Shadows in the dark

The abandoned school

"Hey, did you hear that?" whispered Emily.

"Hear what?" replied Jake.

"It sounded like footsteps," said Emily.

Jake listened carefully but didn't hear anything. "You're just imagining things. Let's focus on finding a way out of here."

They had been wandering aimlessly around the abandoned school for hours now, hoping to find a way out before nightfall. But every door was locked and every window was boarded up.

Suddenly, they heard the sound again. This time it was closer and louder. "I told you!" exclaimed Emily, her voice shaking with fear.

Jake tried to stay calm. "Okay, let's just stay together and keep moving. We'll get out of here eventually."

They continued walking down the empty hallway when suddenly Emily stopped in her tracks and let out a blood-curdling scream.

"What is it?" cried out Jake.

Emily pointed towards the end of the hallway, where a figure stood watching them from the shadows.

"Who are you? Show yourself!" demanded Jake, his voice trembling with fear.

The figure stepped forward slowly revealing itself to be a ghostly entity emitting an eerie hum that echoed off the walls of the empty hallways.

Emily impulsively reached for her mobile phone to take a video when she realised that there was no battery power left and they were stranded without any connection to the outside world.

The only sound in that moment was that of their hearts beating furiously as they stared at what seemed like their inevitable fate....
