Jessica's POV:
I felt myself slowly dissolve back into consciousness and it seemed light was pouring through the window. It was a bright yellow light. I slowly opened my eyes and moving slowly because I had been in bed most of yesterday and the whole night through.
My body felt stiff, but other than that I felt more awake, more alert. I looked over at the desk to see Johnny had passed out. It seemed he finished the book. He was sound asleep.
I really didn’t want to wake him, but because of what’s going on I walked over to him stopping at his right side. I put my right hand on his shoulder and started to shake it.
But no matter how much I shook him he didn’t wake. So as a last resort I went and grabbed my phone. I went to my ringtones and started playing one at full blast right by his ear.
He jumped and looked around looking like he was about to beat someone up. Then he caught sight of me and relaxed. It scared me a little when he jumped, so I backed up my eyes popped open. He towered over me. I had to look up toward the ceiling.
It was quiet, but he looked apologetic for his actions. I never expect him to act this way while waking him up. I then relaxed taking a deep breath in the process. He relaxed as well.
“Sorry about that. Sometimes I don’t wake up to well,” I looked at him worriedly. He came over to me and patted me with his large right hand. He was a tall guy, so of course his hands were large. His whole hand fit all around the top of my head. Then his hand moved to the back of my head pulling me into him. He had to bend to hug me. His left arm went around my shoulders.
“You don’t have to worry about me. I’m okay. Just worry about yourself.” He said with his cheek now at the top of my head. He felt really warm and helped me relax a little bit. My hands balled up clenching his shirt with it. I don’t know why I just started to cry.
He just held me tighter as I cried silently, because not a single noise would come out of my vocal cords. He rubbed my back slowly letting me cry everything. It just seems I keep falling apart at random times. But everyone doesn’t mind it. They let me at the same time they stay with me, so I’m not alone when I cry. It feels very reassuring.
Even though I had woken him up and freaked him out the warmth he gives my heart makes me feel very happy.
After I finished crying he wiped the tears from my face and smiled. It warmed my heart.
Getting a good night's sleep I grabbed some fresh new clothes going into the bathroom and showering. The hot water felt nice on my skin. I got out brushed my teeth, changed into a knee length jean skirt that flares out. I put on a wide strapped, black tank top. I blow dried my hair and did my makeup of eyeliner and mascara.
I left the bathroom and slipped on a pair of blue flip flops with memory foam in them. I grabbed my phone and my purse.
Without a single word we headed downstairs. I felt so refreshed after not having to be woken up throughout the night. The shower made it even better.
We got to the bottom seeing Charlie standing at the bottom with a smile playing on his lips. He wrapped his arms around me holding me close. I froze because this was so unexpected.
“Charlie, you shouldn’t do that. I think you scared her.” It did scare me too. Johnny sighed.
“But I haven’t seen her since she came here. I wanted to hug her to like everybody else has,” he pouted like a child. I felt his warmth toward me and unexpectedly I wrapped my arms around him, which shocked him.
For a man with muscles I could actually wrap my arms around him. They may not be able to connect but I was touching his back. I felt him stiffen for a moment and then his arms tightened just a bit around me. I could hear Johnny chuckle behind me.
Too soon though Charlie let go, but I still felt warm from his hug. He then pulled a card from his pocket and holding it up.
“Daniel is stuck in his room doing paperwork and making phone calls today. So we will be taking Ms. Jessica shopping.” He smiled hugely. I looked at Johnny. He had a gentle smile playing on his lips. Well I guess I get two people going with me instead.
I typed into my phone using an app that’ll use words.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go.” My phone using my words said monotonously. Charlie held a set of keys in his hand. He led the way, I followed behind him, and Johnny followed up on the rear.
The car we were getting into was a blue Toyota Camery. I was about to get into the back seat when Charlie grabbed my hand and pulled me to the passenger seat. Opening the door for me and helping me in. I looked at Johnny who just shrugged his head and got in behind the drivers side.
Charlie closed the door and I buckled in. I guess Johnny and Charlie seem to be close. For Johnny to just get in the back seat without a second thought.
As we were driving to I don’t even know, but we seemed to be in a rural area with a lot of wooded areas. I pulled out my phone and asked the question that just kept rolling over and over in my head.
“So just how close are you two?” My phone saying the words that were on my mind.
It must’ve taken them off guard that it became awkwardly silent in the car.
“I guess you could say we’re like brothers. Our families were close so we became friends, but I guess we created a bond stronger than friendship,” Johnny said.
“I remember after your parents divorce you and your mom came to live with us,” Charlie said. I didn’t flinch, because divorce is pretty common nowadays. “I know it’s a touchy subject, but have you heard from your father?” I heard Johnny hiss in the back seat.
