CHAPTER THREE: Unavailable

1243 Words
Not long after Mia started gobbling up her food, more students came into the cafeteria and the tables are all occupied. Ignoring the noises, she focused on eating her food. "Wow! that looks delicious, your mom must be a great cook." a voice from the table next to her made her stop on eating. "Yeah! that is why I don't buy lunch from the cafeteria since then, she always prepare my lunch and I am really happy for it." she heard gasps from behind. Mia found herself listening to what the girls behind her are talking about. "I remember my father is no greater cook than my mother but sometimes he's the one who prepares my lunch if he has the time in the morning back in primary school days. He's so thoughtful up until now but he's doing it the other way now since he has no time for cooking." another girl from the same group shared her own experience. While listening to their wonderful family moments, Mia felt sad. Nana Cora is the only one who prepares lunch for her to bring to school before. She doesn't remember her mom prepare her lunch box then, it's just Cora. "My mom is thoughtful too, you know how much I want to visit my grandpa's place on summer so she and dad took a leave from their work for a week to take a visit." How awful, Mia doesn't even remember visiting on her grandparent's home while they're still alive. Her parents must've forgot on letting the old ones to see their granddaughter once in a while. As if they care because they obviously don't but maybe they would with their new family. She's getting more depressed upon hearing those happy stories. Too bad she did not experienced all of it, she wanted to cry but not in this crowded place. Why is she having this pity-party at school cafeteria either? Not wanting to hear more from those girls, she focused back on eating her lunch. She should have brought her headphones so she won't be heartbroken this way. "Excuse me, you're not done yet? Because we want to use this table. Go away." a new group of girls that looks familiar went to her table holding their food trays. Mia quickly cleaned her mess, picked her things up and went away to return the food tray. The girls who went to her earlier are from the 11th grade and they're one of the mean girl groups in this school. Mia can't believe that it works in this not so big school but many students are mean so it is possible there will be someone who plays "Queen Bee". Many times the past few years, she would caught girls catfighting because of their not so reasonable arguments most especially because of stupid guys who named themselves as hearthrobs. That includes 'Theo the Jerk' who pushed Mia. And speaking of the devil, the devil showed himself in front of her just when Mia closed the door of the cafeteria. Theo smirked when he noticed the bruise on her right elbow. It made her angry because he's not even sorry for pushing her and also putting the blame on her. "Jerk." she whispered while glaring at him. He just ignored her and pushed her lightly to get away from the door. "You haven't learned your lesson for getting in my way." he went inside after saying that. Mia got more frustrated for that. Theo really thinks he's some VIP in this school but he is just definitely a total jerk. If she'll make a list of the students who she hates so much for their unpleasant attitude, it'll be long list but Theo secured his spot on the top ranks. Although many students here appear to be mean and dislike her, seeing new faces who do not felt comfortable for the people here gives her hope. Maybe someone like Lany will befriend her, it's going to be so lonely for her to get through high school without someone to keep her company. Mia decided to walk around before heading back to her classroom. Her old classroom is in the other building and her favorite spot is far from her new classroom so she decided to look for a new spot near the 10th grade building. Walking pass the group of students who talks about beauty products and makeup they are using, she thought of the school admin who prohibits the use of these inside the school premises. It only proved that many students in this school are not following the school rules and regulations. She already witnessed different acts of disobedience from these students that she can't count in her own fingers the number of times they did it. "Maybe that's why they got friends? Because they don't like to follow the rules and all of them likes it? Idiots." now that she thought of that it strengthen her belief about 'birds of the same feather flocks together.' Rule Breakers. She found a spot under a big tree between the 10th grade building and the senior's building near the kiosks. It's shade is just right to protect herself from the heat of the sun, the ground is perfectly carpeted with grass where she can sit and lay down. After a few minutes of staying there and checked if students come to stay near the area, she headed back to her classroom to catch up the next class. The next classes are just the same and she listened carefully to spot anybody who can be her groupmates and avoid being scolded. They finished early since it's just the first day and there's not much to do, they were dismissed early and as she walked outside she noticed the other students waiting for their parents to fetch them. She's jealous. It's always like this since primary school, she envied the children who has their parents waiting for them on the school gate. Her parents doesn't fetch her even before, how come she did not experience things like this? Both of her parents has their own car and yet they don't have time to fetch her. Aren't they worried if I get kidn*pped by a taxi driver or got robbed by a criminal? Do they trust me so much that they thought that I am totally independent at an early age? Or maybe they just don't care if I got kidn*pped, robbed, or lost. Because after all these years, love and care from my own parents feels foreign, I am not familiar because I barely feel it and it's like I am a freed bird that the owner doesn't want to be back anymore. Mia sighed and looked at the sky above her with sad thoughts. The sky is forming dark clouds that delivers a message about the coming rain. Students ran to hail a cab and hop inside their parents' car while she stood there watching them. It started to drizzle, she thinks if she will call her mom or dad to ask for a ride home will one of them come to get her? She only needs one response and the heavy feeling in her heart will be lifted. Getting her phone from her pocket, she's starting to get wet. Called her mom but said that her car's engine had a problem. Called her dad but he's still on a business meeting. Always unavailable for me.
