Chapter 40: WORRIES

607 Words
Roark's POV: I could not believe it my father had just said that he would step forward as Nuri's second chance mate... I stood there dumbfounded as he let go of me and stepped away until I gathered myself "You cannot do that... Only I can cast that spell..." Father snickered, "And who taught you that spell?" "Father, you killed the fairy who taught me magic. Right after she finished teaching me this very spell and gave me her spellbooks. I never saw her again." "Oh yes, I killed her, but how did I?" Father asked me as he laughed mockingly. I thought about it, father had always had public punishments and executions. I remembered the day she was given her punishment of 50 slashes, for saying something my father did not approve of.  But then I remembered that after the 50 slashed she was taken to the punishment cell in the castle to be executed, which was very contrary to my father's methods, who liked showing everyone who was in-charge and what would happen to those who stepped even a little bit out of line. "You did not kill her..." "You are not the brightest. But you have finally caught up. Did you really think that you were the only way of getting what I wanted? You are just a means. So either you do your part and give me results. Or I will not need you anymore... But now that I think of it, I prefer you failing..." Say this he left my chamber. I could not believe this was happening. I was enraged by the idea that my father was even considering to do such a thing to the dragon I loved. But I could also only imagine how he would have reacted if he had figured I had actually fallen in love with her. I quickly ran a shower and thought of what I would be doing next, I had to get results and I needed to get them soon. So tomorrow morning, I would talk to King Devlin and Queen Athena to ask their consent to visit Nuri every 2 days if not a daily basis. I would take a house in the mortal city if needed, but I needed to get a control on the situation before father decided to switch tactics.   King Fin's POV: As I walked out, I could feel Roark's worry grow, which was hilarious. He knew that disappointing me would mean his death, which meant I could expect results soon now. I thought to myself "This will be good. He does not know that I had already considered this initially. He believes that this could be a potential change in the plan because he has disappointed me." I remembered how I had initially considered on keeping the equation short, where there would be no need for an additional person. But later changed the plan to incorporate Roark into it, making things easier for myself. "How he believes I have disclosed everything to him. But he will soon know that he knows nothing..." As I reached my chamber, I wondered, who would be so brave to do something like this to the Draconis clan heir, and when she was the fiancée of the heir to the Phoenix clan. Something was amiss... But then he had made multiple enemies on his way to the top, and only Draconis clan was left to concur. It had to be a desperate attempt of one of the three remaining of the five strongest clans. I wondered what I would do to the being who had crossed paths with me and came up with multiple ways and ideas on how I was going to mutilate them, as I prepared to sleep.
