thank you it’s nice having people treat us like we matter. She lays her hand on my shoulder and says

“you two will always matter."

At that she left the room. I am so confused; I don’t know why all these people are treating us like were their family. I lay there a while thinking about the subject but sleep threatens to take over I try to fight it because I’m in his bed and his scent is doing things to me but in the end sleep won the fight.

The next day I wake up to Amber rustling around setting a small table up in the room. When she notices I am awake, she smiles warmly at me and says.

"Good morning, sleepyhead. Did you guys sleep ok? Are you two hungry?"

Nick looks at me silently asking for permission to go eat, so I nod my head. He jumps off the bed and runs to the table. He waits while she fills his plate with eggs, bacon and toast. Then she sits a bowl of fresh fruit down beside him, too. Stunned at all the food on the table and what we had already eaten, I refused breakfast because there was no way in hell I could repay this debt to the Alpha. I didn’t even know how I could repay what we had already taken.

With a worried look Amber says to me, "are you sick?"

I shake my head.

"Then what’s wrong, why won’t you eat?"

I open my mouth to say something when Alpha Adrian walks in, and says, "Eat!"

“No, thank you. I am ok as long as Nickolas eats, I will eat what he doesn’t finish."

"Rain, you will eat anything but leftovers here. You will be the first to eat in this house; you and Nickolas before even I from now on do you understand me?"

His eyes darken again, and I immediately shake my head, agreeing that I will eat. He fixes my plate and brings it to the bed where I am still sitting.

"Here, eat." I am shaking again nervously and accidentally drop the fork to the plate, making a clanking noise. I freeze, looking at him with wide eyes. Grabbing the fork, he picks some food up and places it to my mouth. He fed me the whole plate and went to refill

"No, Thanks; I am full, really." Nodding, he stops and asks Nickolas if he would like more.

Nickolas said "um no tanks I am full too."

Adrian shakes his head and asks Nickolas if he would like to spend the day with Lucy and Charlie.

"They’re going into town and I thought you would like to buy your sister a get well soon present."

Nick shakes his head happily that he wants to go. I am so shocked all I can do is sit there because I am too afraid to protest.

" OK buddy go get dressed I had Amber lay you some fresh cloths over in the bathroom pointing to a door over by the TV.?

Nick ran to the bathroom and quickly dresses himself. He comes out looking so adorable. He had on brand new jeans and a hoody with brand new boots on. I couldn’t ever remember him wearing anything new even as a baby we always had hand-me-downs.

"Look Wrain! New boots!"

“I see that; you look so big in your new boots”.

"Tanks!" Smiling, he looks at Adrian and says

"Is Wucy coming?"

Just then we hear a knock at the door. Adrian moves to open the door to Lucy standing there looking like she just stepped out of a magazine. I shrink back under the cover a little, feeling a bit out-of-place looking at her beauty. Her ice-blue eyes matching her grey hoody thingy, tight leggings on and thy high boots.

"Hey guys," she says, smiling.

shyly I say “hi Lucy”. Nick runs and throws his arms around her legs saying

"Hi Wucy, I have new boots!"

“Hey there buddy, I love your new boots; you look like you’re a foot taller in those boots”.

"Yep", he says and tries to stand taller looking at her with happiness in his eyes. I was taken aback when I see how Nick already feels so comfortable around them.

Adrian finally says "There just going into to town for the afternoon. Stop worrying he will be fine."

“How did you know I was worried”? I challenge.

Smiling he looks at me and says "it is written all over your face. I promise no harm will come to him as long as he is with Lucy and Charlie. I trust them with my life."

I take a deep breath and relaxed a little. Nick waves as he leaves with Lucy and says

"By Wrain, I’ll buy you someting pwetty."

“Have fun Nick" I say waving as he leaves.

 Realization then sets in that I am alone with Adrian. He is staring at me and I blush, my emotions are running wild! His scent in intoxicating! He then lets a groan or maybe it was a low growl and says,

"you don’t know do you?"

“What" I say blushing now to but mostly annoyed that he is staring..

"You and me, Rain." He says more serious now.

“What about me and you Alpha”? I say with a sharper tone than I meant to. When I did his eyes turn almost black and I again shrink as far back into the bed as I can. He realizes he is scaring me, so he calms himself and sits on the bed. Holding his hands up, he says I am sorry I scare you. It is not what you think though.

"My eyes change for many reasons; Anger is one of those reasons, yes. But there are many more than just anger."

“Like what I ask”?

"Well sadness is one, and lust is another."

“Lust? I don’t know what that is”.

"Oh ok,"

"You and I are mates. My wolf wants to claim you as mine. The moon goddess chose you to complete me."

Confused, I look at him and ask “is that why my hands shake when I am around you?"

He smiles "yeah something like that. I am surprised your wolf isn’t clawing to get near me."

“She is mad at me and she is ignoring me right now. I haven’t changed in so long she probably wants to leave me, anyway; I shrug”.

"Why haven’t you changed? “

"I  wasn’t allowed."

He shakes his head and stands holding his hand out to me come with me beautiful. Raising an eyebrow, I take his hand and stand.

My body still sore and not yet fully healed but almost we walk out the door, we walk down the stairs to a door leading to the court yard. Adrian turns to stand in front of me.

"That is why you haven’t fully healed. Your wolf is half of whom you are, without her you will die. I want you to let her out."

The thought pained me. He was right; she is part of me but I didn’t have a choice. She didn’t know that though. I kept her blocked because she begged to be let out some and I couldn’t so I kept her blocked most of the time since I turned 13. She has just recently started talking to me again;

" I whisper low; I don’t know if I can anymore." 

He smiles and says "close your eyes."

I did as ask. I feel his warm breath on my neck, and then his canine’s scrape across a very sensitive spot. My whole body heats. I feel like I have butterflies stirring around in my stomach and something weird is going on between my legs. I lean into to him and my wolf yells  "MATE!"

I open my eyes and I can feel her taking over. He steps back smiling. I hear him say "take your time. You are still injured. OK?"

"Yes" I say waiting for the pain to come and go and just like that my Wolf takes control. Relief washes over me and I let go for the first time in years.
