Jessica's POV
I didn’t think this place was huge until I was walking up the stairs and seeing the floor above. I never knew how high the ceilings were. The hallway was just a wide open floor. Doors lining the walls. I mean wow. The opening was wider than most hallways and it gave me the feel of a hotel. The carpet was a rich red and gold colors. The design is very beautiful with the red background and gold swirls.
We walked straight through and I would say the ceiling was about six feet higher above my head. The lights look modern, but yet elegant. I would say there are about 10-15 lining these walls, but I was too amazed about the hallway itself I became just entranced by the beauty of that.
This place is now starting to seem bigger than I originally seen from the outside. It feels like a mansion and I could easily get lost. Once I’m familiar it’ll be easier.
We walked up some more stairs and these stairs could be pretty steep. But I could feel the oldness of this building. Now I am extremely enchanted in this place. It’s drawing me even more as we move up.
I caught sight of David watching me very amused. I blushed a bit, but still enchanted. I really couldn’t wait to see my room. I wonder if the design or how they designed my room.
We had walked up to the fourth floor and final floor. It was literally like hiking. It would take me fifteen minutes to make it to the first floor.
Daniel and David both turned the same direction there right and started walking to the door in between two other doors on each side. It took about one minute with my slow turtle pace getting to the door.
The wooden door we got to had a lock on it and David pulled out a single key. Stuck it into the lock on the doorknob. I became a little nervous about seeing my room. He turned the key and sweat started to form on my forehead. He turned the knob and opened the door. Daniel flicked the light switch.
The room itself was spacious. A double bed decked out in a lavender color. It looked like silk. The walls were a light lavender color and the carpet looked to be a deep purple color.
I was amazed at how beautiful the room was. I took in the site. My bed sat between two large windows. A night stand to my left facing the bed. Facing the door it would be to my right. A little chandelier hung from the ceiling illuminating the room. The door swung inward.
Daniel and David lead me into the room and sat me at the end of the bed. I sat at the edge. Johnny and Charlie dragged in my luggage and purse into the room. They immediately left the room, but stood outside my room with Jeremy as they watched me with amused grins on their faces by watching me.
David walked over to a door closest to the window by my bed. There were two doors to my left. He opened the door to show me what looks like a closet with a dresser in it.
“This is the closet and your dresser,” I looked deeper and there was a lot of my stuff just stacked in the closet. I looked quite surprised because I have a lot of stuff and they managed to get it all in the closet.
“Sorry about the mess though,” David apologized.
I noticed Daniel by the other door and he looked a little excited like a child getting to show off a new toy.
“In door number two is your very own bathroom,” he beamed with delight. I then shocked everyone surrounding me. Daniel’s smile was contagious. I had covered my mouth before anyone could see, but I was smiling. I really couldn’t believe this guy could make me smile.
“Daniel, your smile is contagious,” Charlie beamed with delight.
“Huh?” Daniel looked confused, but he looked at me and looked very surprised. They could all tell I was smiling. With everything going on I didn’t think I could smile. But Daniel actually made me smile. In turn everyone beamed with delight at this.
Daniel walked over and put his hand on top of my head and beamed with delight. He looked like he was so happy about me being here. This took everyone by surprise. But as soon as it came my smile left my face. I did blush in embarrassment.
But like all things I forgot one thing. They started to leave the room. Except for Daniel who just walked over to my computer desk to the other side of the room. He sat down and watched everyone leave the room. Then we were alone, but I was starting to get anxious as to why he stayed. I peek at him from the corner of my eye.
He then looked at me and smiled.
“Your probably wondering why I stayed here with you. Am I right?” He asked swiveling the chair pointing in my direction. Surprise colored my face.
Did he just read my mind? How is that could tell exactly what I was thinking?
“Since you could possibly be concussed from that head injury. We thought it best we keep an eye on you. I drew the short straw tonight. You can go to sleep, but I have to be the one to wake you up every two hours to make sure your okay.” He looked at me seriously.
I took my phone from my pocket. I opened my notes and started typing away. When I was finished I got up and walked towards him handing him my phone. This is what he read:
“This is kind of weird don’t you think? Are you seriously going to watch me sleep?” He looked at me amused.