“Yes, when I turned eighteen. Ever since then he’s been popping in and out trying to have a relationship with me. After what he’s done I’m not having it,” he spit. Depression filled the car. I wasn’t going to ask why he didn’t want to ask what his father did.
I reached my left hand onto the back and I looked at him. He got confused but I made a motion for him to give me his hand. He put his hand in my hand and I laced my fingers with his. I squeezed giving him good vibes through our hands. I got him to smile again. But the rest of the ride to the store I held his hand.
I’ve never met anybody the would ever let people see their emotions as much as I have seen these men show theirs. It makes me feel more comfortable because I’ve had to many people hide their emotions and it does nothing, but themselves.
We pulled into a Walmart super center parking lot. It didn’t seem to be too busy because there were not many cars in the parking lot. Charlie parked and turned off the car. Johnny let go of my hand and unbuckled. He got out and he and Charlie were on my side as I got out.
It was strange though I guess you could say I didn’t mind it. Charlie grabbed my left hand and Johnny grabbed my right hand. They both walked kind of pulling me at first but I tried to keep up with them as we walked toward the entrance. Good thing I had an extra person, because we were going to need at least three carts.
In the entrance where all the carts are I grabbed one and passed it to Charlie. Passed another to Johnny, and I grabbed one. I took the lead with Charlie and Johnny following behind. We walked the entirety of the food section. Grabbing dry goods first. We had filled two carts full of the dry goods. Bread and chips at the very top.
Then we went to the frozen section grabbing frozen veggies and fruits and frozen meals just in case I don’t feel like cooking. We had to grab another cart for meats and for fresh fruits and veggies. We did have to grab cleaning supplies and they were picking up four bed sets. And some shower curtains, liners, rings, and poles. Bathroom rug sets, etc, etc.
The guys loaded the stuff onto the registers belt. I stood by helping the cashier bag and loading the bags into the carts. I was pretty fast and we got through this in about fifteen minutes. The cashier thanked me for my help. Charlie did the paying and we loaded the trunk and the back seat as well. This time I told them I’d sit in the back seat since I was smaller and take up less room. I sat in the back with bags and milk piled on the floor and eggs, bread and chips piled on the seat next to me.
At home the guys made a deal that they would bring in the bags of food and I would put them away. So they were bring bags in they grabbed the cold stuff first putting the meat in the walk in freezer and the other stuff in the walk in cooler. I took everything out and stacked them on the. Once they were done with the cold items they started bringing in the dry goods.
When I was done organizing the items onto the shelves that lined the walls in the walk-in freezer and cooler I started organizing the dry goods. From boxed food and canned food to bags of sugar jars of jelly and jams and sauces.
Afterwards I looked at the shelves lined with food. I could not believe how full it looked now. I did buy more coffee. They had a coffee grinder. I grabbed the coffee beans and poured some in the grinder.
The smell it gave off smelled so good. I then poured the coffee grounds in the filter in the coffee pot. Filled the reservoir with water. I added a little bit of chocolate powder to the coffee grounds.
The guys had to set up four of the rooms, while I was putting the food away.
I closed the top and started the brewing. I grabbed the bread and cold cuts, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles from the walk in. I layered the meat and cheese on. Then I cut some tomatoes and lettuces and layered them on the sandwich. I put the pickles on and spread some mayo on the top piece of bread. I put some chips on the side.
I had also cut some lettuce and tomatoes up for our sandwiches. The coffee was finished brewing. I filled a cup with the coffee and added some sugar and cream. I had asked Johnny how Daniel takes his coffee and he told me. He also told me where to find his room. I picked up the plate and cup and made my way to the first floor.
It was to my left fourth door down. I place the plate over the cup and knocked three times.
“Coming,” a voice called lightly. I hear the chair move. It sounded like one with wheels. I heard his light footsteps come to the door. He opened the door and looked surprised. But he smiled a little.
“You really shouldn’t have.” He took the plate and he took a whiff of the coffee. I could see the shadows under his eyes. He’s probably been up for a while. “Thank you. This should keep me going for a while.” He smiled brightly. I pulled out my phone from my skirt pocket and typed really fast.
“Let me know if you need a coffee refill.” The phone spoke my words.
“You don’t have to worry-,” but I shook my head cutting him off.
“You’ve done so much for me, at least let me do this for you. It’s not much anyway.” My phone spoke my words again.
“Okay, but hang on a moment. He put his food and coffee down on his desk with piles of paperwork. He came back and held out his hand for my phone. I handed it to him and he quickly did a couple things and then handed it back. I heard his phone go off.
“Now you have my number, and I have a way of getting in contact with you when I need more coffee.” His smile was so gentle I couldn’t help myself. I ran into him just hugging him as tightly as I could. He stiffened but then loosened up and wrapped his arms around me.
