I took a steady breath and made my way towards the church. I reached for the doorknob, and thankfully, it was open. As I entered, my eyes immediately landed on a woman kneeling and praying at the altar. I took quiet strides, careful not to disturb her, as I made my way to the front row. Gently placing my bag on the long bench, I sat down and wrapped my arms around my midriff. Glancing around the spacious Catholic church, I noticed the freshly painted walls, new benches, and a newly painted and decorated altar. My teeth clenched and unclenched as I held onto my bag. I could feel the dampness of my clothes clinging to my body, making me shiver. It seemed like I was coming down with the flu.