“Actually I have paperwork to do. David’s getting it from my room. I’ll be keeping an eye on you, but I’m just going to do paperwork while you sleep. Jeremy did say you might have a concussion so we need to take precautions regarding this matter. So we had to vote who would stay up for thirty-six hours. I guess you could say they all voted for me to watch over you.”
“David is technically your legal guardian. Your mother seemed to have chosen our roles. David is the more responsible one. He has already enrolled you into school and making sure that there are accommodations in place because of the fact of your condition.”
“Legally he can be there for you. I feel kind of sad that she chose him. But I can’t blame her. But I’ll be your support. If you want to talk about something I’ll be there. David’s schedule can get pretty hectic at times, but if you also want to talk to him just let me know and I’ll let him know,” he smiled sadly. I could tell that he wants me to rely on him. Even if he’s not my legal guardian he wants to help me in anyway he can.
I slowly reached my hand out and patted him on the head. He’s such a child, but he wants to be responsible in many ways. His hair was silky to the touch, but I pushed down the urge to stand there with my fingers running through his hair.
I pulled my hand away and typed away really quickly. I handed it to him when I was finished.
“You don’t have to worry about such things. I’ll mostly call upon you anyway. Just be prepared for what’s to come with this big responsibility. I’m probably going to be a handful.” He read to himself.
“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” He asked and I nodded. I took the phone back and typed away quickly. I handed him my phone and he read it to himself.
“Well I’m going to get ready for bed. I’ll go into the bathroom.” While he read I rummaged through my bag for my pajamas and my little bag that has all my toiletries in it.
“Knock if you’re about to fall over. Be careful,” he said as I walked into the bathroom closing the door behind me.
Daniel's POV
I’m extremely worried about her. I know she’s in the bathroom and all, but I’m worried she might pass out or fall over. She can’t even scream to get our attention if something does happen.
I put my face in my hands and rubbed really hard. It hurt, but I can’t believe I would actually be this concerned about someone. Not only that, she seems to be very perceptive saying I should be prepared for this responsibility.
A knock on the bedroom door pulled me from my thoughts.
“Come in,” I said no more than an indoor voice. David came in with a stack of paperwork in his hands.
“Where’s Jessica?” He asked coming in and putting the paperwork on the desk.
“In the bathroom getting ready for bed. Told her to knock if she was about to faint or something.” Of course David knitted his brows together. He sighed.
“Concerned for her as well?” I asked looking into his face.
“Yeah just concerned for her well being,” his deep voice cracked.
“Join the club I’m sitting here concerned about her like I’m her mother. I swear the moment I found out the girl on the road was Jessica I’ve had this really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Like something bad is coming and I have no idea if I should trust this feeling or just ignore it because maybe I’m just being paranoid,” I said so low that she won’t be able to hear me.
“All you can do is just watch over her and be there for her when she needs you to be,” he said just as low. “I’ll leave her in your hands, got my own s**t to deal with.” He said waving as he left the room. The silence that filled the air just made me tense. I sighed and turned toward the mound of paperwork. This is just my luck.
Jeremy's POV:
After leaving Daniel to watch over Jessica I headed toward my room. It’s on the second floor. Unlike both set of brothers I really have no one I’m particularly close to here. I opened my door to my room. It’s the second one down the wall to my right. The darkness surrounded me.
My parents were what you’d like to call higher up hunters. We call them elites. The only way to get into the elites is to be the best of the best. You take on some really high level jobs. These jobs become our missions and we go and we take care of any demonic activities. Demons are our one enemy. We are what protects the human race from being harmed by these demons.
I’m not going to go into any more detail about this, but my parents had trained hard and became stronger. But that left me all alone. Pressure built upon my shoulders because of who my parents are. They hate the fact that I’m a doctor and I don’t follow in their footsteps. Every time they come around it’s as if I’m always being lectured about this.
One thing for sure is I don’t want to become an elite. I don’t want to be responsible for that kind of thing. I like being a doctor. Helping people in another way other than fighting and killing demons.
I sighed and walked over to my desk. I bent and leaned over onto the desk with my hands flat on the desk.
I want to help Jessica, but what she’s going through may be more than we can handle. More than she can handle alone. She needs to have someone who will understand her. According to Delilah, Jaime should be the one close to her, but Jefferey had mentioned that the girls had a falling out. Plus Lily took Jaime away.
I sighed again. I’m just so pathetic and helpless in a situation like this. I wish I could do more than be this person. Be me who can only just stand back and watch her stumble and fall, as she gets back up and walk on even though her scrapes and bruises show.
