Few weeks after Mia's birthday the classes has started. She's now on 10th grade at North Caroline High School but unlike the other kids, she's not that excited to be back at all.
Old students group themselves to share their summer and vacation experiences with their friends while new students tried to fit in to the new community.
Mia went out of the cab when it stopped at the school gate. Other students would be greeted by their friends when they arrive but her? well, it's not like it's hard for her to make friends, it's just that they don't like her but Mia's fine with it, she doesn't like arrogant girls either.
Lany, she's the only friend of Mia. She met her at New Hope Primary School where they became classmates but Lany studied at a different school in the City when they graduated from Primary School. They rarely talk since Lany became busy with her life in the City, unlike her who's left in the Province.
"Hey, Mia! watch out!" a voice called her and she turned to look who's calling her but it's too late. Theo, the jerk guy from the higher grade level pushed her to the side to make way for his skateboard ride.
Mia came face to face on the ground. She felt a slight pain on her right elbow that supported her upper body.
Students who witnessed the scene didn't even budge to help her up but let out their obvious chuckles and whispers.
"You jerk! What's wrong with you?!" she yelled as she stand up and check the bruise on her right elbow.
"I warned you!" He yelled back without turning to check on her. Well he's an arrogant dumbass, it's given.
He just added more fuel to the flame of her anger towards him.
"You could've just stop!" but Theo just waved his hand not affected of Mia's yells.
"Asshole." she whispered.
She can't wait to graduate in this school, everybody seems to not care with loner students. They are all alike, arrogant self-centered students, well, most of them because some students just keep their mouth shut to avoid being bullied.
Mia rolled her eyes when she noticed that the other students are still whispering about her.
She began to walk to look for her classroom on the 10th grade building, it won't be that hard for her to get there because there's not much of students here unlike in the big schools at the cities.
"So, I see that there's not much of a student here in your class. I believe you'll be able to know each other because I'll have you in groups by next week for the upcoming group activities. I want all of you to work on your group and contribute your ideas. It's nice meeting you all, Class B. See you tomorrow for our proper class." Mr. Brown bid his goodbye when he finished his time for Class B.
A common introduction was made in his time. They were familiar and unfamiliar faces so it has to be done for everyone to know who is who.
Just a few seconds after Mr. Brown left the classroom, the next teacher went in. Everybody stood up and greeted the new comer.
"Good morning, Ma'am."
"Good morning, Class B. I am Ms. Alice Gomez and I will be your Physical Education instructor. Please settle down for I have a few things to discuss with you about our subject." Ms. Gomez waited until everyone sat down.
While the instructor is busy discussing about the rules and regulations for her class, Mia's eyes wander around the classroom to look for potential groupmates. She's still thinking about it since she knew it'll be hard for her to make them join their groups.
"Excuse me, Miss? Are you with us?" she snap back to the present when the strict instructor called her attention.
"Please stand up, what's your name?" Ms. Gomez asked her with a blank face and serious eyes piercing on her.
Mia became nervous as she watched her instructor's face. First day and she got called, surely this teacher will remember her.
"M-my name is Mia Carson, Maam." she bowed and kept her eyes on the floor, scared to look at her teacher's face. She's scary.
The instructor studied her, eyeing her head to toe.
"Ms. Carson, it's seems like you're not paying attention to what I say. If you listened to me you would know that it's included on my class rules, pay attention." Ms. Gomez sighed seeing Mia not lifting her head.
She thought that Mia must be thinking that she'll punish her and she's right, Mia is readying herself for whatever consequences she'll face and felt embarrassed for being scolded.
But before Ms. Gomez say anything about punishments a knock on the door diverted everyone's gaze in the room.
"Yes?" Ms. Gomez asked when she opened the door and let everyone in the class see who's disturbing them. On the other hand, Mia felt relief for the sudden disturbance and sighed heavily.
"Good morning, Maam. I'm sorry to interrupt you but Mr. Brown told me that this class have vacant chairs, do you mind if we borrow those? We're short of chairs because there are late enrollees for the 12th grade who suddenly came this morning to join the class." A guy who's obviously older than them explained the reason of the sudden interruption.
He's with two other guys that looks like from the same grade level as him.
"Alright, there are eight vacant chairs at the back, you can get those but leave some, late enrollees might arrive this week." Ms. Gomez stepped aside for the older students to step inside.
Mia remained standing as she don't want to heighten the teacher's frustration.
She chose her seat at the back of the class and there's a vacant chair beside her, the guy who talked to Ms. Gomez went near her to get the chair next to her.
"Is it okey if I take this?" she snapped back when he suddenly ask her.
Turning her head to see him waiting for her response, Mia gave a nod.
"I don't want to sit next to anybody either. Please take that." she replied and earned a nod from the guy.
Other older students had chairs with them so they gave their thanks and bid good bye to them and returned to their own class on the next building.
Ms. Gomez let Mia slip from the consequence and went back to settling down on her chair.
"I will let this pass now but I don't want this to happen next time. This applies to all of you in Class B. You come to school to listen and to learn not to daydream." That's her final statement before she left for the her next class.
Mia felt more embarrassed because everybody thought she's daydreaming. She just want the ground to open and eat her up.
The cafeteria is not full yet when she came. Mia is grateful because many tables are not occupied yet and she found a spot on the corner where everybody might not notice her.
After getting herself some food she walked towards the table on the corner.
Mia settled down on the chair never minding the growing noises of the other students. She peeked behind her to see the growing numbers of the students inside the cafeteria. Most of them are in groups and is laughing with each other, maybe they had a great first day but Mia had the worst.
Seeing them with their friends moved her a bit. If only Lany is here, she wouldn't be lonely anymore but few years more and she will graduate from this school, maybe she'll find a new place with nicer people.
If only there are other schools in this town, I won't wait longer to have a friend.
