PROLOGUE
I opened my eyes and what first greeted me was an old white man looking at me, squinting his eyes. He’s so close I could barely hear anything but his hoarse breathing. “Sh-she’s awake!!” he happily announced while my eyes fluttered at his hot breath. I let out a groan and scowled in disgust while he continuously shouted “She’s awake!” right in front of my face. Why is he so close? Why is he staring at me like that? Why is his breath reeking!? I screamed in return and he stopped shouting. He drew back and a group of people in white coats came and pulled him out. I got up and leaned. Still scowling while observing the faces of the white-coated people, four of them surrounding me. “Ma’am are you okay?” one of them said with a worried expression. “What do you think we should ask?” the guy with glasses said. “Aren’t you the smart one?” the blonde guy pointed at the black girl. “What- why?!” she complained. They stared at each other, the black girl couldn’t protest and she sighed. “Ma’am, what is your name?” she calmly asks. I tried recalling…I couldn’t remember anything. F*ck! My lips kept shut for a while. “She doesn’t remember anything…” another guy said and they all looked at each other and argued quietly. I heard the television, “The missing crystal of the Queen is still missing-” “Crystal…” I blurted out, making the group of white coats look at me. “f-feh…” I weakly murmured. “Fae?” the brunette white-coated girl said. “Y-yeah…” I slowly nod. “That’s a cute name,” the blonde guy smiled. “Is that all you can remember, ma’am?” the black girl asks. I don’t even remember my name, I have just created it now… “Yes…” “At least you can remember one thing about you,” she commented. “What happened? W-why am I here?” “Ma’am Crystal, you’ve been asleep for too long,” “How long?” I said straight. “You might not believe this but…” she ponders. “For how long?” I questioned in a demanding tone. I wanna know because I’m too f*cking confused right now. “Girl, you might not believe this but you’ve been asleep for two decades,” the glasses revealed. My mouth agape, I froze and thought about what to say. My brain cannot process anything to speak and react, but only one thing came to my mind that made my body shiver and disturbed me the most. “I’m a hag?!” The group looked at me in surprise. The two men laughed but the girls were looking at me dumbfounded. Aren’t I right? I aged two f*cking decades!? Right!? “Come on laugh, that was funny as hell,” the blonde giggled and all he received was a glare from the brunette. “Surprisingly no,” the black girl said. “You haven’t aged even though you have been sleeping for almost 3 decades. To be specific, it’s 26 years!” “Yeah girl, you gotta teach us how to do that,” the brunette commented. “R-really!? So I’m not a hag?!” “Yes, but your hospital fees are high,” the glasses said. “Oh sh*t…” “Yeah f*ck capitalism,” he said and they all agreed. “You might have some money in your bag though,” the black girl said. “I still have my things?” I happily asked. “Really?” Who knows? Maybe I was a millionaire and I had plenty of money. Or maybe I’m broke…there’s a high chance that I’m broke because nobody came looking for me… “Did anyone come looking for me?” “My mom has been a nurse here for 30 years and nobody came looking for you, I’m afraid,” the black girl replied. “There is a possibility that they’re dead or in another country and just thought that you left them,” the blonde explained. “But there is a high chance that they’re in another country because you look Latin,” “Yeah you’re like the latina that everyone wants to date!” the brunette said. “What do you-” I paused. “...Can you hand me a mirror or anything that I can see in my reflection?” The blonde guy brought out a rectangle thing and focused it on me. I heard a sound and he showed me my face on a screen. “W-what is that?” I pointed at what he was holding. “...A-and that girl looks good,” What I saw was a tan girl with long black hair looking almost like a Brazilian model but with brown eyes. Her body was slender and I could see her collarbones, she was very thin and her face was slim and oval. Her lips are thick but not too thick. Her eyes are sharp and she has long lashes. Her nose is perfect and…she’s perfect. “S-she’s pretty!” I said while smiling. “That’s you,” he said. “D*mn, that beauty sleep gave you too much beauty,” the black girl commented. “H-holy sh*t…” I was astonished at what I looked like, but after that, I was distracted by the rectangle thing that the blonde guy was holding. “What’s that you’re holding?” “Oh this?” he looked at it. “It's a phone.” “You’ve missed a lot of events due to your beauty sleep,” the black girl said. “You have so much to learn when you get outside.” “Yes she’s right, but you’re lucky since you missed some of the bad events that happened in the past two decades,” the blonde guy added. “But for now you have to stay here for a while until you are well.” “How long do I need to stay?” “Well, for a month, maybe some weeks or days since you look fine, but we have to look at your vital signs first,” she reminded the others to get the equipment. The two left and the only ones who stayed there are the black girl and the blonde guy. While they check up on me, I observe my surroundings. I saw old people eating, chattering with their families, sleeping, and the guy that scared me to death earlier chatting with another old lady. Makes me wonder what happened to me. How did I even end up here? Why did I, not age even though I slept for two decades… Or maybe I have been here since I was a baby and nobody has come to pick me up. But…what those white coat groups said earlier or those doctors… And…what the hell did I miss?! But before that, where am I? “Where the hell am I?” I blurted out while the black girl checked my blood pressure. “You’re in a hospital in Brooklyn, New York, Miss.” I kept myself quiet for a moment. How the hell did I end up in Brooklyn? “What is it? You remember anything?” she raised her brows. It took me seconds to respond. “I can’t remember anything but my guts tell me that I’m not supposed to be here…” She widened her eyes and continued getting my blood pressure. “Seems like you had a wild, wild experience before you got into a coma,” she said with an emphasis on the second wild. My eyes shifted to the television. It’s clearer and the colors are better than what my guts remember. I can see details on the reporter’s face…I can see his dark eyebags and his decreasing hairline. A lot of things really change… I felt sad that I missed out on the fun events that happened in the past two decades but somehow I feel happy because I missed out on the bad happenings. I could’ve died in that bad event but here I am… “You’re good,” she set the equipment aside and checked my pulse rate. “Where are my things?” I asked. Maybe I could have some things there that connect with what happened to me before I end up in a coma. “Aurora is on her way to get your stuff,” she replied. ‘But I haven’t asked yet…right?” “She’s excited over you waking up and the stuff that you have that hasn’t been opened up in decades,” The blonde guy sighed. “Don’t tell our boss,” The brunette girl called the two of them while carrying a red purse. She handed the purse to me and started fidgeting her fingers. “She’s damn excited…” the black girl whispered. “Let’s continue the check-up later, Kaliah. I’m interested in what’s in that bag too,” the blonde guy said, and the black girl named Kaliah moved back. It’s a leather handbag with a zipper, no designs or anything, just pure red. Whatever’s inside this bag is huge, making the bag hard to open. Its zipper looks like it’s about to crumble due to its rust. One touch will break it. I held the zipper and pulled it. I knew it, it broke before I could even open the whole thing. My index finger got into the open area of the zipper and cut it in the middle. I gasped when I saw what the bag was carrying inside of it. “T-That’s a sh*tload of money!” Kaliah exclaimed.