I didn’t realize I had started to tear up, but I felt his hand at the back of my head. Massaging my head with his fingers. Letting my tears flow. His warmth and kindness are just getting to me. I couldn’t help it. I felt safe and warm here.
Good thing he was wearing a black shirt because I forgot I was wearing makeup and my makeup was running after I was done crying. He used tissues to fix the issue, but he gave me a gentle smile.
I said my good luck on getting his stuff done and I left to go back downstairs to make the other two sandwiches as well. I set chips on their plate and then I made my sandwich with chips. I pour coffee into cups. I added a tablespoon of sugar and a little bit of cream.
Taking a sip feeling the warmth. I tasted a little bit of the chocolate in the coffee. I snapped my my tongue and sighed outward. It was good. I went into the dining room and enjoyed my lunch. The other two followed in not too long afterward.
It was silent, but I didn’t feel lonely at all. The crunching of food and sipping of coffee filled the room, but no words were spoken. We all sat there for a bit after eating making some idle chatter.
“Would it be too much to ask if you could show me around?” I asked using my phone to speak for me. They looked at each other and then looked at me with smiles.
“We’d be happy to,” Johnny obliged. Charlie nodded his head in agreement. I took the plates and cups and put them in the dishwasher. They showed me the living room. The downstairs bathroom, basement and even the roof space they have.
I looked across the grounds, as the sun shone in the sky. It was kind of humid. But it was nice. I looked at the tower and goosebumps rose upon my entire body. It was dark and a dark energy just surrounded it. It didn’t have a good feel to it. Then in the kitchen there’s a glass sliding door, which opened to the back deck. There were concrete paths that led to different areas.
There were a couple buildings. I would say three. Johnny pointed to the one in the middle.
“That building is off limits unless David and Daniel give you permission to use it,” Johnny said. I nodded my head. But they got my attention to the one on the left. We went into the building and shocked to see a giant pool and a big hot tub.
“This is the pool house. Over there are the changing rooms whenever you feel like going for a swim.” He pointed towards an opening that had the women’s sign on the left and the men’s on the right as you face it.
“Another cool feature is that the roof is made out of windows so during the hot weather you can open them up,” Charlie said looking up. I looked up looking through the windows seeing tree branches hovering over. But the windows were so clear.
We left that area and moved to the other building. It looked like a guest house to me.
“This one is self explanatory. It’s a guest house. This was used for the people who owned this place. They would live here renting out the rooms in the main building. It has a kitchen and everything.” Johnny explained.
“There are also trails that run into the forest. Just make sure not to go too far. We don’t want to lose you,” Charlie mentioned.
I turn around and look at the far right and see a tree and a tree swing. You could fit about four people on it. But I was entranced by it. I walked to it and sat down on the swing. The mixture of the shade of the tree. Which was weird because it was bent at a ninety degree angle. You could feel a cross breeze and feel a bit of the sun. It was the perfect spot to sit with a book and read.
Johnny and Charlie sat on either side of me. I could see a glass building all the way across from us. This property was quite huge it took me a good three minutes to get over here. The glass building looked like a sunroom. It had some comfy chairs in it. Like it would be perfect to sit in on rainy days and watch the rain come down. This place has a very romantic and comfortable feel to it. Even though it was pretty hot out here I felt comfortable.
I didn’t realize that I got so comfy I passed out.
Charlie's POV:
Her light breathing and her peaceful face made me realize she was comfortable. She was leaning on Johnny and I got a little jealous. She really hasn’t been around me much until today and tonight I’ll be keeping an eye on her.
“Why don’t you carry her to her room,” Johnny suggested.
“Yeah maybe today just tired her out,” I said. I gently picked her up princess style and started walking to the door. Johnny followed me opening the doors for me. She wasn’t all that heavy. Maybe it’s because of how strong I am or how fragile she is, but she looked so peaceful sleeping right now.
Once in her room I laid her on her bed covering her with a light extra blanket. Such a kind and caring girl. Her pain and suffering that is affecting us all.
Johnny had left to go to the city to get a couple new books. You really can’t get much around here.
I touched her cheek with my fingertips ever so softly as to not wake her. I gently placed my lips on her forehead.
I left her a bit going to the third floor grabbing my sketch pad and pencils. I ran back and sat in the chair sketching her peaceful beautiful face. I know she is under age, but I’ll take her under my wing as a little sister. Even though she would be the older sister type.
Maybe it was Delilah’s doing but Jessica didn’t really raise her. It was the opposite. Jessica was raising Delilah and taking care of Delilah. I guess Jessica had it rough.
I sketched for a while. I ended up sketching my little sister again.
