Just then Jason walked in “Evening Mother.” She turned her head towards him. A wide smile appears on her face. “Oh, Jason, what a wonderful surprise.” she got up and pulled him into an embrace. “Hey bro, how are you.” He looked at Lucas and nodded. “Luc.” His mother beamed with happiness, “Have something to eat.”

He gave her an apologetic look and kissed her on the cheek. Even though the food smelled and looked delicious, he had to decline. “Sorry Mother, I can't, I have important business to speak to Father about.” She touched his arm, “he doesn't want to…” she tried to explain, but he interrupted her, “he is expecting me. “ He turned to look at Mark. “ Mark, can you and Luc, follow me.” They nodded and got up. “Jason what…” Logan clears his throat. “Alpha is waiting, why are you still here.”

Logan knocked and went inside. Eric was on the phone and showed them to sit. Lucas turned towards Jason, “So bro, what's up?” He was about to answer when their father spoke, "Jason, what's so urgent that it couldn't wait.” Eric leaned back in his chair, looking at Jason. “Father, it's about the ultimate power. By now, we've all heard that the prophecy is about to be fulfilled.” They all agreed.

“ what are we going to do about it, cause you know the advantage for the one who gets to control ultimate power.” “Yeah, yeah, I know, but we have bigger issues now.” Jason frowned, “Father, what’s more important than finding the ultimate power.” He threw his hands in the air. “Jason watched your mouth! We have vampires that can mask their scent. Which is a huge issue because we would have no warning if they attacked us.”

Both Jason and Lucas were speechless, “No f*****g way, how is that even possible.”

Logan got up, "it's true I have seen it and Mark had too.” He was nodding, “But there's some human that can sense them.” Jason’s mouth opens, but nothing comes out. “That’s impossible Father.” He sat up in his chair. “Lucas, we saw it with our own eyes, it's not hearsay, I was just as shocked. She is human, believe me, I checked." “Listen up boys, we are already keeping an eye on her. We were investigating the ultimate power thing and to our luck, she happened to attend the same school.”

Lucas felt Rex stirring inside of him, ‘Rex, have you finally forgiven me?’ He was grinning, but he was met with silence. s**t, Rex, don’t you think I’ve suffered enough.’ he let out a heavy sigh. “Lucas!” He was pulled out of his thoughts. His eyes met his father’s and there was a murder's look flashing in them. He scratched the back of his neck. “Sorry, what did I miss?” Eric turned and stared out the window. ”Those bloodsucking bastards could be lurking around on our pack lands watching us and we …” there was an awkward silence in the room.

“So did you manage to ask the human how she was doing it?” Jason looked at Logan. “Not yet, I have to be careful because the others will get the wrong ideas, and we might get attacked for a worthless human.” Mark rubbed his hand over his face. “s**t, this sucks; We are werewolves, for crying out loud.” They all watch Mark having a meltdown. “I say we snatched that human and use force on her to tell us.” Lucas was feeling pain in his chest when Mark said those words. ‘What the hell…” he holds his hand on his chest.” are you ok, Lucas?” He shakes his head, “so what’s our next step.”

“The three of you will go with Logan to Alpine High. He will brief you on the assignment.” “Yes Alpha.” They answered in unison. “You are dismissed, and please don’t discuss this with anyone.” Eric was watching Lucas the entire time, ‘Well Rico, what do you think?’ ‘Rex is reacting every time the human is mentioned.’ Eric nods, ‘For now we have to keep quiet and warn him too.’ ‘Just hope he didn’t shoot his mouth off to that fake mate of his’ Eric sighed, ‘goddess, please give me a break.’ He held his aching head.
