Going For A Ride

754 Words
I ran through the trees, my dark brown hair flowing in the wind behind me. Once I found my spot I sat down. Hopefully Hayden wouldn't be late. I only had a a few hours before I had to go to dinner. I was surrounded by a thick forest trees. When we were younger, Hayden and I would climb all the way to the top of the trees and pretend we were on top of the world. I waited for Hayden for at least twenty minutes. I was thinking of leaving when I saw a familiar figure, walking through the bush. "Finally!" I said, standing up. "Where have you been?" "Not even a happy birthday?" He said, smiling. "Happy birthday, now do you have it?" I said. Hayden nodded and held up a small box, wrapped in blue wrapping paper. "Is that it?" I asked. Hayden nodded. I reached over to grab the box but Hayden pulled away. "No." He said, smiling. " I don't trust you. I will open it thank you very much." I sighed and sat down with him. Hayden put the box on his lap and stared at it. "Well, what are you waiting for?" I said. "I don't know." Hayden said. "Maybe you should open it. I can't do it." I smiled, and took the box from his lap, setting it on mine. "I told you, I'm always right." Hayden smiled. I put my hand on his lap. "What do think it is?" I said. He shrugged. I carefully untangled the red ribbon that was tied in a bow on top of the box. The box was small. Very small, like inside was a pair of car keys. Then it hit me. "Hayden how old are you?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer. "You know how old I am, why?" Hayden said, looking confused. I got excited, and looked at Hayden, expecting him to know what I'm thinking. He looked doubtful. "I'm not sure Harlyn." He said. I knew it was though. I excitedly ripped off the wrapping paper off the box and lifted the lid. I held up a pair of car keys and jingled them in Hayden's face? He gasped. We both smiled and shot up. We both ran as fast as we could to Hayden's house, leaving behind the wrapping paper and box. In the driveway of his house was a brand new car. It was small, but perfect. Hayden and I looked at each other. We ran inside his house and found his parents. They were waiting in he lounge. "Are you serious?" Hayden asked, grinning widely. His parents smiled and nodded. Hayden looked at me, still smiling. I smiled back. "Let's go!" He shouted running out the door, and into his rand new car. I followed him. I jumped into the passenger seat beside him and looked around. The seats were leather and soft. Everything was smooth and comfortable. I leaned into my seat. Hayden held his keys tightly in his hands, while putting them in the ignition. The engine started and Hayden laughed. He put the car into gear and we drove off. I got out my phone and texted my parents that I was with Hayden, but that I wouldn't be late for dinner. I rolled the window down and felt the summer breeze against my face. I looked at Hayden. "Where are we going?" I asked, sticking my head out the window. Hayden shrugged. "Wherever the wind takes us darling." He responded. It annoyed me when he called me that. I playfully punched him on the arm. "Hey," He said. "Never distract the driver!" He looked at me. I stared into his brown eyes and smiled. When I turned my head back to the road there was a big truck heading straight towards us. "Hayden?" I yelled. Hayden spun the wheel. The car swerved out of the way of the truck, but right into the way of another car. The two cars collided. The whole car jolted. I screamed. The windshield glass broke andflew everywhere. I remember my eye hurting like never before. I clutched Hayden's arm. He looked past me and pointed. He said something, but I didn't hear what. I crained my neck to see what he was pointing at. Coming straight towards us was a big van. It didn't stop in time and rammed straight into the side of the car. I felt the car jolt again, more glass breaking next to me, then nothing.