Charlie's POV:
Jessica reminded me a little bit of myself. I had lost my sister at a young age. Lanier was always following her big brother around like a little duckling. She absolutely loved me for some reason. She wanted to play with big brother. She wanted to have a tea party with me. And before bed I would always read her a book.
As time passed I got really annoyed with it. She really didn’t want mom or dad. I would go for walks to relieve some of the stress just by getting away from everyone. I was only ten years old and Lanier was eight years old.
I would walk on a dirt road that went for miles next to it. I would walk up and back by it just to look into the water.
One fateful day. It has been raining for days now and the river was higher than it has ever been. I was walking and looking at the raging water. Once caught in that there was no getting out.
The loud noise muffled out the sounds around me. So I didn’t hear Lanier calling and running after me.
The closer she got to me I started to hear her. I turned and looked at her in surprise. How did she find me?
“Charlie come play with me,” She ordered me whining.
“Not today Lanier. I’m sorry, but I have things I need to do today,” I lied, but most of all I just wanted her to go away. This was my time alone. But she had to push it.
“I’m lonely,” she whined again. She was going to throw a fit. I’ve never ever yelled or said anything mean, but I don’t know what came over me.
“LANIER, please just leave me alone,” I yelled at her. The next thing I knew she was crying.
“You don’t h-have t-to be so mean,” she stood there crying. I went to try and go comfort, but she just backed away from me. I didn’t realize what had happened. I tried to get to her. She backed away to far close to the river.
She tripped backwards on a rock. Falling and screaming into the river that became her grave.
“LANIER!” I screamed desperate to get to her. It was just too late. My parents found me by the river calling to Lanier over and over again. I told them what happened. But I believed it to be my fault.
Johnny came a few years later. He tried to comfort me, but he had his own issues to deal with. We became brothers in the end. We trained together and then we fought together. We sparred with each other and still grow stronger together with each passing day. But Her death still effects me to this day.
Johnny's POV:
I loved my parents with all of my heart, but I just couldn’t think about what happened. My father abandoned me after my mother decided to divorce my father. I didn’t know the details at the time, but my mother would always tell me that my father wanted nothing to do with me.
My mother then decided to tell me.
“Johnny, your father wanted to leave me because he didn’t want to have another child. He killed the child inside of me,” her eyes saddened. I felt anger at that and realized I wanted nothing to do with him as long as I lived. I can’t believe what kind of human being would do something like that.
Delilah would tell us everything that had anything to do with Jessica. Her father used her to get to her mom and then when she moved back into her mother's custody her father wanted nothing to do with her. I just couldn’t imagine what she was going through. But seeing her face to face like this today. I just couldn't believe she had to suffer more. David told us before we all went back to our rooms.
The pain she has suffered and now she has to endure. She has to be in a lot of pain. I couldn’t even look her in the eyes, but I wanted to tell her it’s going to be okay. She looked so fragile coming into the house. Reminded me about my past.
For now all we can do is watch and see how she does. It’s pretty much all we can do. It does pain me that we really can’t do much for her. To ease her suffering and her pain.
David's POV:
When we found her on the side of the road the way she was, it pained me to even look at her. I’ve never seen a girl in as much pain as this girl. Why is she in so much pain? What happened that scarred her beyond her own repair?
These questions played around in my mind after dropping the paperwork off to Daniel for him to either read over and sign or read and make detailed descriptions.
We both take on our own tasks. I deal with the council and most of the kids training. Daniel does more of the paperwork and some of these kids training. We made this deal on account that we have to split responsibilities on this part. We both wanted this so children wouldn’t have to suffer under a hunter's family.
My brother and I had to go through it together. It was brutal. After my brother went insane and decided that he was going to choose another side. He tortured and killed our parents in front of us.
I grabbed Daniels hand and ran out of the house as fast as we could. D’Angelo set fire to our home of fifteen years. He laughed and laughed took one look at us and disappeared that night. It’s been 100 years since then.
Daniel and I are truly worried about this girl. I just hope D’Angelo doesn’t decide to come and hang around while she’s here. I don’t know if I could bear to see this girl get caught in between and get hurt.
My heart hurts just thinking about this. We can only watch and wait. I hope being here her pain eases more and more. I hope that she gets her voice back soon.
